So, according to Nikki, slavery wasn't race based. The enslaved people were treated as equals. Something is truly wrong with that woman.
Slaves weren't even considered to be legally human when the Declaration was written.

Interestingly, as a black child growing up in the Great State of Mississippi; my parents never looked at me and said America is “not” a racist country as well. However; my parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles had enough conversations with me and the rest of the kids in our family about how to navigate the racist society in which we lived. However, this ideal contrasts with a provision in the U.S. Constitution at its inception. Article I, Section 2, known as the "Three-Fifths Compromise," stipulated that for congressional representation, individuals not considered free would be counted as three-fifths of a free individual. This clause effectively increased the political power of slaveholding states, revealing a contradiction in the early values and legal frameworks of the United States. It was racist from the beggining even the author of "All men are created equal" owned slaves. This is how you know politicians are liars.
That included white slaves as well. Also black free persons were counted the same as everyone else. That is a bad example. It is at most de facto racism, it is certainly not explicit as many seem to think it is. (As if there were no enslaved whites and all blacks were enslaved.) Granted there weren't white slaves by the time the US was a thing but there were still a few around.

I will say it's much easier to say what she did rather than go over Manifest Destiny, Colonization and townships/territories prior to becoming recognized as states, Trail of Tears, the 1000s of treaties broken by the government with First Americans, Straight up stealing half of Mexico from Mexico. Lady, the first five years of my life, I grew up on a cotton plantation. My mom,aunt, and uncles were born and raised on this plantation. My grandparents were share croppers on this plantation. I am 57 andvI remember seeing my grandmother and others picking cotton. There were days that I went with her. She would drag me down each row. These people will never admit the truth of what happened and what continues to happen. When I was in the first grade my white teachers would tell me every day I would never be anything because I was black. To Nikki Haley the person that changed her name so that it would sound Caucasian stop lying.

Scott had won his case (unpaid wages) in lower court, but Supreme Court ruled that he had no right to sue anybody because he was black. And that Constitution did not mention anything about people who had African origins, instead the forefathers who had drafted it specifically wanted to protect the ownership of property, and slaves were property. Slaves had no right to make, be a party or an actor in any kind of contracts or procedures.
Forget slavery, well, not literally, but what about segregation? What about signs that said "no blacks"? That woman...I can't say what I really want to say.

America is not s racist country but there's racism in the country just as it is in other parts of yhe world too.
Understanding that slaves weren't considered people at all so that interpretation of the constitution doesn't apply. If the intent, as she called it, was that good at heart, things like the 3/5th compromise wouldn't have been necessary at all. We can't pretend away the fact that the foundation of this country was not only racist but sexist and many other things. Much progress has been made but not enough to say that the institutions in which the country was founded still don't exist in many different forms
Yup. It's also not our job to defeat racism in the US in the late 1700's, nor in the 1860's. Those people (and the Confederacy) are all long dead and it was what it was.
Our job is to identify and remove impacts of racism in our country today, in our lifetimes. That is up to us, now.

Ok Nikki, but what about the hundreds of thousands of people, the generations, who were born and lived and died in slavery without ever experiencing those ideals of liberty for "all men"? They had no knowledge of some optimistic future. They just knew that their country did not consider them fully human. And that went on their whole lives, and their parents' lives, and their childrens' lives.
