Birding Thailand 2 REVISED (HORNBILLS, Owlets, Elephants & MORE)

  • Birding Thailand 2 REVISED. Second installment of our 4 video series from our October 2020 trip to Thailand.
    "Cover Bird"(and also appearing as the Title Bird) is the Great Hornbill (03:17). It was photographed foraging in a fig tree at Kaeng Krachan National Park. The horn or casque is hollow. Males will butt casques in flight. While it may not be the longest hornbill, Great Hornbills are the heaviest.
    Featured birds and animals:
    HORNBILLS-Oriental Pied (01:57) and Great (03:17)
    OWLETS-Small pygmy owls-Asian Barred (03:01) Spotted (11:20) and Collared (14:42). Smaller and pudgier owls. Hands down they are the winners in a staring contest!
    White-handed GIBBON--13:12) is a smaller ape NOT a monkey.
    MACAQUE monkeys-(20:10) were grooming each other.
    Asian ELEPHANTS- (16:41) Dust bathing family group.
    REPTILES-Chinese Water Dragon (11:59) and Asian Water Monitor (15:22). The Barred Flying Dragon is showing off his camouflage technique! (18:12)
    Chinese Blue Flycatcher is GORGEOUS! (11:43) Such a beautiful reflection too.
    Note the striking coloration of the White-crested Laughingthrush (08:27).
    KINGFISHERS-Black capped (05:46) and White-throated (8:05).
    Two TROGONS -Red-headed (00:09) and Orange-breasted (:06:01) were standouts too!
    Also featuring 3 species of Bulbuls (Grey-eyed, Black-headed and Ashy).
    Included in Thailand 2-Red-breasted Parakeet (12:49), woodpeckers and leafbirds. The Silver Pheasant (15:54) definitely knows that he's all that.
    There's also an osprey, eagles, Green-billed Malkoha, Blue-eared Barbet, Bulbuls, a Sumatran Serow (15:30) and much more!
    Locations visited on this video included: ; Kaeng Krachan National Park, Khao Yai National Park, Chiang Mai and other places in between.
