What's most awesome is that Tony shut down his entire operation to allow his whole crew the opportunity of experiencing mining history. That's pretty cool.

He went straight to it and said “there is the old mine shaft”, so of course he knew it was there. It’s always the producers/directors that ham the storyline up.
The wood from that shaft itself is with some serious cash money to cabinet and furniture makers both for its age and it's history provenance with a signed claim documented from him. I've seen items like those made from shipwreck wood go for tens of thousands of dollars when I lived in the Florida Keys depending on what kind of wood it was and other factors. Even regular Driftwood gets a darn better price that normal wood.
i doubt it bro, it's an old mineshaft in the yukon. it's frozen and thawed out every year, covered with water and dried out. i wouldn't want to sit on it or set a table on it LUL. it would be nice to see them preserve the history, but it would be a herculean effort to excavate that site archaeologically and incredibly dangerous. if it was closer to a road and such it may well have gotten the archaeological treatment, but in its current state it's just an abandoned mineshaft.
Oh ronald, when you find an abandoned gold mine, help me mine all the gold out of it, and then ill help you salvage all the rotted wood. you keep the wood and ill keep the gold

There's probably so much gold that we have not mined. It's gotta be basically in any sufficiently large enough hill that was formed long enough ago to have had cosmic glitter fly onto it. It's only made from the supernova explosions, or leftover from asteroids which collected it from supernovae, so it's likely in large amounts everywhere at a certain depth in the Earth, so long as it doesn't result in digging below the ocean floor, because there likely isn't gold under there, just magma.
What I don't get is that when modern minder hit permafrost they are screwed, but somehow the old timers just tunnels straight through it with hand tools ? So strange haha
I think it´s more of a problem if it pays off or not. Of course you could just smelt the permafrost today too, but it seems that it´s not worth the hastle.
