- Victor Feldman was one of Britain's greatest ever jazz men. He played with Miles Davis, Cannonball Adderley and Steely Dan to name but a few. Here he is in 1965 playing "swing On A Star"

Mind-blowing. So much to love here. I found VF from the Rhodes solo on Steely Dan's "Black Cow". The seeming economy of notes but so elegant and swings so so hard. But this? Wow. All three players are superb here. The dynamics are alive, the genius arrangement that seems to wave through you. Bass is perfect. That drum tone, just gorgeous. If someone asked me what jazz trio was really great, this performance would be my pick. Love it.
Feldman is one of the greatest piano players of jazz history.
So you'd compare this to Garner, Peterson, Tatum, Brubeck, Evans!!!
You must be kidding because Brubeck is a complete nothing; Garner is more pianist than improviser; Tatum is a very important musician harmonically but in jazz what is really significant is to be a great soloist like Earl Hines; Peterson is also very interesting but he is not the kind of musician to be followed; Evans is a great artist indeed.
As a long time musician and , for the last 12 years, a radio broadcaster in Australia I am saddened by your complete lack of appreciation of so many great jazz musos. I was born and brought up in UK and heard Feldman, Hayes, Shearing, Thompson and so many others. Feldman was an excellent second tier muso who played competent rather acoustic style piano, limited vibraphone and good drums. Miles was comfortable with him but Vic never hit the top rank in USA.. Your contradictory comments such as :Garner was more pianist than improviser"defies logic! Or that "Peterson is not to be followed"What on earth is that waffle statement? Please don't reply to me any more. If I wish for a discussion I 'd like tit to be with an informed and experienced musician. Maybe, you could avoid internet comments which are factually unfounded, and probably rely on your preference for style!
+JEEP JOCKEY This is quite typical; musicians usually can’t separate the good from the bad. Is it hard for you to understand? Poor thing… Let me explain: “pianist” is someone who just plays, improviser is an artist who creates great solos. You “think” like an amateur (with bad taste).
@@jeepjockey9219 Miles was actually very positive about Feldman's playing, but Feldman didn't want to tour with him because he made a lot of money with session work in LA. That's why Miles had to find someone else and asked Herbie.

I saw the Dan last week at Wembley Arena. Horrible venue but brilliant show. Just discovered Victor Feldman played on Aja, one of my favourite albums.

Actually Miles wasn't his first big Collaboration with a famous musician/band as the video claims. He joined Cannonball's band 3 years before he recorded with Miles.
He played also with Sonny Rollins, Shelly Manne, Wes Montgomery, Chick Corea, Russ Freeman… and many others...
Feldman was a child prodigy. He played with the Miller band in WW2 and was nicknamed Kid Krupa. He went to USA and comfortably played with well known jazz stars but never hit the top rank.
