Yes. You do need CPT for work off campus, and it must be a job in your field of training. Truth is, the process is pretty complicated if it's not internship.

But the mail I got this evening didn't indicate that I have been considered for an assistantship so I am confused. My only hope is on graduate assistantship. Please what would you suggest I do? By conditional admission, it means you didn't meet all their admission requirements. You got admitted because they know you can make up for the deficit when you come

Only if you're applying for an undergrad program. But take note that age is an important factor when it comes to getting a student visa.
