Outer wilds - How To Stop The Time Loop

- So I got a ban and got called a dick from a moderator on r/outerwilds for my "chromosome" comment. Leave it to reddit to take things too far a notch. Hey, anyone asked me if perhaps I lack a chromosome ? Maybe I have the chromosome card, doesn't mean I'm chromosomophobic lol. Not surprised, since despite the good story and gameplay, even the game dialogue and Nomai texts seem like they've been ripped straigh from reddit, writing wise style.
So I've came upon some information, that the loop doesn't start until the Nomai mask is activated. Since getting to the spaceship requires launch codes, and for launch codes, you need to get to the observatory, to leave the observatory, you need to pass the mask, the only real solution was to get the launch codes, and somehow escape the observatory without triggering the mask. All I knew is you can escape in the area with the quantum shard, but i had no idea how, so I had to figure that on my own.
The low poly Timber earth happened when I landed on it with the nomai pod, not my spaceship. I wasn't recording at that time. Anywho, I approached the mask, which was still there, and the game reset everything, and re loaded everything as if I nothing happened, stripping me off the spacesuit at the same time.

I wonder what the computer in the Sun Station would say, because it tells you the time before the sun explodes, but the sun doesn't explode
Late reply, but it simply says 22 minutes and doesn't change this number until the loop is activated.
Can you even get into the sun station with no sand moving?
you could always hotshot it, that is flying to the sun station manually in your ship

Just got my license today. 😎
I got it at the start of the game with pure luck without knowing I glitched the game 😎😎😎
I started on the blue one.
Have had, say, 2 - 3 successful attempts.
the madlad.
I did it too! I landed on the observatory instead of water but I did it! I thought Brittle Hollow was going to collapse when the probe said 1*/* surface structure(I don’t know how to spell ingergty) I visited Giants Deep and even the Quantom moon (I did spell that wrong too.
You did it, you saved the.. entire universe!

To make method #1 more consistent, wait until the attlerock is overhead. You actually jump higher when the attlerock is above you.
Great demonstration of how Outer Wilds uses real-world physics imo
Never noticed that, that's actually so cool
Huge brain
i noticed this when visiting the looper. if you land on the "crust" side of it your ship gets pulled out of it by the sun's attraction and starts orbiting
@@sebastienaguila2107 The looper?
@@hyperx72 the interloper
So you stop time and the universe slowly unravels until your game crashes. Seems legit.
FINALLY I CAN EXPLORE EMBER TWIN AND NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THE SAND!!!
Except on some part you need the sand to be a certain height... Thought it's been 8 months so you probably knew that
I didn't think this was possible. Well done for discovering it!
I'm like your videos man, you should do more!
I wonder if the crashing and low-poly planets has something to do with the game recording every moment of your journey for the initial statue playback. The first one is a lot more detailed than the normal ones.
So technically speaking, everything would be fine if the Nomai would piss off with all of their experiments.
Not even the interloper joins the galaxy and kill them all.
See, this is why we need the space wall. If we didn't allow these illegal aliens into our solar system, the sun would never go supernova in the first place.
@@physical_insanity And the protagonist would be time-immortal as well. Only profits. Damned goats.
Someone didn’t pay attention to the story.
The Nomaï are the only thing giving you enough time to understand what happened, instead of dying for good in 22mn, sooooo... I'd say they're pretty cool
5:00 this guy has predicted the echoes of the eye o.o what a legend
omg! was it there all the time?!
@@iRiVs this is actually the space where one of the bramble seeds' insides physically exist, since it has to get rendered somewhere
That makes me wonder how going loopless affects the Stranger. Does the sail never deploy and the dam never break, therefore preventing all of the strangers from dying?
@@EMLtheViewer I haven’t thought to check whether it starts to leave the solar system but it does stop the dam from breaking, yeah.
@@Persnicut is echoes of the eye actually able to be completed like this?? I never finished it, cus having to find the stranger all over again every however many minutes started to feel really tedious after several loops.
At first I was like "Oh cool, now I can spend more time on the Sun Station before it's gets swallowed by the sun". But then I realized the sand never leaves Ash Twin, meaning I'll never be able to get access to the Sun Station Warp Tower...
Yeah, you're gonna have to do a manual landing ;)
@@MisterPikol Yeah, I gave up after about 20 attempts.
I succeeded lol but there's no flat surface, at least on the warp side I tried to land on. maybe possible on the other. honestly think you'd have better luck trying to pilot the ship inside it.
Maybe if you play on PC you can use some commands to make the sand drain start. Just a guess.
But why would you want to stay there longer?
Edit: I did it and fell into the sun trying to land on the sun station
I feel you lol
What happens when u die?
So the trick with method 1 is to jump when the Attlerock is overhead, because you weigh slightly less from it's gravity
You're serious? The moon alters your gravity there?
@@MisterPikol yes, just like it moves the three balls on the table inside
holy sh*t, How didn't I think of that...
Managed to pull off the quantum launching method today. The trick is to get shot straight up and land on one of the nearby roofs through some strafing. I think positioning on the stumps has something to do with it, like standing right on the centre. I also think that one of the recent updates might have nerfed how violent the effect is, since it only ever gave me gentle _'pushes'_ in comparison to the video examples. It was still enough to get me out of the grove, though.
Now the universe is gonna live forever.
Missing a chromosome pays off
How to stop the time loop: uninstall the game!
Actually it's just work and its legit, no exploit!
(but it's a great game, so don't uninstall it)
Lol
I wish that once you beat the game you could have like an "endless mode" that was basically this... just a way to explore the solar system without the time constrains, taking your time to see the details and stuff like that
I get why it doesn't work that way, since the game has dinamic phisics instead of scripted ones, so if you let it run for long enough planet orbits and other shit get really weird, but it still would be cool
If you let it run for long enough, the Interloper crashes straight into Timber Heart. It's pretty wild to see, I watched someone posting a video of this somewhere on Reddit.
@@FBracht How? personally the interloper just disappears
I've noticed the Tower of Quantum Trials leaves the North Pole of Giant's Deep after a while and just starts acting like every other island, even getting launched into space by the tornados. Other than that it seems pretty normal to me.
@@FBracht It failed to wipe out the Hearthians the first time so it tries again
i have a couple questions
1, what would happen if you die?
and 2, what would your conversations with gabbro be like
The jump method was too hard so I did the quantum launching method and it worked after a few tries. Anyway, I went to the QM, found the tower and put my scout on the door. Went inside, entangled and ended up on the Eye location, checked out my scout and saw somehow it was at the North Pole (??how??), shortly after my game crashed.
Good vid. Did method 2 btw. Don’t be directly on top of the Crystal. Be a bit to the side and try land on the observatory or the method 1 path
"You have recalled the rule of Quantum Launching"
Im guessing the game crashed at the core of giants deep, because it tried to read when the probe was launched. I think it actually checks when the time loop started, since its the same value on every run but the first, and on the first one it starts when you bond with the statue. Since you never did that, it found a null or some other nonsense and crashed. Unfortunately I cant test this theory, since the only other place that time is presented is at ash twins core, and we’re obviously not getting in there without the time loop.
theres another method: using the geyser to blast yourself up to the launch pad, its very precise though
Different title:if the nomai never did the experiment to find the eye of the univearse.
Second method is possible just do a soft launch and land on the roof of the observatory it also took quicker for me
If you fly to the sun station what does the countdown timer say?
FadyFTJ nah, you can fly there normally, but it might help to know some things about orbital rendezvous first
i don’t think you can get there because the warp pad won’t activate
@@haydenbuell7860 you can fly there manually
@@Saidriak
Haa, I had an similar idea but it was for a different goal : leaving the beginning city without the jetpack nor the ship. So you don't need codes. The only way I found is at the waterfall, the top part, there is a rock on the right that can be climbed the same way than in your video. It's pretty complicated, but feasible. The problem is that you can't leave the planet and you have to be careful to not fall from too high or you'd die. (I gotta admit that, while having the jetpack all the time, I never really thought about falling damage, but now that you don't have one, I assure you that you have to calculate each jump for not falling from too high to die) so this was pretty useless, because you're really vulnerable to anything, but it was fun and worth to try.
Possible Method 3 (have yet to try it out) use a geyser to launch onto the ship platform (like in the shipless speedruns) get the suit, go to observatory and retrieve code, then use suit to just fly out of the quantum rock thing (using either method, + even if you mess up method 2 your jetpack saves you)
You'd die of fall dmg
@@liamernst9626 you can do it with the geyser way easier than this
there is a tutorial with a set up to get it every time
@@jesusalc1421 I recently saw a speedrun where they used the geyser, and I guess it somehow works
ugh youtube's compression
I wonder what the timer on the sun station would say if you never started the loop to begin with
"A tale of quantum moons and probes, eternally retold!"
I was gonna do this to beat the game but without the sand exchange the atp wouldn’t become available would it?
Attempt 1. Like 50 jumps.
Attempt 2. Like only 4 jumps now, but....forgot to get the codes.
Attempt 3. Got the codes, suddenly I need like over 200 jumps.
Supposedly the suns gravity and perhaps the moon as well has something to do with it?
What happens if you're inside the interloper when it disappears? Or does it ever melt enough for you to go in?
ooh good question. I wonder if it just pops away with you in it and you are just there right next to the sun haha
It disappears and you are left right next to the sun in open space. I tried it today lol
I wasn't inside the interloper but I attached a probe on it,when the interloper disappeared the probe was just floating at the same place it was attached
I've tried it today: the Interloper disappears, but the game believes that you are still inside of it, so you can't move freely anymore and you begin to spin around like what happens in the movie Gravity, but you can still lauch probes
Got up the rock and flew away in my ship.. one thing is ( DONT DIE ).. you will start out like a new player and have to do EVERTHING all over including launch codes and that damn rock..lol
The nostalgia creep from the Soul Calibur 3 music was REAL as I slowly realized what I was listening to
this is basically what it was like for previous hearhtians/the nomai, kinda cool, except there's no sand exchanged
What if all the stars going supernova was because of you creating a paradox or something by interacting with the statue?
hi! amazing video! ty !! Just one question: Can you complete the DLC content in loopless mode?
Hmm I don't think I ever tried that, might be worth checking out
@@MisterPikolI stopped playing the DLC because of the annoying 3 minutes flying there every 20 minutes OMG just when I was making some progress...
If you take a teleporter off of the ash twin to other planets, what do the other planets teleporter clocks say about the time? If you go to the sun station, how long does it say it has until it is swallowed up by the sun?
that's really interesting and I should try to look it up
Can you skip the launch codes all together by using the zero g cave suit and a geyser to fly up to the ship without going through the elevator?
no, I tried to use the zero g cave suit, but you simply can't exit the caves from there.
You can use the geyser without the suit to bypass the launch codes - it's done in several speedruns though I've never attempted it myself.
I actually don’t think that works anymore because the sand on ash twin never starts falling unless you get your memories yoinked by the statue, so you can’t get the warp core and beat the game
How do you finish the game if the sand stays there?
Could Sonic outrun a supernova?
Top known speed of a supernova: around 40, 000 kps.
Top speed of Sonic T. Hedgehog = speed of sound: 20.583repeater kps (dry air, 20°, lets say our boy is in some kind of space tube)
Given a theoretical speed of sound limit: 2124.3repeater kps.
I think he's fucked.
Really funny description. I lol'd hard at that too.
Great find. I just finished the game and this was in my reco .. Subscribed! :)
I do have one question though. If I follow this method, do the logs get updated? And provided I don't die until I come back to the statue ... do the logs remain there?
I'd love to see an Echoes of the Eye version of this.
What about the time counter before the supernova in the solar station ?
No idea, hard enough to just leave the observatory, and when you do, not die attempting to land the sun station.
So if you wait long enough before starting the loop, you might not have an Interloper in your system anymore (for your first life)? Even if you activate the statue as normal?
once you reach the status, the time "resets" again.
if i die, do i need to repeat this step?
I tried jumping when giants deep and the attlerock was above and it was almost cheese.
Doesnt really matter..i'll probably die while landing and the game will reset anyways
The fact I got it first try by glitching into the quantum crystal and landed outside of the crater but didnt get the codes first😭
and what happens to the launcher?
SOUL CALIBUR!!!! ow. my brain. "I know this song" "what is this song" "It's from a video game" "I've played the video game" "I've played the video game A LOT but not recently" ... ... ... Feels like a rubber band snapped in my brain. ow.
So we have to deal with the game constantly restarting? Ugh thats what made me quit the game in the first place 😫😫
With no secondary research, according to google, sonic can run faster than the speed of light and supernovas can usually only reach around 10% of that
Has anyone figured out what happens at the sunstation?
Maybe its possible to get the suit in the zero G cave to exit the museum once u have the codes
I tried that, couldn't exit the caves with the zero G suit, shaft was too high.
I did strat 2 on the right most looking into the room it flew me onto the laboratory and I escaped
That first song is from Soul Calibur 3?
Maketsu Its from SoulCalibur 2, I know this because I have the game on my Xbox.
@@binkbard Ok, nice. I was wondering which one it was.
What exactly did you do?
You can stop the time loop by messing with the black hole/white hole experiment. You can create a paradox that crashes the universe.
I know, I was the first person on youtube to show this method
Very satisfying. Also loved the soundtrack
3rd method: launch from geyser to the launching pad
What if you go into the zero g cave and get the suit?
you can't leave with the suit
Wait why not

I thought this sounded familair! But I was like 12 I played that game
Sadly not, quite. This is from Soul Calibur

So… you saved the universe. None of the hearthians will die. But solanum will never find her peace, she’ll be stuck on the quantum moon, probably forever. Every other star will still die. And you’ll never truly know the secrets of the Nomai.
But the sun dies anyway doesn't it. The loop isn't what causes the sun to explode
in my method, the sun doesn't end up dying. story wise yes, that's what happens ultimately, but what I do, is I never trigger that event.
@@MisterPikol Ah okay I get it. Even though it doesn't make a lot of sense considering the time loop isn't started when the statue opens it's eyes, it's started when the player awakes
But there has to be a trigger (game design wise) somewhere, because exploring timber hearth, talking to everyone and suddenly getting interrupted by the exploding sun would be kinda weird
ah music from soul caliber 2, nice.
that soul calibur 2 music!
How to u do the 2 method?
dunno, it hasn't been successful for me yet. But some people pulled it off
4:59 Echoes of the Eye trailer lol
Can you explain more the method one?
When I rendered the video, I didn't think that segment would be sped up so much that you wouldn't be able what I do. Basically you need to use momentum and jump on that piece of wood till you land at at the higher spot.
Too hard. I used cheat engine.
vgtrainers.com/load/categories/editors_scripts/outer_wilds_table_for_cheat_engine_v1_0_4_epic_store_flowoeb/31-1-0-5251
I downloaded the file, then put it in root folder. Load table in CE. Create F2 shortcut. Restart Outer Wilds. Press F2 at start to get suit.
I wonder how the Sun Station lines monitoring the Ash Twin project signal, or when the Time the station would crash into the sun.
Of course, since the sand isn’t shifting in the twins, you have to reach the station the OTHER way...without the ability to quickly try again...
I actually managed to do method 2
You could technically beat the game in this state
How? The twins never exchange sand so how would you get to the ATP
So I tried option number two and got it right away. Number one seemed impossible. Dead serious. I have a video for proof on Xbox. It launched me into the observatory roof and now I'm golden lmao.
