In celebration of World Poetry Day, here's a video deliberately optimized to be seen by as few people as possible.
"Perfect games don't exist, good criticism shouldn't make you pissed, and different tastes can happily coexist."
I love this quote. This was extremely well done. I usually give up on rhymes around the second verse. Good work man!
I'm a year late but yes that is such a perfect quote
Except Portal.
@Beau Israel definitely, been using Flixzone} for since november myself =)

He only wants fans to watch this, because the internet is terrible and Zelda fanboys are worse.
ACE Tactical He also doesn't have Zelda in the title, and the thumbnail is a tree. Ha ha!
How so? Why is everyone afraid of the nintendo fanboy boogeyman? I've seen plenty of critiques and complaints without any of them getting killed.
Category: News and Politics
Should've been automobiles.
MisterHeroman Jim Sterling gave the game a 7/10 and his website got DDOSED. I can understand why you would be afraid of some Zelda fanatics here.
I enjoyed this video, and the critique was fair.
But I have one complaint, which is a side effect where
I read all the comments, expecting some form of rhyme
But I leave feeling disappointed, at least most of the time.
Eric Martin II Oh yeah? Crime.
you can’t even touch me
Yikes
I realise I'm late, and for that I apologise
but even after a year, there's something I must scrutinise
"the comments don't rhyme", I hear you complain,
but the comments are uniform, it's really quite plain
as I read your comment, I can't help but frown
as the comments rhyme down, and down, and down
I know you'll probably never read this comment, but this may be the most gratifying video I've ever watched. Your critique of this game is completely on point, and I wholeheartedly agree with each of your points (it almost scares me how much I agree with you). I love your channel and careful approach to journalism. You're fair and honest about your opinions, you thoroughly cover interesting topics, and most of all, you keep your videos focused, entirely avoiding endlessly repeating the same point for 10-20 minutes (kinda hyperbolic, but it's the biggest pet peeve I have with a great deal of video essays and reviews). I really appreciate your high standards. Thanks.
How can one state an unpopular opinion without appearing contrarian? Rhymes, apparently.
I don't feel like his opinion is unpopular at all. I mean he obviously loves the game, he just has a few choice critics about legitimate things, and preferences. honestly you're gonna be seeing a lot of it on the internet, I'd try and enjoy the more level headed ones like this before 4chan tries to dox your wii u or something
Oh, I definitely appreciated the nuanced review here. Especially the final 60 seconds, where the dude pleaded for a take on the game that wasn't drowning in nostalgia or fanboyism..Ii have felt the same way about Zelda games for decades.
"Haha, he's not gonna rhyme through the whole video"
*rhymes through whole fucking video*
Your criticisms didn't bother me. In fact, I appreciate your honesty. After all, my mother always said that was the best policy.
(Read's Title) Well, I hope that Bunnyhop's invested in bulletproof windows.
Drew Kopp He might have constructed adamantium windows.
I love how you intentionally chose the most boring thumbnail possible.
He doesn't want people to see the video clearly. Kind of an oxymoron for a RUclipsr.
For some reason the anti-clickbaitness made me click
+Wulbulbul Lubbubwublub Reverse psychology? Is this the new RUclips meta?
Yes.
His tongue is still attached to his head.
I'm still able to hear the words it spoke.
Mission accomplished.
If you don't understand that, google holds the answers why he did what he did.
(All the negative comments are people complaining about the rhyming)George: It's working! It's working!
unfortunately I'm too much of an arsehole not to post a 5 paragraph montrosity in reply to the video.
"115 hours over 2 weeks" see, i think thats where the issue is. If you eventually get sick of shrines, or seeds, or grinding out equipment upgrades, im not exactly sure why you keep on doing it. I feel like this game is suited towards doing things as you play, rather fulfilling than specific objectives as fast and efficient as possible, which allows the interesting quests and secrets to refresh you quite often. You said it yourself, you feel as if it is suited for a shorter game, but i felt as if the tight polish of the older format was swapped for one that allows you the freedom to do what you find fun, and stop if you find a certain aspect draining. Most of your points i agree with in one sense or another, i just feel as if either your tastes or your playstyle soured them more than most people
If you're a completionist, and you like aspects of the game you're playing, then you'll most likely grind it out despite it's flaws.
This is a year old now, but exactly... I'm still playing this game and am still finding things I haven't seen after 280ish hours of hanging out with Link. There's always something else to do if you feel burned out of shrine quests, side quests, the main quest, beating up Lynels, Maldugas, Guardians, seeing what crazy things you can do with your runes, playing with glitches, etc. The criticism was funny and understandable in certain aspects, but it just seems extremely exaggerated.
@@Tyan0A don't forget, he's not condemning the game, he's just explaining his gripes that prevent it from being G.O.A.T.
Personally, I agree that sacrificing story and reusing too many assets kills a game's potential. Even if the gameplay is mechanically satisfying
Daniel Murray
I have 330 hours and never got bored of it. I don’t think it’s more of the fact that he got bored of it after so long, but the fact that he didn’t savor everything he did, only beating it in 150.
Ya see, but when I first got this game I had a lot of free time. I was able to play it a lot, and since I was prioritising side quests, I burned through them faster than any other part of the game. The worst part was, I actually did all the interesting ones first- they were the easiest to find. How could I not?
But once you've done
Buying a house
Terry town
Purah's upgrades
Hyrule compendium
Hestu's Quest (I didn't actually finish this I heard the reward was crap and gave up)
Wait-
I thought this list would be longer?
The rest of the side quests felt so mundane. I burned right through those first few, so all the less important, almost filler side quests just weren't fun anymore. And there were no new items to keep me going. I mean, yeah I loved a small number of the characters I met- Terry, Purah, Hestu, and Paya, but once I had gotten past those parts and hadn't gotten a super substantial reward, I gave up. At that point, I didn't know what to do.
So I legged it to the end of the game and barely played it since.
I found almost all of my fun in Breath of the Wild, by searching about like a newborn child. Just take a stroll and forget about questing, honestly Ganon just keeps on resting.
I think you rhymed the entire video so people would get mad at that instead of your opinion
Fucking modern-day Sherlock here
Toast Master Smart.
True.. the rhyming was cringe
Sounds legit to me
Overall I liked the rhyming. But yeah, I think he purposely did it cuz he knew the consequences and at the end he would say "Its just my opinion so dont hate on me".
Thank you for this review, I enjoyed it oodles
Now answer me this where are the fucking NOODLES

This video is WAAAAY ahead of its time. Respect.
what does that mean?
???
Yes, now that a year has passed, video game critique videos in the form of 10 minute poetry slam essays are EVERYWHERE. This video was just ahead of its time.
It took me a few months for the initial hype to wear off on BotW. Coming back to this video over a year later I find myself not only agreeing with most of George's points, but also having a handful of my own he doesn't mention.
I still think BotW is wonderful and a step in the right direction for open world games. Yet, retrospective has made me realize there's so many places it could improve and some blatantly obvious improvements make me think the devs were either very tight on time or SOMEHOW managed to overlook simple issues.
The problem was that the Zelda team had no experience with open world games and yet decided to make the game bigger than Skyrim. They created an open world and then found out how long it took to fill it with good content. On top of that they had to struggle with the Wii U's hardware and they had to port it to the Switch.
Hubblebub Lumbubwub That gives good context. But that doesn’t mean the criticism is off the table.
Repetitiveness, horrible story, great map, boring movement, bad bosses, no dungeons ( arguably the best part of Zelda before) great game with some seriously overlooked problems
Gabe Dresen I can see why you think the bosses and dungeons are bad, but how is the movement boring? For me, moving around the map was so fun. I could climb a giant mountain then paraglide off to a nearby shrine or stable. Then I could jump on my horse and ride to a nearby river.
Lime 27 I think maybe the problem is climbing? Trying to interpret his reasoning. But tbh I think the worse part about movement is the rain that hinders you from climbing, everything else is pretty enjoyable.
If BotW is the Ocarina of this generation, the next must be on par with Majora's Mask to serve full penetration. Personally I really enjoyed Breath of the Wild, but I can see how others would find it to be quite mild.
BubbleButt TV I hope they do make a game like Majoras Mask again. Maybe ape more witcher 3 than skyrim next time, that would be cool
Yeah I hope so too. So far gameplay wise BotW has been phenomenal and storywise I think its not the best in the series but its good. In an interview, I saw that they focused the game to be more like skyrim and they think Western audience isnt fond of heavy narrative story telling(which is quite doubtful). Im sometimes off by how detached Nintendo remains with the world.
BubbleButt TV I can totally understand where you're coming from. I personally haven't liked a Zelda game since Majora's Mask. I hope we get something dark like it sometime soon.
Ricardo Contreras twilight princess is way darker than mm tho
Ocarina of time is the single most overrated game of all time. It cannot hold up to today's standards
A super level and fair analysis of a beloved game that isn't inflammatory or hyperbolic? This is the internet George, that's not allowed here.
Great script btw.
The rhymes were kind of half assed, as good as the intentions were.
The game is getting alot of hate (from sony fanboys and people that doesn't agree with the 10/10 it is getting). It's not a "universal loved game" as he made it look.
No, but it is universally acclaimed by critics. Much like all Zelda games, it got a few extra points that it didn't really deserve because it reminds everyone of their childhood and when gaming was innocent.
That is the argument at least. I can't speak for myself as I have yet to play it.
Dylan Smith I hate it when you use the 'oh, it's just nostalgia' argument. The only thing that I like about Zelda games were their story, but I hated their gameplay. This is the first Zelda game that I've actually enjoyed the gameplay of, and it's one of my favorite games. Since I didn't enjoy playing Zelda games I didn't play them all that much. As a result, I cannot be nostalgic, yet I still think that it's one of the best games ever made. If I can think that it's one of the best games ever made without being nostalgic so can other people.
I remember seeing a video a couple weeks ago that talked about why Zelda games usually get higher scores than they should, and it was a really good video. It talked about how the Zelda formula worked really well with reviewers who have to review a game after playing it for about a week. Since the Zelda formula worked so well with the way reviewers play video games it makes them enjoy it more, so they'll give it more points than normal. He then talked about how BoTW doesn't have that formula, so the usual bonus points that a game would get for being a Zelda game wouldn't be there.
Even then, how can you be nostalgic from playing a game that's unlike almost every single Zelda game? You could claim that it's like the first one, but it's not as the first one didn't allow you to pick up any enemy's weapon, do any environmental damage, it didn't have weather, it didn't have the runes, it didn't have a paraglider, it wasn't in 3D, it didn't have fleshed out NPCs, it didn't have food, it didn't have weapon durability, and the list of things that it didn't have that BotW has just goes on and on. I doubt that many people had nostalgia while playing this, as there isn't much to be nostalgic about, other than the characters.
Except of course that I didn't use the nostalgia argument, I simply explained it. I even said that I can't speak one way or the other because, unlike most gamers, I reserve judgement until I have actually played a game.
Good points though.
nice tags.

Would love to see a follow-up to this video now that the sequel is out and it’s just 90% the same game with all the same problems, and it’s the same overwhelmingly positive critical reception with barely any dissent.
The description explains why he's rhyming if anyone happens to catch this comment.
TenaciousTinkerer It's like poetry, it rhymes.
Well obviously. And it was world poetry day.
Jar Jar is the key to all of this.
It's so dense, every single image has so many things going on.
What the hell guys. I loved this video, the game's critique is well explained and George put quite the effort into making everything rhyme. It's fun.
i loved his thoughts (even if i didnt quite agree with everything he said) but i abhored the rhyme.
That was a great video! I loved the heck out of BOTW but I completely agree with the points you mentioned. However, I feel as though we played the game wrong, at least from Nintendo's point of view. I, too, binged the game, and I feel that Nintendo doesn't ever test that experience. They constantly put reminders in games to stop playing. Nintendo (and most likely the reviewers) probably missed these issues by only playing in short segments. I do hope they start expecting players to spend hours on end playing and work around that.
BTW, RUclips recommended this video to me somehow. Felt like sharing after reading the description.
Reviewers certainly don't play in short segments. They are in a rush to complete the review before the deadline.
Oh my god, this was amazing! Not only was the writing pretty clever, buy I've thought everything you mentioned at least once during my gameplay.
>rhyming "points" with "viewpoints"
Is it bad that this bothers me much more than anything else in this video
no
Nice greentext on youtube you professional homosexual, is it the new popular trend at ebaums world?
+Mocky Oh fuck off with that shit, it's fun to use and practical for quoting things.
"it's fun to use and practical for quoting things"
you're thinking of quotation marks m8.
go back to 8chan.
It's pretty common to do this kind of rhymes in English, it's a shitty language for poetry.
I love how you actually committed to the fucking rhyming.
_Oh George, this review was just right,_
_I’m definitely reading this at my poetry night._
I'm only half way through, and these rhymes are great. I've never seen a RUclipsr who does this. new sub.
Breath of the Wild is a nine point five. But that extra half point is full of collecting bee hives and a grotesque amount of dragon parts. The last twenty hours is spent mainly looking at charts.
Funny seeing you here woolie watcher
Charts? Do detail that further Plague.
Is it true that you're working on an hour long animation?
I think he's referring to upgrading your armour to completion, which I'm doing and yeah, it's long! But what rpg doesn't end up feeling long when you're doing the superfluous activities.
Didn't expect so much positivity from you Plague. Are you ok? Are you eating well? Is the fence painted?
I think all these complaints are irrefutable as long as you're intellectually honest, the only variable is whether they bother you enough to prevent you from enjoying the game or not.
The loading times on the Switch version aren't as bad as the Wii U version thanks to the flash storage medium, but the fade in/out durations are hardcoded and cannot be escaped no matter where you play.
It's definitely a very commendable first attempt at a (truly) open world Zelda game, I hope they learn from their obvious mistakes and deliver much more in the inevitable sequel.
you try way too hard to look smart
Imo this is a game you start playing again from time to time.
I can see grinding it get boring, but I played it over a whole year which was really fun.
Dang, this was a well made video. Keep up the great work! Hope more people see your channel!
Your review was quite tame, despite the trouble you went through to present your issues with the game. I'd say that Breath of the Wild is babied much too heavily by critics and fans. You made great points and I really hope you don't get backlash for what has to be the most tame review in history.
I'd have tried to rhyme in this comment, but that's what everyone else is doing.
I love how you rhymed your first line, then went 'fuck it' and just wrote a standardized constructive comment instead.
The funny thing is that even thou the review is watched mainly by his fans there are still a lot of top comments with angry fans trying to justify why BotW > Witcher 3.
"Your review"
This is not a review.
Almost nobody that likes BOTW tries to compare BOTW to the Witcher 3, the only ones doing that are people that are trying to hate on BOTW. Which then starts an argument about which is better by both. They are 2 different games and not only that, they are 2 year apart and I think there is space on the market for 2 amazing games.
Кирил Желязков
From what I played it's better than Witcher 3
I think people think it's one of the best games not because it's lacking in flaws, but because the positives far, far outweight the negatives, at least for them - and personally I think the same too.
I agree. The game has flaws, but most of the time I see them as little nitpicks. After all, like George said, no game is entirely perfect
Agreed.
You still see what it lacks and hope for the future, as enjoyed what you were given any way. Can't bite the hand that just fed you (or something).
Nailed it.
Even more, criticisms for even excellent games are important. I think if nothing else, BotW is a gigantic step in the right direction and it got more right that anyone could have reasonably expected of something so ambitious. It's only right that fans give feedback to make sure the next Zelda is even better.
Oh yeah, I definitely agree. I do think the story could be better and I'm not a huge fan of the way the sidequests were handled, but nearly every problem people have with the game comes down to their own expectations they set up for the game and/or their play style. Me, for example, I didn't really see the lack of payoff for each little journey as a problem, since I had a lot of fun doing everything I did and generally speaking I did think each little journey had a good amount of payoff, but a large part of that came down to the way I viewed the game and each little thing I was doing (where I had the perspective I think the devs were going for, of each and every thing you do in the game isn't necessary and is just you doing what you think you need to do before defeating Ganon), but from the way George was playing and thinking about the game probably made that experience different for him.
Wow you actually did the whole thing in rhyme, props for going through with it, this video was simply sublime.
Great video, surprised most people didn’t feel this way. And the rhymes were great too nice to see some creativity
It's one of my favorite games I've ever played, but I'm not blind to the flaws either. I'm glad you're helping to point them out to people.
Call me a liar, but I thought your rhymes were fire.
Call me a liar, but I thought your rhymes were on fire.
Or
Call me a liar, but I thought your rhymes were straight fire.
FTFY.
The reason it sounds better is because in your rhyme, the syllables go 4,7, while in mine, it goes 4, 8.
Solrex the Sun King damn you ruined the train should’ve kept it going. now its lame and simply boring
Titanium Mobile Gaming sorry, but number of syllables is kinda important.
This. This video is necessary.
I'm the 3rd in my string of friends to actually put my hands to playing the game, and I deliberately beat it first among us because I didn't want this video to become my experience.
I watched my first friend slowly shift his experience from "explore" to "explore EVERYTHING". Admittedly, he's still having a blast doing it, but I quickly realized I would go insane if I spent all my time in-game worrying about trying to collect or research every little trinket and facet of the game. I don't want to 100% this game.
I watched my second friend try to focus on completing the story (and memories by extension) because that's what he likes to focus on. By the end, we were both pretty underwhelmed. It makes sense to have what story exists be optional because, well, it is by default. But what IS there is so short-lived and quickly-paced (except for Zelda screen-time and the Zora's, which I still could have used more of just because I liked them), that practically any world-building with actual impact is over before it even starts. Yes, environments and communities speak volumes in this game which is more the focus, but it would have been nice to have a more cohesive narrative to support it.
So I, being third, decided I would focus on some head-cannon role-playing and only focus on what I thought my Link would care about. And I had a blast! Did a little exploring along the way of following some basic plot, got about low-mid tier strength, reclaimed one divine beast, and killed Ganon. It was fun. It was MY journey.
I think that's where the game is "supposed" to build its strength for everyone: play the story that you want to, then finish it when you are ready. The biggest flaw I can see with the game, ironically, is that its sheer length of extra content almost dilutes that purpose by default. It wants you to get lost in its amazingly fun world and find your own entertainment value, but even if you find something you like to do, something that sparks a little magic in you, you'll probably be a little sick of it by the end if you don't cut if off early. The game is just that big of a time sink if you go all-in.
Still, I'd rather have it with too much content versus too little. I'm incredibly impressed with this game, and hope future installments can refine its style even more.
Memories is what intrigued me the most while starting the game but I'm in the same boat as you and your second friend. What could have been great involvement story and world-building amounted to 12-not-so-great cutscenes (not to mention the really awkward repetitive scene prior to Link remembering it), the 12 scenes just seemed disconnected and offered very little story. They're all unmemorable and I don't recall liking any of them. Even the Champion memories in DLC 2 felt weird to me.

You can't just rhyme "off" with "off."
Cedstick or point with point
If you think that's off
Try putting it off
Go somehwere a bit off
Do something on or off
Or you will off yourself.
He can rhyme off with off,
If you don't agree, you're welcome to fuck off.
I respect your experimentation, but it's hard to overcome automatically anticipating the next word in the rhyme scheme. Makes it hard to focus on your points.
True, and hopefully if he continues these rhyme reviews he will develop a style and be able to twist the verses better instead of sounding like he's reading a poem he was forced to write for school. I enjoyed it though.
Agreed
Derek N wanted to say the same. Rhyming was cool, but distracting
What a horrible night to be cursed,
when your points are missed because you rehearsed.
+Derek N This. Was about to post the same thing. When we speak to others there's a reason we don't do it in rhymes, it's harder to focus on what is being said while anticipating the next rhyme.

well, you are absolutely not allowed to complain about the skippable cutscenes because they are well, skippable. shrine starting and ending cutscenes are skippable.
also, although everyone hates load times, theres really not much we can do about it. hardware just isn't advancing as fast as software is. it's easy to make a new algorithm for program optimization but not so easy to make electrons move faster in the circuit board (ok, its not exactly easy to come up with better or new algorithms but it's much easier than trying to bend physics, you get the point).
My problem with the skipping cutscenes is at the end of each shrine, you have to wait for the box to shatter, and the first text box appears. And then, ONLY THEN, can you skip...
And even then sometimes the fade to black, load time, fade back is feels like you saved maybe... 2-3 seconds at most skipping the cutscene.
Holy shit, how did this comment go over all the heads in here?
Chill guys, it’s quote from Sequilitis.
It’s a joke, okay...sheeeesh
I actually don't think the enemy variety is too bad; when you consider that, because there's different types of lizalfos, moblins, and bokoblins who hold different types of weapons or even have different abilities (in the case of lizalfos), each fight creates a bit of a different experience. I think the real problem is that the humanoid enemies are the only ones that matter -- keese are nerfed, chuchus are meaningless, octoroks are minor nuisances at worst, and bears and wolves simply aren't the least bit intimidating after a single encounter. So, it FEELS like all you're playing against are lizalfos, moblins, and bokoblins with the occasional lynel or guardian thrown in.
It all comes down to the fact that BotW has rather poor difficulty scaling. The hardest variant of slime does not compare to a humanoid with a half-decent weapon, and without great fairy upgrades, humanoid combat feels incredibly fatal. If they gave the other monsters a little more presence, that would probably make the combat feel more varied.
Hey, I played through the whole game and loved it and I think you bring up fair points. I also agree with much of it, especially regarding the lack of enemy variety. Well thought out critique! I disagree with the the "dungeons beeing too short" thing though, about 100 extra mini dungeons do add up. Thanks for the thoughts, first well structured critique I found on the game.
This review was amazing!
I really enjoy Breath of the Wild and its easily ONE of my favorite Zelda games. But the points you make are the exact same negative points I have for the game.
When I found out about the Shrine system I was really concerned about the lack of visual Variety they have. In the end the many unique puzzles made up for this, but its still sad that every shrine (and dungeon) looks basically the same. Considering previous dungeons, which all had their own themes and music, for me this is a downgrade.
Also the Sidequest can feel like Grind work sometimes, and that's not something I like either, they lack the kind of uniqueness previous Zelda sidequests had ( Although I loove the unique charakter and npc designs in this game, they bring me back to Windwaker. So creative).
All in all the things I like most about this game are the Unique things like Puzzles, Armor, special weapons, Towns and NPC. These were always the strength of Zelda games imo..
Also the rhymes were great. I really don't get all the hate .. :/
For how vast the game is, there are still maaaany little details to be enjoyed. Paya's interactions were lovely, and even though the dialogue was short, I still fell in love with her. But my favorite NPC has to be Kass! Not only is he helpful, but also hit me on an emotional level.
The game may be lacking in a loooot of parts, but I still love what it did right.
Dai 大 why the character for big?
Severussnake Because of the name, mate. Same thing
Dai 大 ah! I see, I thought it was Chinese, in which the pinyin is 'Da' whereas I'm assuming this is Japanese, and the kanji is 'Dai'?

I can't stop hearing rhymes everywhere. You rhymed me to the brink of despair.
Hey George, I was playing Hearthstone while this video played. Your rhyming script is really pleasant to listen, it's very relaxing while still full of information. xD I think it actually helped to understand the content better while I couldn't keep my eyes on the tv.
I myself am utterly amazed, good constructive critisism should be praised!
This review i find helpful and enlightening, as game design can really be frightening.
And before someone might write mean doodles, remember that George presented us with noodles...
I cant believe you rhymed THE WHOLE VID!!! How long did it take to write this? Lol
Probably not very long considering how easy it is to write in rhymed verse, especially when you're not worrying about a set structure, like you'd see in sonnets or limericks. I'd wager it took him about 20 minutes, more or less, of actually sitting down and compiling any thoughts, notes, or reflections he had on the game.
If you want an even more skillful example of this (with a set structure like Mad Hattress alluded to): www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/916-Wolfenstein
Very much a classic.
Archangelm127 i just wanted to post that
I loved the game and do agree with you for the most part. The only thing I disagreed with was your first point, that exploring becomes tedious after a while. Cause it was my favourite thing about the whole game! I love exploring and I think they did it wonderfully. That's also the reason I didn't have trouble finding the ingredients for my armour enhancements. I always had like 200+ of what I needed anyway 😅
Thank you thank you thank you. So much to the point. I couldn't agree more with you, you managed to put all my problems with this game so perfectly into words. Subed.
Hey, I really liked that you tried something new with this review.
Keep being you and making great content.
This guy has an opinion, in 2017, this is hate speech
he is a guy, everything he says is hate speech and sexist, and he is probably white too.
OPINIONS ARE TRIGGERING! :-p
circlejerk.jpg
everyone has a opinion. their isn't a single living person that doesn't...
I think there are more people having problems with the rhymes instead of his opinions on BotW
Captured my thoughts exactly. I do feel like the issue with the shrine quests is partly an extension of the breakable weapon system though. If you got something that didn't break after 10 minutes of gameplay and actually felt unique, you would actually feel compelled to do all the shrines. As it stands, they become stagnant and boring over time.
You can keep the breaking weapons system, but you would need some sort of progression. Perhaps unlock different sheikah slate powers once you hit certain milestones of shrines, for example.
RPG with no exp points? I've been waiting so long for a game like this!!
To be fair loading times in shrines aren't that bad when pretty much everything else is already loaded.
Houses, shops, you name it, I'm sure whoever managed to code this was generously promoted.
Aonuma was happy and Miyamoto too, now we have to wait, until Breath of the Wild 2 :(
If Ocarina of Time is anything to go by
I believe that next time expectations will be incredibly high
It's not really the loading times that bothers me. It is the mini cut-scenes they play when you activate, enter, and complete a shrine. After the first 3 I've mashed X every single time. I KNOW THIS IS CREATING A TELEPORT. I KNOW I'M GOING DOWN AN ELEVATOR. I KNOW YOU ARE GIVING ME A ORB.
The loading only bothers me because 1/4 times I am leaving a Shrine I want to head to a statue to spend my orbs. They should give the options when leaving: "Return to Surface" or "Open Map" so we can teleport wherever we want rather than load to the surface, then open map and load again after a teleport.
I agree, people love to make this multiplicative point about loading times in long games, but thats only because the resulting number is large due to the length of the game. Much better to think about the ratio between load times and gameplay than simply total load time.
agressivejello Yeah, I brought this up today and came to the conclusion that in average during my BOTW sessions which usually last 2-3 hours I come across 1-3 shrines, wasting 3 minutes in loading times in a 3 hour session isn't that big a deal.
brilliant video refreshingly honest and I loved the rhymes :)
Only after the Zelda trailer clip did I realise you were rhyming, and then it just got easier and easier to see. Well done.
Great video George! A lot of these gripes are the sames ones I've had throughout the game
your rhyming made it hard to focus on what you're saying maybe that's just me
maybe that's the point lolololololol
Joe Dough probs
I gotta agree with George here, the rhymes made it very easy to follow what he said.
+TheNastyBAGL
You're right.
It's you.
Take me, for example -- I can't even understand English, but had no problems understanding his rhymes.
I literally don't know what I'm typing right now. It's all like gibberish to me. My fingers just type type type.
Who knows what I'm typing here. Is it even English? Beats me.
Hey Bunnyhop, if it makes you feel any better, I liked your rhyming 👍
There was some serious effort put into the script.
When I was on revali's dungeon, I flew out the window to skip to the other side
4:35 fun fact i found out while watching a speedrun: for some reason the load time here is shorter if you dont mash skip but instead wait until the camera in the cutscene pans out a bit.
good vid
Holy fuck, this review is written in verse.
Woah woah woah buddy, no need to curse!
Let's not be hasty, this review could've been much worse
well to be fair, him making rhymes did help me get even more immersed.
George Weedman is a fucking sick rapper.
Kudos for rhyming the whole time XD It was nice to hear another perspective on the game since though good, it can have things to improve upon for next time.
I played Horizon Zero Dawn and only stopped because it was dawn. I haven't played Breath of the Wild and I don't own a Switch, but I think you should consider a switch.
I can only rhyme a word with the same exact word, but like what you like. Alligators.
ı didnt mind the rhymes. we love you, George.
my boy bunnyhop dropping his fire mixtape
This is an eye opening video, and also, i love the rhymes. Keep it going bro
Good points, especially the one comparing the time waiting in shrines compared to the the time in the four main dungeons, but those things never really bothered me. I enjoyed the combat and game play to much to really notice that.
I was honestly expecting a Nier Automata video.
hardly anybody heard about Nier
Rafał Sobczyk r/rule34 did 👀
Mirlo NieR is superior to both Horizon/Zelda. Feel like no one's taking about it.
+theDiReW0lf
Agreed, and as someone who despises open world games and fetch side quests, NieR Automata managed to make both of those not suck in a unique way, while also being a great evolution in gameplay to the original NieR.
I don't like Nier as much as I wanted to, the open world is dull, too many fetch quests and other annoying shit prevent me from having fun 100% all the time which is a shame because the game is good.
I can't believe I didn't realize he was rhyming for the first half of the vid.
Seriously though, it gave the vid a great flow. It can be shown, because I hadn't known that for the first half.
No videos here sucks to suck
Well done! I really enjoyed the entire video from the creative format to the actual opinion piece I was thoroughly entertained and I agree with all your points on BoTW. I like the game but still haven't finished it as the grind had started to wear on me.
The Anju and Kafei quest.. I'm off to play the Majora's Mask remake. There's a little girl that needs to be saved from cow abducting aliens.
Be warned if you playing the 3ds remake they did something stupid to the boses in swsmp and stone temple. Plus swimming fast is more of a chore now. Not well optomised
@@Vanyel_K was totally gonna buy Majoracs Mask 3DS until I found out what they changed. No thanks. I'll stick to the N64 version. Big no for me was the Zora swimming which was one of the best parts of the game.
@@Vanyel_K They also broke the Deku Link spin into water bounce tech
I was pretty happy with Grezzo's remake of Ocarina (not perfect, but acceptable), but they really dropped the ball with Majora
Damn that’s one of the worst remakes ever bro
@@GreenEyedDazzler don't think I would say that...but it's kinda a weird remake in a way it improves stuff while also making things worse
So, sequel? 😁
Botw would be a lot better if it had alligators. Refrigerators.
and some more jabronis
Loved the rhymes! And good points all around. I feel you had to streach a little to make the lyrics fit but it made it so much more interesting and fresh in the sea of reviews on youtube
You sir, are a genius. Thank you for that writing!
You just expressed all of my negative feelings toward Breath of the Wild in rhyme. I'm impressed.
I think the game is awesome but certainly not flawless:
-terrible voice acting
-no zoom in/out with the scope
-a slight delay with trying to make Link move
-dungeons are a little short and aesthetically the same
-no more stabbing or vertical sword slices
It's a dope game, but 10/10? Naw.
Well, some people think Nioh is a 10/10 (a game I love) and I very much disagree. Arguing about numbers is pointless when literally everybody is saying this is a great game. Even those that gave it a 7.
I think the fact everybody likes/love this game should be indication that Nintendo did something extremely right here.
10/10 should mean one of two things:
1) the game is perfect and flawless and impossible to improve (lol)
2) it's your favorite game of all time, i.e better than 100% of all other games you have played (fair)
Not being able to use the stab with the Master Sword makes me fail to see why it's the "Master" Sword. Many enemies in the game would benefit from being able to attack in all 3 directions like Keese or the legs of guardians.
And are you playing on Wii U or Switch? Because I can't speak for any other players but it sure ain't a lie as far as my 70 hours are concerned.
The best acting in the game is meh. Zelda and Impa and Mephia are horrible.
Oh and there's no excuse for the lack of zooming considering the telescope from WW back in 2003 had it...
Your critiques are all worth considering. Most of them (outside of the map size) I agree with. Obviously though this game still offers so much good. I wish I understood better your positions on all the good it did and see how much you value you the good versus the bad
I'm gonna have to watch this twice, once so my brain can soak up the rhymes and again so I can actually soak up what you're saying.
Like you said yourself, most of your issues are massively compounded by binging the game. I think the main criticism that holds the most weight is the enemy variety - why are there no Iron Knuckles? Stalfos and Stalmasters instead of just undead versions of existing enemies? Zelda has such a huge stable of enemies, it's weird there's such a small variety.
The "checklists" are a personal thing, though I do agree about the Champion's Tunic - it requires the most tedious items to acquire, and yet... it doesn't become the strongest armor piece. That's absurd.
As for destination stagnation, I think you're missing a lot. Shrines and Korok seeds aren't all there is to find. There are world bosses, the freaking dragons (Naydra has a really exciting discovery moment that leads into a wild and unexpected boss fight in the world, I loved that), and finding strange locations that are about more than shrines - hidden stashes of treasure, collections of rare stones to mine hidden away in alcoves, and really varied locations with different challenges on the journey, from Akkala Citadel and its stable of flying Guardians, to Eventide Island and its shipwrecked insanity, to a hidden temple full of stationary Guardians at the end of a winding, massive canyon - yes, a lot of this leads to shrines and Korok seeds, but you're also having battles against different foes, solving puzzles in the world, figuring out different ways to traverse the world itself, and diving into the nature of the world itself and the reason why different areas exist. I loved getting a sense of the world, from Akkala Citadel and the story of Hyrule's final stand there, to Hateno Village and its story of how it was one of the only places to survive Ganon's attack, with Hateno Fort serving as a grim reminder of the cost of defending it.
Tarrey Town is a wonderful payoff in itself that doesn't involve a Shrine or Korok, and I do wish there was more of that - I mostly ignored side quests, focusing on travelling through the world, and not getting too caught up in the Shrine destination - especially when, aside from copied textures and music, they're almost all offering completely unique challenges (and I guess I'm weird for enjoying the Tests of Strength? I find combat fun and I'm always glad to get Guardian weapons and materials).
But when sometimes you're working through one of four unique massive labyrinths, sometimes solving the riddles of the Lost Woods, and other times finding Shrines in so many different ways, I guess I think the "destination stagnation" comes from two places: one is binging. Play that much of Breath of the Wild that fast, and you're going to get sick of the Shrines, despite their unique puzzles. But there also seems to be a lack of joy from the journey itself, a sense of ignoring what brought you to those shrines - once again, I expect, primarily a symptom of binging the game. But it also comes to personal taste, and for me, travelling the world, finding world bosses, navigating through sandstorms, freeing a giant dragon from the Malice corrupting it, navigating gargantuan labyrinths, or fighting a Lynel in the middle of a ruined Coliseum, there are so many exciting stories and experiences I get from the game that 1) I'm not doing Shrines too frequently, and 2) I don't get sick of the Shrines because I'm both excited about what I'm going to find there (once again, I'm a weird one who likes the Tests of Strength) and I get super jazzed by the journey to get there. When I find a Shrine, that itself feels like an accomplishment, and the fact that every bit of "busywork" the game throws at me provides a tangible reward to make Link stronger makes it worth it in the end to me.
Though I will agree in one sense - the journey was always the most exciting thing about Breath of the Wild.
Champion's Tunic IS the strongest "armor" piece.
And I agree with everything you said, as well as enjoying the Test of Strength.. even though my first one was, without me knowing at the time, a Major Test (which frustrated me a bit). Only Shrine I left for later.
I guess what I meant was, in terms of numbers, yeah, it's the strongest, but you don't get really any interesting bonuses (unless seeing the numbers of enemy health is a "bonus") and it doesn't have a full set to go with (which would have been awesome). So for the time it takes to buff it up, just for numbers, and not too much higher than the highest after it (only 4 defense points higher), it's far too much work for too little reward.
XD yeah it was interesting coming to understand which tests of strength I could do at the beginning - I think my first was a Major as well and I was very confused why it was so difficult.
Dai 大 A fully upgraded Champion's Tunic has the same defense as the fully upgraded Hylian Armor and Ancient Armor chestpieces iirc
The Champion's Tunic has a slew of Bonus Effects that aren't made readily apparent. Such as showing enemy HP and letting you see enemy positions behind walls. That might be part of the reason it's so expensive to upgrade. Also while I hardly have every armor in the game. The Champion's Tunic has remained the strongest armor in my inventory. With Ancient Armor being a close second.
Your criticisms are fairly made, but I still think it's one of the best games in this decade.
Many people may not like the rhymes but i think its awesome how long you kept up the joke
I know i cant rhyme that much
Props to you :)
I understand now why you did the video the way you did it.
*You're cunning George. Now I love this video.*
RUclips 2017: no way
RUclips 2018: not yet buddy
RUclips 2019: now
Shitty meme is shit.
yeah man
Hehehe
Your heresy is noted, the reckoning will come. (ominous music fade out)
That was great and you make great points and I understand how you feel because I have over 160 hour and now I never want to touch it again but as you know great content gets subscribers
I was expecting to be angry at the end of this video, but you did this very well. You made it clear that this is just your preferences and opinions, and everything was a good point. Great video 👍
different tiers of shrines (lesser, medium and greater) each varying in length, complexity and the longer ones featuring combat - in turn less shrines - each exposing bits and pieces of shiekah lore.
that would have made the shrines much more fun for everyone, I presume
Took me long enough to realize he was rhyming.
Itd be cool if gannondorf just rode around with a posse of shadow skeletons hunting you, and you have to become a stealth parkour master until you find the master sword
To count the loading screens in that timer seems kind of unfair, but this is still a very well put together video, smooch
After watching this video every comment feels like a rhyme. Maybe I'm just reading it at the wrong time.
I liked the Rhymes, I've never seen a review like this before. People are being too harsh, the rhyming is clearly a one off.
wow, that rhyme game was awesome! No wonder this channels started to blossom
