IPhone 5 Won't Charge or Turn On. How to Fix

- If your iPhone just shows a battery icon with a red strip on the left and won't take a charge, you may need to warm up the battery to "jump-start" it. This video shows how. BTW, before you do this, try the simpler fix of holding the power button and home button for a really long time (over a minute) in order to reset the device. And if that doesn't work, try toggling the ring/silent button up and down twice, then holding the power and home button for at least 30 seconds. But if these simple button presses don't work to wake up the phone, then try this little trick with a hair dryer - it may save you some grief and get your iPhone back up and running.
Note: remove any protective case before warming up the phone and do keep the charging cable plugged in while you warm up the phone.
After doing this trick, we've been able to restore relatively normal operation to the iPhone 5, but the battery continued to degrade over time. Eventually we replaced the battery with a new one and got about another year of life out of it before the phone wore out.

You sir are a genius, even iTunes could not restore my 5s I had error code 4005 and I tried this baring in mind my phone would not turn on at all or charge so I got out the hairdryer give the back a blast and the front then plugged it into Mac iTunes recognised my device and my iPhone turned on happy days now to replace my smashed screen 👍👍👍
It worked!!!!😆 To anyone reading comments to see if this really works yes you should try this! Ended up doing this twice (2min each) and gave up coz the screen didn't turn on, At least at first, but I left it charging to get something and surprised when I see it open!!! Thanks to this video!!!

No. Using a microwave for this would be a very bad idea. Some use a space heater but a hair dryer is best as you can keep it from getting overly warm. It won't take more than a couple of minutes of warming to get the apple logo back on if you're experiencing the same issue that I had, and that most have reported success with. The usual symptom is the battery icon appears with a thin red sliver and the phone will not charge, even after hours plugged in. Warming up the battery usually gets it to start accepting a charge. Eventually your battery will need to be replaced (I replaced this one about a month ago) but this trick got us through several months while the battery was getting weaker (particularly during the cold weather).

Hey Chris do you have any advice or tips for me? So my phone was running slow and i decided to 'erase all data'. When it was rebooting it got stuck on the apple logo and my iTunes wasn't recognizing it. I know that the only way to do something about this was by doing something that involved the home button but mine is broken. After a couple of minutes my phone actually died so i tried again to connect it to iTunes but nothing happened so then I tried it on another laptop and nothing happened again. To make a long story short my phone basically stopped turning on when connected to a power source and I was never able to get it off the apple logo when it was turning on.I forgot to mention that not even the battery sign pops out.

Just tried this on my IPhone 5S that I had charging for an hour like it was suggested on the Apple Website and and like magic it buzzed twice and has been working ever since. It also worked on my iPhone 4

what worked for me i tried this but no luck so i tried for a bit longer time heating the phone 4 mins roughly left on charge the whole time then left phone charging for about 30 mins and it came on itself so thanks

Still not working. Phone worked fine until tonight when it ran down completely (havn't had the chance to charge it for a couple of days). I plugged it in to charge, but even after an hour, it still had the flashing red battery symbol. Now that won't even appear, and the phone is completely dead.

Lithium Ion batteries degrade over time. The hair dryer workaround can extend the usable life a little bit, but eventually you will need to replace the battery. Local shops in NYC charge between $29 and $49 for battery replacements - certainly cheaper than buying a new phone and worthwhile if the phone is otherwise in good shape. If you're adventurous, you can buy a battery replacement kit on Amazon for around $20-$25 for the iPhone 5, 6, 6+ , 6S or iPhone 7. These kits generally come with the tools you need to disassemble and reassemble the phone. But this does require some careful disassembly and reassembly work. Wow.... I'm just in awe right now.... My Iphone wasn't turning on all morning and I put my hair dryer on max heat and applied it for no joke 30 seconds, turned the phone over and it was already on... This is some voodoo stuff right here xD.

I had the same problem and i found an article before this talking about the hairdryer thing which i thought was absolutely insane like what kind of high you gotta be to think of that but then my phone charged for 3 WHOLE DAYS without stopping and that didn't do jack so i realized okay it's this or buy a new phone and hey if this doesn't work i'm gonna need a new phone anyway, so i googled videos first to double check this wasn't a gag, and then hooked my hairdryer up and blasted that sucker at my phone for like a minute, and when i turned it around, the apple logo was there, to my complete and utter shock. I never would have thought this would actually work but yea. my phone is still kinda shit but its functional shit so cheers
sound, effective means. i was switching my iphone 5 to a new phone and it was dead for 2 days even when plugged in. i didnt have a hair dryer but had a heater. strapped it on with some tape for 1 1/2 minutes on highest power (for the heater) and lo and behold it turned on! im just here to say this does work.

I will be honest. I was not sure if this would work. But, it worked! I had set timer for 2 min for the dryer use but my iPhone turned on in 45 seconds. Thanks a lot!!! I mean it.

Desperate times calls for desperate measures. I went to the Sprint store to have them look at the phone and they were not able to help me. They recommended going to Apple and were pretty convinced that I needed a new battery. I run into your video and said what the hell. Follow the directions to the T. After 2 minutes the screen switched from that dead battery signal to the Apple icon. Home screen popped up and the phone had 73% charge life on it. What?!
I do believe that the battery needs to be replaced. I keep getting reports that the battery will drain really fast when it hits the 40% marker. Either way, Thanks for the advice!

+Anfernee Jones - this is normally a sign of a bad battery, so you'd be best off replacing the battery for a more permanent fix.

Hi Chris, I'm using an Iphone 6 and it has been charging for hours showing the battery charging icon and I tried to hard reboot it with no luck, then I tried what you did on the video with the hairdryer it came on then said Iphone is over heated and I cant use till it cools down, then it went off again to the battery charging icon, please help. Istores are closed at the moment because of the virus going around. I need to troubleshoot till I get it up and running
