    Have you tried using the Intuos pro with a tabletop easel? I find that helps me make elbow and shoulder strokes better. Thanks for the videos.

      yep! feels great to have a pentablet on stand ,im using a cheap aluminum laptop stand - you get a fuller contact with your pen on the tablet surface as it mimics that of a drafting table.

      Could you share which tablet and stand you are using?

    • @thesevenpens

      I have used a stand. Though primarily with the Intuos 4 XL. For that tablet since it is so large, having the tablet at an angle helps me reach the far corners of the active area. The stand is shown at 16:36 in this video: ruclips.net/video/Tv_qX1Z9-wI/видео.html

    So, even Bluetooth 5.0 latency is higher? (I suppose tests included such mouse) And Huion's tablets state 300 RPS (or PPS? is there a difference?)...Isn't it superior?

    • @thesevenpens
      @thesevenpens  11 месяцев назад

      In some of the graphs that rtings.com did with mice click latency I saw sometimes the bluetooth numbers were pretty low, but never equivalent to the wired connection. And the bluetooth numbers always had a very wide distribution. Unfortunately it was not clear if the mice used BT 5.
      As for RPS, among the tablet experts I talk to there is a sense that non-Wacom actual report rates might not might reach the numbers that are specified. Sometime this year, I'd like to test that out by trying OpenTabletDriver with some of my tablets since OTD does show the report rate.

    So I bought a Wacom Intuos Medium and when I draw there is a slight delay it feels like.. The curses is a bit ahead of where I'm drawing.. and despite my screen being 240hz it just feels.. laggy? Is that supposed to be like that then?

      Could you elaborate more on what you see?

    • @codingwithellie

      I see exactly what it looks like with your high latency. It's like that whether I plug it into computer or just use bluetooth.

    Could the pointer lag made by the cintiq actually be caused by the screen? I know screens can have abysmal display lag occasionally

    • @thesevenpens
      @thesevenpens  7 месяцев назад +1

      A great question. Some amount of what we visually see as pointer lag is indeed caused by screen issues (refresh rate, etc). But the vast majority is caused by the tablet (firmware) and tablet driver and to some extend how the operating pen subsystem works. One typical screen issue that does come up is refresh rate, if you set the refresh rate to something like 30Hz it will definitely give the appearance of lot of lag.

    Windows since Win8 has forced DWM V-Sync, so there will always be extra lag and latency on top of all the rest. I only have the Cintiq 13HD and I didn't like it because of the paralax and lag, maybe you can get used to it but having my Intuos 4 and 3 for years and years it's hard to adjust.

      Thanks for this comment. I don't really know much about display tech. Will look learn about and into this. I do eventually want to add an episode about how displays contribute to the effect of lag.

      @@thesevenpens I tested the Cintiq13HD under 3 OS's, XP SP3, Vista 64 and Win7 64, both with Aero enabled and disabled, the lag was present in all. I don't think you can do anything software wise to minimize the input lag on these old Cintiq's. Latency on the OS level will add a few frames because of forced V-Sync. I was really surprised by the lag, it's not like drawing on paper where the response is immediate.

    • @farben_
      @farben_ Год назад +2

      @mariobreskic When you see Cintiq videos and the line is way behind the pen that's not a camera effect, it's how it really is like. Thankfully I got the 13HD for free, I can't believe they're still being listed for 300 bucks, specially when that model has a design flaw on the connector.

    So which pen displays have the highest report rate?

    • @thesevenpens
      @thesevenpens  Год назад

      As of Oct 2023 the most recent professional pen displays from Wacom support 120Hz: Cintiq Pro 27, Cintiq Pro 22, Cintiq Pro 17. I’m not aware of any other pen displays that support that rate.

    • @marcuslewitzki4610
      @marcuslewitzki4610 Год назад

      @@thesevenpens Ok, and with all other considerations this would mean these displays should have the over all lowest "pen lag"?

    • @marcuslewitzki4610
      @marcuslewitzki4610 Год назад +1

      The Cintiq Pro 17 I assume is the cheapest of these and sadly it's just too expensive for me. The two that I've been narrowing it down to, that I can afford are the Wacom Cintiq Pro 16 and the Huion Kamvas Pro 24 and I think those both support 60Hz if I'm not mistaken? The question is which of these I should go with or if there's another display that would be in a similar price range but with better specs.

    • @thesevenpens
      @thesevenpens  Год назад +1

      @@marcuslewitzki4610 Yes those two support 60Hz - I have them actually plugged in and turned on right now.
      I bought the the Cintiq Pro 16 last month and it is a wonderful tablet and in drawing performance is is clearly better than the Huion Pro 24 4K. For my personal preference though, I like drawing on the larger size. But if you are OK with that 16" size, it is an excellent choice.

    • @marcuslewitzki4610
      @marcuslewitzki4610 Год назад +1

      @@thesevenpens Ok, I do think 16" would be sufficient for me. The reason I started looking at the Huion is that a lot of reviews here on RUclips claimed it was basically the same quality as a Wacom of the same size, AND it's cheaper than the Wacom Cintiq Pro 16. So I would be getting a larger size for less money, with basically the same performance as a Wacom. The Cintiq Pro 16 does have multi touch but many people seem to think multi touch is overrated.
      So how much better drawing experience is the Cintiq Pro 16 compared to the Huion Kamvas Pro 24? I mean, since they are both 60Hz...
