I tried this on myself last night. Took me 40 minutes to do a full head. Because of the chunkier sections I'm going to do it again in a few days because it want it brighter but it really worked. I've never been able to use foils and as you use less bleach near the scalp the line of demarcation is nowhere near as harsh, so I don't even need to go in with a root tap! Just want to say thank you, it worked a treat!
Beautiful technique, makes perfect sense. Excellent solution for stage or screen actors who get a role that requires their locks to have a whole and natural look. I love it, thank you.
I used to use the segregated hi light spatula years ago for tints and lightening. I still do but never thought to use just the board like this . Love your education videos , thank you :)
I love your videos your so passionate about hair and education iv done hair for years and I love learning and trying new techniques people don't realise how much work hairdressers do and think we're all ditzy there's so much thought goes into colour and I love how you share your skills with us thankyou
So I just used this technique at home! Worked really well some of my root was bit ginger but I have lots of red in my natural colour nothing a bit of toner won’t fix and it brightened up my existing highlights really well without damage! I used wella blondor with 20vol 🙂
Tamber Riddle I use the wella illumnia range for my root as I have a few greys going on 🙄 I use 20vol with that and I used a 7/0 which complements my natural colour really well 😀
I tried this on myself last night. I’m not a pro and can never get foils close to the root on myself and usually get at least one bleed. This was loads easier! I am slightly too warm at the crown, but there’s no line of demarcation like I get with foil. Soft and blended. Thanks!
Hi James, love your videos. Would you use this technique even on clients with base colour on level 6, or is it better to not to do free hand techniques when their base colour is lower than that level 7? Thanks Pete :)
Hi Pete thank you for your question yes you could do this on somebody with a Base 6,5 or 4 for any base really The only thing that I would say is that at best you are going to get 3 to 4 levels of lift when using 30 volume so it is always worth remembering that if the base is on level 6 best result is probably going to be a nine
I highlight my own hair and use hairpainting with slender brush technique. using this video technique one wd have to sit very very still until it cured in order to avoid blotches i wd think.
It’s quite good technique in all honesty it takes around 35 to 45 mins to apply, One of the things that is important is the layering of the product that I mentioned a small amount and then apply another small amount over the top this really helps to stop it drying out. 👍🏻😁
Great technique video....I have done it on occasion but not entire head. What volume H2O2 and did you increase it at all to the front? Love your vids...thank you for sharing 😎
Wonderful Kate glad you enjoyed this one I prefer 1 to 1.5 for these particular techniques so for instance 30 g of bleach powder to 45 g of peroxide it lifts really nicely and it insures that your project doesn’t travel to other parts of the hair are you don’t want it hope that helps all the best James
I never really recommend putting peoples hair under heat when you’ve got bleach involved it can cause all sorts of problems it does make the hair lift faster but you are playing with fire
Yes this can work on Asian hair but you’re not going to get a huge matter lift you would only want to be looking for a maximum of 3/4 levels lighter than the starting point
Yes I would but I will definitely bear in mind that you’re probably going to get maximum of four levels of left You can get 5 to 6 levels of lift if you cover each section with clingfilm 👍🏻
your videos are the safe space I come to anytime I'm experimenting with my hair... you're a godsend!

so beautiful and so much easier, but how do you keep bleach from drying out? i guess you must work fast...

Thank it is my pleasure to share it with you. I used 10vol on the back and 20vol on the front. 😁👍🏻
@@TheLifeOfHair much appreciated 😊
I would definitely use this technique🌟🇦🇺
Fantastic Joey
I’m impressed
Brandi wicked glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻😁
Wow!!! You make it look so easy. Would I use a 1 to 2 part ratio (1 part blue bleach to 2 part 20 vol)? Thank u so much .
@@TheLifeOfHair thank u so much James☺
How long did you process ?
Hi, can i put her under a dryer if i want a faster lift, with out the bleach hair going all over and make a mess?
I never really recommend putting peoples hair under heat when you’ve got bleach involved it can cause all sorts of problems it does make the hair lift faster but you are playing with fire
What brand lightener are you using? Beautiful color
Redken flash lift. 20vol. Thank you very much 😁👍🏻
So lovely!
Ah thank you very much 😁👍🏻
Hello!
Can this work on Asian hair?
I find it difficult on Asian hair.
Yes this can work on Asian hair but you’re not going to get a huge matter lift you would only want to be looking for a maximum of 3/4 levels lighter than the starting point
Thank you for the answer!
Did you share your toner here?
Thank you so much for sharing!
Would this be an acceptable technique for darker hair? Like a level 6 and darker?
Ahhh you answered I video.
Absolutely it is I use it the most in this format. It’s a great technique in general as long as you don’t want to more than 3 levels of lift. 😁👍🏻
@@TheLifeOfHair thank you
You’re welcome
Very pretty!! ❤️
Thank you very much
@@TheLifeOfHair ❤
Would you use this technique on level 6 or darker?
Yes I would but I will definitely bear in mind that you’re probably going to get maximum of four levels of left You can get 5 to 6 levels of lift if you cover each section with clingfilm 👍🏻
Could you mix redken high lift with 30 volume to lighten more on darker levels? Like to lift a base level 5 or 6 to 9 or 10?
Yer you can mix Redken high lift unto 5 levels with 40vol so yes in a nut shell higher pro oxide more lift 😁👍🏻
Thanks so much. I love your videos. So educational.
One what to one and a half what ?
For example 10 g of bleach powder to 15 g of peroxide 1:1.5 👍🏻
In stead of 1 part color/bleach to two parts developer like most colorings call for
