    I haven't read most of the books discussed here, but this was entertaining. It was also a good reminder that there's always someone who hates the books you love and vice versa. Sometimes I let negative reviews of books on my TBR dissuade me from starting them, and I need to keep it in perspective.

      @elizabaum Ahhh thank you so much! Glad to hear that you found it entertaining 😃 and I Absolutely agree! I personally don't read any reviews before reading my book (except for arc readers, i skim read to film the upcoming releases video and give you guys an overall feel for the book. And also when i see that the posivte reviews outnumber the negative ones, i ignore the negative). I try my best not to go into the book with any expectations and just try to enjoy my ride 🤓💜

      @@CoffeeAndTales My problem is less because of reading reviews and more when I happen to watch a booktube video where a person I like hates a book that's on my TBR. Now, when that happens, I may start seeking out a positive review to keep the world in balance.

    I agree with everything you said. One should not leave a star rating for books you DNFed. Perhaps there should be a DNF option. I particularly loved the One Dark Window duology and the Red Rising series, but loved all the books except the Mind*** series which I haven’t read yet.

    In my opinion, if you DNF a book you shouldn’t rate it because you didn’t read it.

      @Vicky-xz1nu yup! I also think they should add a DNF option when you want to write a review. It would be much better that way imo 💜

      Agreed. I mean it makes no sense to rate something that you didn’t finish. Just DNF it and move on with another book. Some people get discouraged by people who tell everyone else they didn’t like it and didn’t finish it because of whatever THEY THINK was bad about it. Reading is subjective. Just because it’s not for you, doesn’t mean it’s not good for others.

    Those 1 star reviews for one dark window are NOT it 😂 I very much get the feeling that they just didn't vibe with the book and skimmed/glanced over so many parts that essentially prevented them from actually immersing themselves into the book and not being able to fall into the world by choice, rather than that the author didn't do a good job at setting up the world. I genuinely think some of those people should just stick with an "eh, not for me" rather than type out a full review where it seems like they're just making things up because they didn't actually give it a full chance. So yes, I fully agree haha. I'm half way through two twisted crowns and this is one of the best duologies I've read.

    Hm... I do agree with a bit of the reviews on One Dark Window - The info on all the cards was in one paragraph I even tabbed it so I could go back to it again to re-read.. but overall I did enjoy the book and being mid way through it I got a good grasp on the cards powers. I think in Red Rising the reviewer who said they didn't understand why they "let" their kids die clearly didn't read the book. I felt like one the ... maybe first 3-5 chapters of Six of Crows were a bit hard to understand? but umm idk I feel like people don't want to put in the work to understand what is being written...? Of course when you start out a book you're gonna be a bit confused about some of the words specially in a fantasy-like setting but ... idk lazy lazy :x. About When the Moon Hatched I also was a bit confused on some of the words just having a letter added to them it was a bit weird but there's dragons in the book? !! hello?! x) also idk if it was just the edition I bought but I had my glossary in the end of the book - which I kinda forgot about until I got to the end and the first page was a family tree?? Whyyy? What if I wanted to go the glossary and accidentally saw that family tree page 😭. I'm not sure of how I feel about DNF reviews - they can be helpful to know if something is for me or not.. but I think they shouldn't count to overall rating of the book. Still think some people are just lazy readers but you know.. that's why there's all kinds of different books that can be enjoyed by different kinds of people.

    • @CoffeeAndTales
      @CoffeeAndTales  Месяц назад +1

      @Muxl That's interesting about WTMH, my glossary is at the beginning. Also as you said, it's totally normal to feel a bit lost when you start reading about a new fantasy world. And yes, 1000% agree that some people are just lazy and don't want to make the effort to understand ...🙄

    Personally when I started reading "Six of Crows" I didn't enjoy it much because I couldn't really like Kaz and Inej too much, I don't know why, but the moment when Nina and Matthias were introduced, I got hooked! Then everything that started happening in the story, all the amazing events and action, made me eventually like Kaz and Inej quite a bit, but Nina is still my favorite! ^_^

    Some of these reviews are just down right mean. I've read plenty of popular books that I didn't enjoy, but I don't think people that enjoyed them are less than me. It's so weirdly elitist to be like oh if you like XYZ kind of books you're less than, you're dumb, etc. I accept that some genres, some tropes just aren't for me. Sometimes I don't know they aren't for me until I read it and that's fine!

    I know I'm in the minority here, but I still disagree with you on DNF ratings. I get that you personally don't like them (especially when they are on your favorite books), but they are just as valid as someone raving about a book they think is 5 stars. The reader is posting a review from what they are feeling about what they read. They are posting their own experience, which is the whole point of the review. Someone realizing a book is not for them does not negate their feelings on it! They may not even KNOW it's not for them until they attempt to read it - especially if most of the reviews are positive. We are constantly told to expand our reading horizons, and try reading new things. Occasionally that means reading something that just doesn't work for the reader.
    One of the negative reviews against One Dark Window that you showed has actually moved the book higher up on my TBR. Some negative reviews/DNF reviews will help other readers know that a book isn't for them. Negative/DNF reviews can be just as helpful as positive ones.

    • @CoffeeAndTales
      @CoffeeAndTales  Месяц назад

      @kaylaboss8096 Totally understand what you mean. Some 1 star reviews make me want to pick up the book even more 😅. For the DNF, I really wish Goodreads adds this option, it would be so much better that way. I mean if you dnf a book after 26 pages like the Red Rising review (or 2 chapters in SOC review), imo you didn't read enough to leave a 1 star. Why bring the star rating down when you didn't read enough? It's unfair imo. I think in that case, it's better to write a review without giving a star rating and, of course, mention how much they read if they dnf-ed.

    I don’t gel well with “Dark” romance they read more like erotic horror to me. (Like Haunting Adeline.) Rain of Shadow and Endings I ate up! The lighter or middling side is my sweet spot!😂 So I would NEVER place myself in that position as a reader and write a review. I understand trying to broaden your reading horizons but reviewing what you feel is outside your comfort and comprehension is wild!😂😂😂

      THANK YOU for giving your opinion as someone who do not enjoy dark romance. This is exactly what I was trying to explain, if I want to try a genre that is out of my comfort, I wouldn't feel comfortable rating the book either because clearly i wasn't the target audience! So why bring the rating down?? PS: I enjoyed Haunting Adeline, when I started it I remember thinking "what the hell is going on"🤣 but the writing was so bingeable and addictive, that i couldn't put it down and I found myself getting used to their "weird" dynamic hahahha😂
