Speculation is rife that Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, currently leading a government in alliance with the RJD and the Congress, is set to jump ship to the BJP again. If this happens, this would be the fourth time Kumar has shifted allegiance since he became CM in 2005. What’s most significant in this JD(U) back and forth is that Nitish has retained the CM’s chair no matter who he is in alliance with. In Ep 1053 of Cut The Clutter, Editor-in-Chief Shekhar Gupta explains the phenomenon of Nitish Kumar and his politics. The episode was originally published on 9 August 2022, right after Nitish last broke ranks with the BJP.

What could be the gain for BJP to do such a last minute maneuver? I think their on ground calculations might be showing that both will get more seats if they are together vs alone.. I think this could however hurt bjp in long term.. because they now look like far more power hungry and ready to bend backwards just to gain a few months in power.

No doubt, the rehabilitation of Nitish in the BJP camp is cringe, and I hope it does not happen, but NOTHING IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE RETURN OF MODI 2024. Nitish's command over a 4% vote bank is equivalent to 40 Lok Sabha seats. It is also the coup de grâce to the INDIA alliance and Left-Libs hope. However, it puts the Right on the path to reclaim Kashi-Mathura.

Had Nitish Kumar been the CM for so many years by delivery and development, had he been doing political gymnastics in order to stay in power AND deliver his vision, I would not have had any problem. But the thing is his sole purpose is to be in power and be forever in power. No moral compass, no spine, no integrity. No matter how many years he stays on be the CM, would always fall short in History when will be compared to Shri Krishna Sinha (which itself shows the sorrow state of politics of the state which never had someone who could be considered as a true LEADER except the 1st CM ) .

Great analysis! It is to be noted that that Nitish Kumar gave the best governance to Bihar till date and he is still called Sushashanbabu. That under a government with alliance with some other party! Which such government has performed this well? BJP is able to use ED, CBI against many parties, but never against JD(U) yet. Does that not reveal the greatness of the Nitish Kumar? The problem with Nitish is, his party never had a majority and he got sandwiched between a family-run caste-based corrupt party called RJD on one side and a shameless communal party called BJP on the other side. But still he is giving whatever good governance it can to Bihar. I wish Nitish Kumar's party had majority in Bihar!

Nitish Kumar is not a socialist or conservative, he don't have any ideology.
