  • Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer says the party is aiming for victory in 2024 after hailing a seismic win at the Blackpool South by-election.
Chris Webb secured 10,825 votes in a contest triggered by the resignation of former Tory MP Scott Benton after a lobbying scandal.
Labour secured a majority of 7,607, and a swing of 26% from the conservatives to Labour
Speaking after the election results were declared, Sir Keir said Mr Webb was the first Blackpool born and bred MP for 60 years and is a 'powerful advocate' for the area.
He added that Labour now needs to complete on the 'first class, excellent by-election win' with a General Election win.
Sir Keir said the party is aiming for victory in 2024, and that people want to 'turn their backs on 14 years of decline under the Tories."
