A very beneficial message to me.
I'm 72 and have been a member of our parish for 20 years and the only job I had was head usher for a couple years. All of a sudden in the last 8 months I was elected as an elder, began leading a weekly Bible study and a Sunday school teacher. I also occasionally do the Gospel and Epistle readings. I understand how I can feel "special" because I stand out all of a sudden. This can lead to a higher self esteem and feeling special in God's sight and of the congregation. I fight to be humble but easier said than done. I thank you for your message, I can tell you put in a lot of time into your work and you don't beet around the bush. You are direct and we need teachers and pastors like you. This was very helpful.

Pastor, when you "Lord I thank you for my life", as the tears began to immediately flow-- I thought to myself, "have I ever done this?" I mean with all I've been through along side of what I am dealing with now? Honestly I have not. And if I did, I surely did not mean it. But now that you have been led by the Spirit to bring this flaw to my mind's eye. I must do so. If not, then I will continue to be ungrateful for my life. I know that I have been.

    Isaiah 64:6
“But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.”

It’s a shame about Doug Wilson if that’s true. I’ve benefited a lot from his work.

so, "johny and susy" have no ongoing relationship of ANY kind, prior to this accident or prior to being in the car as a 'couple'--no lingering eye contact; they've never talked dating or being with each other--about kissing or touching or shared any kind of illicit relationship--prior to THIS act that happened in the accident? highly unlikely, but possible, I guess so bc, Jesus says all things are possible. you need to find a different example bc this one is not realistic to me, one sex organ doesn't mistakenly FALL into another one ... it takes planning ... the ONGOING planning is where the sin happens--in the invisible, the act is merely the manifestation. When you focus on the WHAT (the act of sex being the 'sin') ... you miss the real litmus test: the WHY. And we can't see that can we, only God can see motive. That's why Jesus says 'looking' is committing adultery, not DOING it.

Hypotheticals are to be taken at face value. Your twisting and expanding of it makes you miss the point, which is: When God saves, he indeed saves utterly, apart from any works or good deeds from you (Romans 3:28).

@@PatternSon I don't feel it's twisting; I'm looking for an honest answer to understand the "hypothetical." All of the parables of Jesus were realistic to commoners (none religious types) to make His spiritual point. This person is using a parable not a hyperbole. The story to illustrate a spiritual point or make a theological point, is in this example, unrealistic to the realty of how humans actually interact. Thanks, for further muddying the water, which is generally what happens with Christian legalism (the religiously educated).

@@lillianthomas9861 you don’t need to plan ahead of time to fall into sexual sin, even if you did, it doesn’t matter. Your performance isn’t what saves you. Christians fall into sin all the time but the Lord brings them to repentance because they belong to Him. You are the one muddying the waters. Christ saves to the uttermost. It’s a perfectly Valid example. You don’t maintain your salvation by your virtue.
