    As someone who owns black DLC coated titanium pocket knives I can tell you this….the reason why you can rub off the marks is because what you’re rubbing off is the element of the surface the watch has come into contact with. So what you’re essentially doing is rubbing off the concrete or rock off the watch. DLC is the best finish you can get on titanium and stands for diamond like coating for a reason. It increases the hardness of the titanium. Hope this helps.

    As a watch guy, I can tell you that buying the black ultra for "scratch resistance" is the big mistake. Yes, the DLC coating is more durable than bare titanium but it's only a mater of time before you hit it or scrape it hard enough to penetrate the coating and reveal the bare titanium underneath which will cause the mark to show far than it would on the bare titanium model. The bare titanium model will age far better than the black variant. Apple uses grade 5 ti so it's durable enough on its own. Buy the black ultra 2 because you like the look or else you will be dissapointed if you are expecting something that will not show wear.

    • @SignorLuigi
      @SignorLuigi 17 дней назад

      @ No wrist pain. Could you possibly be over twisting your wrist to look at the screen? Or maybe you are just not used to rotating your wrist many times a day to look at a smart watch screen? I don't think this has anything to do with the Ultra 2 relative to other smart watches. Yes, it weighs a few more grams than a regular Apple Watch. But I can't imagine it's the weight. I think it is much more likely it's how your rotating your wrist to view the screen, or how many times per day your rotating your wrist to view the screen. Maybe try not turning your wrist so much to view the screen. See if that helps.

    • @architecture_logs
      @architecture_logs 17 дней назад

      @ thanks for replying. I don’t rotate my wrist all the time at all. I have two choices.. either to strap it loose and then it hits my wrist bone or tie it tight above it and it itches. Thats my experience.
      I am new to smart watches.. that’s my first one - my third day with it..

    • @SignorLuigi
      @SignorLuigi 16 дней назад

      @ Ah! Since this is new for you I'd try slowly increase the time I wear the watch and let your body get used to it. Wearing it loose is probably not a great idea as it can mess up readings like heat rate. Also, Idon't know what watch band you got. But a lot of folks find the trail loop band real comfortable as it is infinitely adjustable and breathes better reducing the chance for skin irritation. The trail loop band for the Ultra is very similar to the sport loop band for non-Ultra watches. That's the watch band I use. I also give the underside of the watch a cleaning fairly often to also reduce the chances of skin irritation. I just spray some eye glass cleaner on the backside and wipe it off with a microfiber cloth. Takes about 15-30 seconds. This is more important in the summer when sweat collects under the watch face. Good luck!

    I've got an ultra 2 and definitely put it through its paces. What I've noticed about the finish is that the titanium is very strong but the textured finish will mark. Scratches don't penetrate but they do blemish the texture. I figure the black will be similar unless you really bang it or drag it across a sharp object. I bet if you take the black ultra 2 and drag it across rough natural granite it will destroy it. Rock Climbing, Mountaineering, Scrambles any sport wear your using your hands against real rock you will have a problem. Drop test is one thing but accidentally sliding the finish against something like a cliff or if you fall while hiking and it hits a rock while you save your face from the same fate. I highly doubt it'll hold up to that.

    After 1 year + of wearing Apple watch ultra 1 I can tell you that it's durable. I have no cover and did a lot of activities and never took it off from my wrist. So I was swimming in a sea for a month and no harm happened. Only salt deposits on the device was annoying. Old watch 4 was much better due to curve shape. On Apple watch ultra salt is everywhere on the screen rants(titanium case is a little higher than the screen) and it looks very bad. You need to keep in mind to always clean it afterwards. So far this is the best disadvantage of Ultra design. Have no screen scars and only one small one on titanium frame(made by spigen case which I immediately threw away).

    The question is not how durable the coating is, but rather how durable the material underneath the coating is. If the material underneath is significantly softer, as is the case with titanium, the coating above will "break" like a hard eggshell when it is subjected to stress at certain points. This is why we talk about the eggshell effect. Some manufacturers of high-quality watches therefore coat the stainless steel before coating it (ice hardening, for example). These watches are then almost indestructible. The Ultra 2 will scratch very quickly and you will see the silver titanium underneath. My own Ultra 2 in Black scratched after the first 12 hours.

    Fantastic video, and I was hoping to see some real life testing of the black Ultra 2. Nice as the black is, my thoughts would be that when you do majorly ding it/scratch it, and remove the black coating and reveal the natural titanium below, the scratch/ding is going to be WAY MORE noticeable, and this video proves my thoughts correct. Admittedly your high quality camera and macro will make the scratches look worse than they are. Definitely think I will be sticking with the natural titanium for this reason and also, I just find that the natural titanium colour looks more premium in my opinion. It's great that we now have more than one colour choice for the Ultra.

    I used several Apple Watches, all got scratched quickly till I got the Original Ultra two years ago. The Ultra stayed in pristine condition with no blemishes or scratches in spite of wearing it day and night. I only take it off to charge for half hour every 2 days.

    I had my ultra 2 satin black out of the box for 5 minutes and the bezel got scratched setting it up… didn’t drop it or anything. I decided to return for the natural finish.

    I was planning to keep my series 7 until they released the ultra 3, but I believe it was stolen from my job or I lost it. I preordered the black ultra 2, but after seeing damage report posts on Reddit I decided to wait and see. Although the wear these simple tests did were very minimal, you can tell this watch will not look good 4 years down the road. I understand the argument of it being a sports watch, which I will use for as well, but I also want to use it in a casual setting like dates or hanging out with friends. The damage each watch receives should be the same, but it’s a coating and it will come off and be more apparent. Besides that, I liked the aesthetics of the natural titanium after a few days seeing pictures of both with different watch bands. Thanks for this video boss. It helped me solidify my choice.

    It would be interesting to see if the new Milanese band scratches the DLC coating of the watch. That has been a problem in the past.

    The treatment impregnates the color into the surface the metal. That’s why it doesn’t scratch like you would think.

    I have an AWU 1, had it for two years now, holding steady with no scratches. I’ve crashed on my MTB, fallen on a trail run, constantly bang it on the wall, all good.
