Talk about giving the viewers what they want! Hope your video makes enough back to pay for the devices being tested and then some.
That's why I decided to keep it pretty "real world" as the watch is still fully functional and looks fine lol. Thanks for watching!
Right I feel like this was a dud and he missed the mark to actually report the durability… oh well I guess we’ll have to wait on Jerryrigeverything instead he’s much better
@@Alex-kt6hx Zack will completely destroy the device. My approach was to keep it realistic and not use a razor blade to remove the finish as any watch will fail that test. I love JerryRigEverything but I feel like there’s no way to “win” his experiments lol.
@@Alex-kt6hx Jerry does a tear down that does not prove real word durability actually it’s pretty dumb scratches out of level six or eight nobody in the world knows what level six or eight really is because you don’t know how you scratch your watch so no that’s not a real breakdown. He takes apart the watch or fall completely scratches it with his knife advertises the brand but if that’s what you consider that wow
@@Alex-kt6hxyou sound like an entitled brat. Yea go to that other channel we are cool with that.
The only reviewer who finally gave us worthy content. Major props
You should smack it on a wall or door frame that's how I always end up scratching my watches 😂
I’ve clonked mine into walls and door frames a couple of times (enough to transfer paint onto the watch) and fortunately no visible damage so far 😅
Doing the lord’s work
He did it!
Huh?
finally someone hit this iv been waiting for a finish test before upgrading to the potential black
If I close my eyes, I see Jerry "Zack" Everything doing jumping jacks with knives in his pocket from tomorrow on 🤣
I had the original Ultra and it had no scratches after two years of regular use. I decided to upgrade to the satin black Ultra 2 after hearing the info pertaining to the increased durability. I don’t usually beat up my watches but I am a very active person and I don’t baby them. Thank you for being the sacrificial lamb for all of us (potential) Ultra 2 owners.
Hi. You say the reason for the upgrade was the “increased durability” of the Black-2 but at the same time you say the Original-1 has no scratches in 2 years of use. So basically the Original is not giving you any reason to be changed. Be honest. You just love that black color!!! 😄 I do too 👍🏼👍🏼
I love the moment you start to question life. "Is this good content?" lmao. Yes, I love all your content.
As someone who owns black DLC coated titanium pocket knives I can tell you this….the reason why you can rub off the marks is because what you’re rubbing off is the element of the surface the watch has come into contact with. So what you’re essentially doing is rubbing off the concrete or rock off the watch. DLC is the best finish you can get on titanium and stands for diamond like coating for a reason. It increases the hardness of the titanium. Hope this helps.
As someone who owns several DLC coated knives and actually uses them, I will say they will scratch at some point.
@@GodOfWar109 if you’re implying I don’t use mine well you’re wrong. Also, I never said DLC is invincible. Secondly, the quality of the dlc application can vary. Further I’m not implying that you’ve got it confused but some people do confuse PVD coatings with DLC. DLC is far superior. Have a good one.
Had the original Ultra and two years of gym and regular wear, not one scratch or mark on it... Just upgraded to the Ultra 2 black titanium and have already accidentally banged it a couple times and no marks or scratches whatsoever. The beauty of the black one also is if you do get a scratch, nothing that a black sharpie can't fix:)
Yes, looking to sharpie the orange button 😊
The blackness of sharpie is too black than the matte black of the AWU2 though..
Fantastic video that FINALLY showed some real life scratch test. Exactly what I needed. Thank you! BTW, I see your video getting hundreds of views live as I type this. Congrats for being on the front page of RUclips!
I watched someone doing something like this to an Ultra 1 and it convinced me to buy an AW. After 2 years of usage, including moving to a new house, diving, regular laps in the local club pool, working on my bikes and car (including a rage episode where I could not connect my watch to my AirPods - which I throw my watch away).... no big scratches on the metal and zero on the glass.
Videos like that should be sponsored by Apple our Garmin, because videos like that make people buy the product.
Great video, thank you. Real life tests. For me the biggest issue was door handles. For some reason I’m always smacking my watch on door handles cracked to Apple Watches on them.
lol, I thought I was the only one! I always seem to bump a door knob, or brick wall.
Thank you for doing a “real world” test! This is exactly what everyone has been waiting for. Also, props to buying a brand new one just to sacrifice it for this video so you can give your viewers what they want to see! You are awesome, man. Hope the views and likes help cover the cost. Keep up the fantastic content!
The video we all needed, people can stop worrying and see that the ultra 2 black holds up! Thanks for the video!
Glad it was helpful!
The black doesn’t hold up that well, did you not watch it
@@mikemountain9699 Did you miss the bit where he said the more he rubbed it the more the mark went away?
@@stuartaparker no, it looked like it didn’t rub away at all on camera. TBH after that video I would avoid the black as it looks to scratch worse than the original.
"Is this good content?" yes it is.. you doing great bro.. thanks for the contents..
Never usually follow or like or whatever on these videos.. but you’ve actually made some relatable content at your own cost. So props mate! 👍🏽
This is the single most valuable video for the black Ultra I've seen so far! Thank you!
THIS IS WHAT THE PEOPLE NEEDED.
I’ll be side eyeing my AWU2B for the rest of my ownership 👀
Thanks for taking that hit! Highly appreciated. I just ordered the ultra 2 in titanium, exactly for the reasons you stated (if it's scratched, you just reveal more titanium) - and because I liked the look more. Definitely getting a titanium link band for it, gives me Casio vibes.
liking and commenting for because no video deserves more exposure! A man who is for the people!!!
Been wearing an AWU1 since they came out. Between hanging tree stands in the woods, working on my truck and going to the gym 5x a week it still looks brand new! A few dings but you have to know they are there to see them. Thoroughly impressed with the build quality!
This content proves that there’s no need to buy any screen protector for the Satin Black Ultra 2. Kudos!
Nice vid! That scratch on the black ultra case would kinda bug me. Natural finish works for me.
I had to close my eyes watching those drops...hahah Thank you for the video!
What I was looking for before deciding on buying my first Ultra. Thank you 🙏🏼
I’ve had the original Ultra since launch and I wear it daily including on mountain bike rides. I have taken 4 or 5 crashes while wearing it and it is the only thing that isn’t scratched up 😂 I’m super impressed with the durability and performance. Best Apple Watch ever made.
My ultra 2 has been unbelievably tough.
Garmin is the GOAT!
Great test !!
I actually bought the black but ended up
Returning and getting the natural titanium as or tho i wasn’t particularly worried it would mark easily it was however an absolute nightmare for fingers prints ! My ocd couldn’t handle it as it always looked like it needed cleaning, also or tho the black looks cool the dull Matt finish just doesn’t have the same expensive high end premium appeal as the original natural version
The treatment impregnates the color into the surface the metal. That’s why it doesn’t scratch like you would think.
Giving the people what they want! Nice. Also - dude you’re looking jacked! Any videos for your non running workouts coming anytime soon?
Ultra 2 owner here. 1 year old. Still looks like new. I use it every day and night. Exercise every day. Do a lot of yard and home maintenance.
I've got an ultra 2 and definitely put it through its paces. What I've noticed about the finish is that the titanium is very strong but the textured finish will mark. Scratches don't penetrate but they do blemish the texture. I figure the black will be similar unless you really bang it or drag it across a sharp object. I bet if you take the black ultra 2 and drag it across rough natural granite it will destroy it. Rock Climbing, Mountaineering, Scrambles any sport wear your using your hands against real rock you will have a problem. Drop test is one thing but accidentally sliding the finish against something like a cliff or if you fall while hiking and it hits a rock while you save your face from the same fate. I highly doubt it'll hold up to that.
I have an Watch Ultra 1 since Oct 2022. I wear it everyday. Very active too (running, calisthenics, diving and swimming). Ocean band.
Still in pristine condition! It’s a Beast of a tool watch!
Sir, you deserve all the likes. Thank you for doing this!
Awesome brother!!!!!!!!!!! been waiting for this test!
I got the satin black watch and was super edgy about it but now I can wear it with more confidence thanks to this review ✊🏽
Glad it was helpful!
Only bad thing about the black is finger prints ! Its an absolute magnet for them 🙈
“Is this good content?” 😂😂😂
Thank you for all of this!!!! Not all heroes wear capes.
Came in less than a minute lets go!
Good test thanks.
6:20 I think that’s because it scratched something else and pieces from other object are now on the watch. Seems like this is impossible scratchable
This is exactly what I’m thinking. If you can rub it off, it’s material from the other object that is on the watch.
Have you seen any scratches on yours, @shervinshares ?
You are Amazing for this bro. Much respect! 🙌🏼
My black ultra is arriving tomorrow. So it’s kind of too late to see the scratch test now 😆
And yet here I am. Watching it anyways 😂
I own an Apple Watch Ultra 2 in natural titanium. I’ve had it for 3 months. In that time there is not a single thing scratched, shattered, or broken. It is very durable. I work around metal so the watch has seen its fair share of dings, and bumps, against those surfaces. But like I said it’s in perfect condition.
Great video, The scratch on the U2 black is a huge bummer I can’t lie.
It’s to be expected. The Garmin had similar damage but honestly they don’t look bad in person. It’s sort of amplified by my fancy cameras and macro lenses when I zoom way in.
Glad I went with the Natural Ti!
@@ChaseTheSummit the marks shown on Ultra 2 Black are bad in person? I mean the scratch in the lower left corner. Thanks for this really useful video!
I had my ultra 2 satin black out of the box for 5 minutes and the bezel got scratched setting it up… didn’t drop it or anything. I decided to return for the natural finish.
Really? Interesting!
Thx’s for this the real life video !!
Great job!!!
Thank you for this real world test! I got the black Ultra 2 it is the color I’ve been waiting for!! 😂 I’ve been babying it so it's good to know I don’t have to 💯
Finally a video where you can see what the durability is of the ultra watch 2 BLACK
Nice Test.! 👍🏻
Apple had two years to design a good coating. And they did it. 🙌🏻
Love my Watch Ultra satin black.!
Dope DJI Mic. I like your Vids bruh.
Fantastic video, and I was hoping to see some real life testing of the black Ultra 2. Nice as the black is, my thoughts would be that when you do majorly ding it/scratch it, and remove the black coating and reveal the natural titanium below, the scratch/ding is going to be WAY MORE noticeable, and this video proves my thoughts correct. Admittedly your high quality camera and macro will make the scratches look worse than they are. Definitely think I will be sticking with the natural titanium for this reason and also, I just find that the natural titanium colour looks more premium in my opinion. It's great that we now have more than one colour choice for the Ultra.
I'm still waiting for mine. Ordered it as soon as it was available to order 😅
omg , the sounds crunchy.
Ok, that’s somewhat interesting - I haven’t seen drop tests for a long time, and defo not one of watches 😂 good job 👍
Thank you for this test mate!
Thank's for the video 🙂, now i will upgrage my ultra 1 with the satin black...byyeeee😁
I have the Apple Watch Ultra 2 titanium. I had it since it came out last year. I guess I’m lucky as my watch looks like it’s brand new. Thanks for your review.
As a watch guy, I can tell you that buying the black ultra for "scratch resistance" is the big mistake. Yes, the DLC coating is more durable than bare titanium but it's only a mater of time before you hit it or scrape it hard enough to penetrate the coating and reveal the bare titanium underneath which will cause the mark to show far than it would on the bare titanium model. The bare titanium model will age far better than the black variant. Apple uses grade 5 ti so it's durable enough on its own. Buy the black ultra 2 because you like the look or else you will be dissapointed if you are expecting something that will not show wear.
Test the new Milanese loop on the back of the watch. I have found it has left thousands of little scratches in a few days with very careful use. After testing I can hear and feel it grip the back of watch and see scratches after. Seen anything about this yet?
Interesting, I hadn't heard about that. I don't have the Milanese loop on hand unfortunately.
Accidentally discovered it last night. It has created thousands of little scratches on the back sensor and even the ceramic.
@@travisdamickdang it’s something I never considered but it makes sense. Titanium scratches ceramic. Gonna have to take off the band when you’re done using it. I personally will only use it go on a date or something of that nature.
@@fallenangeltv6973 yes for sure. I talked to Apple and told them about it. I was super careful too. It was from setting it down just to shower. I am going to return it for a different band. I just haven’t seen anyone else mention it yet so wondering if anyone else had same issue.
Been waiting for this. Thank you.
Great content. The ultra 2 black showed the silver underneath the black. For people who are worried about scratching their watch, get a case cover. If want to see the beauty for the watch, get a clear case cover.
Nah the mark was coming off. If he'd cleaned it properly it would have disappeared. He said the more he rubbed it the more it went away.
thank god someone did it
Thanks for the invest and test ❤
Very helpful review Dave, thanks.
My iPhone fell from an airplane, sooooo, that happens.
Still typing on it 😅
I'm going to stick with the raw titanium version; my tactix has some wear on the bezel and I can only deduce that they AWU2 in satin black will gain some wear in its lifetime.
Yay new color...I'm so excited😂😂😂😅😅
You deserve a like and a comment for that! Very helpful! Even though I already ordered it, this gave me peace of mind!
Glad it was helpful!
@@ChaseTheSummit It was! God bless!
Awesome content, helped me make a decision between the natural/ black Ultra 👍🏻💯
what u choose ? hahaha
Legend as always! Great video my man!
You need to be bonkers to put your watch in your pocket with your keys! I got one on launch day and have clonked it a couple of times on walls and door frames (enough to transfer paint onto the watch) 😅 fortunately no visible damage so far. I do think they are reasonably resilient to day to day use
Can you do similar drop tests for the rear side of the watch without bands. This will help us understand the materials more
Very brave doing a drop test
Thank you for your service
Had the black ultra 2 for 2 days, and already knock twice on my table's metal frame but haven noticed any scratches yet.
I’m thinking of upgrading from my series 7 Apple Watch to the ultra two in the black and this just helped so much because the series 7 durability is not that great and the ultra will be a lot better but that black color looks so nice and I definitely want better battery life I do wish there was more upgrades, but I don’t know if I can wait another year for the ultra three so I think I’m gonna go ahead and get the ultra to in black so thank you so much for your reviews and helping me be able to get that watch hopefully by Christmas time
Way back when I dropped my Pebble Steel in the gym parking lot and shattered the screen, the sound still gets to me
Thank you so much! Been waiting for a review like this! Any plans to do a longer review on the black ultra to see how it hold up over time?
Yep, that will be part of the long term review down the road.
It rocks 100 percent
The damage on the watch depends very much on the distance to the ground. Dropping it while bicycling or from a cliff, to cement or rock, will definitely make marks on it.
I understand the drop test on the face as you explained that you might drop your watch putting it on or taking it off, but trail running. Who falls on the back of their wrist. Normal reaction is to catch yourself with your hands.
Good point. Though I’ve taken some weird spills in my time!
Thumbs up for the investment
Nice video. But it would be nice if you did the test with the Bands off of all watches.
I bought the pitaka thin case for the U2B so i think im good and its the slimiest case you can get for the ultra and still looks good 😄
even though it's not my watch, i wince when you drop it. this is a great video for sadists tho.
Thanks! Can you do it for the jet black series 10 as well please ?
Wow haha thank you!! Been waiting for someone to do this.
Nice I’ve been waiting for this review. Thank you so I’m definitely gonna keep my natural titanium ultra too and wear it to work and then keep my black one for all my workouts and stuff. Thanks for a great video man. Appreciate you.
Thank you buddy
Thanks for this video!
I have an Ultra 2 that’s a year old. It still looks great. I bump it mostly on my desk that’s metal the most. It actually makes me cringe every time. I’ve learn to be more careful these last few weeks. But I bumped it when I first got it and then a few weeks ago I hit it like 3 more times & I just don’t get why my arm doesn’t automatically know to not do that. But anyway, no deep scratches. There’s a small indenture on the top center part. But overall. My watch looks great. I’m happy I still have the Blood Oxygen Sensor too even though I don’t know what to do with that information really, but that’s why I won’t upgrade to the all black. I know apple is confident they’ll get it back. But who knows when that will be. It could be before Christmas or it could be before 3 Christmas’ from now. And since I have it now. No worries. I do rub it up against my car too sometimes, but my car is 10+ years old and the siding will come off on it. Like this rubber black stuff. That’s easy to remove, but can get in-between the glass and side part. It’s just more annoying to take time out to rub it out. Outside of that. My Ultra 2 looks way more newer than my Series 5 did after a year. The only other Series to match how new this one looks after a year is the Series 1 I had. The Series 3 was the worst. That’s all I can compare it to. I’ve only ever had the Series 1, 3, 5, and Ultra 2.
Please do the same test for the series 10 jet black please!
I was planning to keep my series 7 until they released the ultra 3, but I believe it was stolen from my job or I lost it. I preordered the black ultra 2, but after seeing damage report posts on Reddit I decided to wait and see. Although the wear these simple tests did were very minimal, you can tell this watch will not look good 4 years down the road. I understand the argument of it being a sports watch, which I will use for as well, but I also want to use it in a casual setting like dates or hanging out with friends. The damage each watch receives should be the same, but it’s a coating and it will come off and be more apparent. Besides that, I liked the aesthetics of the natural titanium after a few days seeing pictures of both with different watch bands. Thanks for this video boss. It helped me solidify my choice.
Thanks for this!
I had a chance to check out the AWU2 black today at our local Apple Store.
They just went out this past Friday on display, so roughly 4 days in a curated environment.
The first thing that struck me was the finish was the worst I’ve seen on an Apple Watch to date. It almost looked like it was plasti dipped and textured.
Second was the amount of visible scratches on the watch compared to the regular titanium model. Again after less than a week in the store.
It feels like Apple rushed this out and I wouldn’t be surprised if they retooled the manufacturing.
Commenting for the algo. Cheers mate for doing exactly what you said. Wondering 2 things; could you really clean the scratch up and what if it hits metal door frames?
nice video dave!
