HomeKit has lacked robust "Roles" for a long time. Glad to see the beginnings of Guest Access here (pause video at 9:59). Hopefully in iOS 16 they will give us the ability to control what other devices guests can/can't use.
9:56 Hey Jon! Hope you are fine! I just installed the Agara Smart Door Lock D100 Zigbee and manage access in the smart lock settings is missing! Do you know how to enable it! The lock is paired with Aqara M1S gen2 hub and i am using iPhone 14 Pro on iOS 16.4.1! Thanks!
Can’t imagine this can work with UK doors though? They’re mostly 5 point locking which requires you to lift the door handle to engage the door in the frame. Would be amazing if it does work though!
I can't take about the specifics of the lock in the video as I am under embargo, but yes most in the UK require the handle to be lifted as you say. This one does work in that way, but not sure it would support a 5 point system
Looking at the Aqara website it seems to state that its a mortice locking system, so it wouldn't support the multipoint that most of the UK use. Hopefully more brands will start supporting this and we get more options over here than the dated Conexis L1

If you have access via a home key can you also assign a numerical unlock code to your Home key in case say you forgot your phone and watch in the house?
Are these going to be or are they compatible with the Philips hue in order to create the same environment using different devices that they are home kit?
How quick is it from the time you tap to when it actually unlocks? I guess that will depend on the hardware too, but at least from your testing is it quick?
Wasn’t home key supposed to get ultra wideband support to unlock as your phone walks up to the lock instead of express mode, am I just mis-remembering that or is it not included on the particular locks you have on hand and may come to locks from other manufacturers
I spoke with Yale a few months ago. They seem to be working on HomeKit support still for the Conexsis lock. I suspect it will have HomeKey too as it does have NFC already on the same standard as iPhones use.
This lock looks to be for interior doors, where the handle is doing the locking by not letting you turn it, instead of something like a deadbolt. Is this something that would work with standard outdoor deadbolts in America? Or would we have to defer to the Schlage Encode Plus?
@@HomeKitAuthority I think it s simply the best lock ever. Easy to install . Clean surface on on both sides of the door. No complication . No need to worry about the weather outside since there is basically nothing . Auto Unlock when approaching the door . Still better and faster than using home key or even fingerprint . Home key could only be interesting when sharing your door access with other people .
How can I be 100.00% sure that during the setup or operation of this device, that no information is sent back to the manufacturer about my email address or physical location? Is there an "Aqara app"? Do I need this app do set up or operate this lock? Call me paranoid, but I'm not comfortable allowing unknown people in an unknown country to know details about the locks on my house. Other than this, good review. I'm eagerly awaiting the Aqara Thread sensors. This is the first RUclips video that I eagerly watched the sponsor part of the video.
@@artimkalash3347 I'm vaguely aware of that, during operation, but that doesn't tell me if, during setup, I need to update the firmware for the device using an Aqara app or anything like that.
@Penismaster471 How would manufacturers of a physical lock know anything about my home if I buy my physical lock in a store? Manufacturers don't know my physical address, so they have NO WAY to know where I am to take advantage of me. But most online services, like Google or FaceBook, know or can easily obtain my physical address. Maybe I need a therapist, but you need a school teacher.
Can I ask how you got the HomeKit guest access to work? I just got this lock installed here in Australia and don’t seem to have the option to add guests in the home app from Apple. I checked every menu possible. I would love to assign guest access codes. Currently can only do that via the Aqara app.
Is your lock working when you tap the lock/unlock tile in the home app or with Siri? My lock makes a sound like it’s locking/unlocking but the lock doesn’t actually move.
@@svth689 I’ve read on a few forums that the HomeKit guest access feature is the only HomeKit feature not available with the A100 as of yet, but that it could potentially be added with an update later down the line. Have you connected your lock to an Aqara hub to get the remote locking feature working or is it connected straight to a HomeKit hub for Siri/home app functionality?
@@queefbabe I hope they will bring it out as a software upgrade. Would be sad if not. No I don’t have a hub. Connected via Aqara app and HomeKit only. It’s a good lock otherwise.
@@svth689 Would definitely be a useful feature to have. I’ve figured out my issue as well. I was thinking that remote locking with HomeKit/Siri would engage the triple mortise bolts, I didn’t realise it just locks/unlocks the top latch. It appears the only way to engage those is to lift the handle. I agree the lock is really nice though, the only thing frustrating me is that there’s no option to turn off the auto locking feature when the door is closed. I like to keep my door unlocked during the day while I’m home.
Why is it ‘omeKey but it’s HomeKit. Very inconsistent with the dropping of certain letters. It’s very unpleasant on the ear. If you Alwyas dropped H then fair. Acceptable. But to randomly drop it here and there sounds forced and it’s uncomfortable to listen to.
Using Apple Key with these non-automatic locks is really really stupid! You use one hand to scan the phone/watch. Then you have to turn the handle manually! Why would you do that instead of scanning fingerprint and open the door with just ONE HAND?

Why is Home Key guest access missing?
Is the Schlage Encode Plus Smart WiFi Deadbolt compatible with UK doors bc it’s on UK Amazon website to buy so assume yes.
Will this lock work in AUS still even though you didnt mention them?
Homekit Smartlock without Home Key is enough for me.

Great review!

If you have access via a home key can you also assign a numerical unlock code to your Home key in case say you forgot your phone and watch in the house?
No need, just create a master passcode for this instance
Do you know if it’s going to work with the multi point locks we have in the UK? So few smart locks do.
You keep talking about the "o-map". What is that?
Does the HomeKit guest access not allow setting up schedules? Say you want to allow dog walker to access your home only between 6-7pm?
Not at the moment

Can you have express mode on the Apple Watch… but non express mode on the iphone at the same time?
Yes
