I’ve had the same experience watching movies or shows where the characters are speaking another language and I’m reading captions, but they switch to English & it takes a moment to realize that I can understand them without the captions. 😅
I had a person in my class that would often speak Spanish and while I only know a few small things in Spanish I never understood what they were saying, even when they switched to English which they did often just to confuse people. Needless to say one time we had a full conversation in English one day and it took half the conversation for my brain to compute he wasn’t speaking any Spanish so me trying to wrap my head around his words was wasted effort

I am German and Kiara actually has a pretty strong accent, while Cecilia has non.
Cecilia is basically talking in "High German", which you would here in North Germany most of the time and the further you go down the country/the map the accent gets stronger.

In the comments from CC's debut a couple of German-speaking people thought she might come from the south/west of Germany near the French border since she speaks French, but her German sounds very much like High German to me and I assume she was just one of the people (especially girls in my experience) who learned French in high school (Französisch Abi) and she just kept using it occasionally after school.

Kiara ist zwar ein Stadtkind und hat deshalb nicht so nen starken österreichischen Dialekt, aber immer, wenn sie Deutsch spricht, dauert es nur paar Sätze bis sie irgendein Wort benutzt oder eine Aussprache verwendet, bei der ich direkt merke, dass sie aus Österreich kommt^^
Ich habe mal für ne Zeit in Karlsruhe und in Stuttgart gewohnt und in meiner Erfahrung ist schwäbisch wesentlich stärker und verbreitet als der badische dialekt^^

@@Blex_040 Das stimmt, wobei ich da als jemand im Bayern-Württemberg (nahe Ulm) Grenzgebiet natürlich viel mehr schwäbisch höre und spreche. Vor allem hier aufm Dorf sitzt der Dialekt bei vielen tief und selbst bei manchen Stadtmenschen hört man ab und zu doch noch einen Funken raus

@@_MoralleAs far as I'm aware, your native language simply does not get too rusty (whatever small problems there can be are easy to get rid of) unless you never really learned it fully or basically completely abandon it for years. I, for one, mostly use English nowadays, but I have never noticed a dip in my native language.

@@Minus-One-san You absolutely can forget parts of your native language when you don't use it frequently enough. My country is bi/trilingual (1 national language, English + race's mother tongue). Because I don't use my National Language frequent enough, I actually forgot some words and phrases lol. At least the formal ones.

Thats possibile, but she’s also Austrian and despite her speaking standard German that’s not really how most Austrians speak in their daily lives. Germans of course don’t either, but Austrian is still a tiny bit different.
