Another great outdoor spot to visit is Six Sigma Winery in Lower Lake. They have a beautiful, rustic tasting room location under ancient oaks and miles of trails to hike or mountain bike. Each year, they host the Norcal high school mountain bike races in the spring which are great fun to watch. They also have a Pinzgauer tour (look it up) to their widely spread vineyards on their 4000+ acre property. You can camp on the property, too!
Great choices and one more recommendation - the Featherbed Railroad. This unique bed & breakfast is built of vintage railroad cabooses and serves a full breakfast to boot. That's an incredible lakeside resort that is absolutely unique and special. On Fridays in summer there are outdoor concerts in the park in Lakeport. And the biggest thing, rent a boat and spend some time actually ON Clear Lake. It's so big and just such a natural gem that it's worth visiting Disney's Boat Rentals and getting a boat to spend some time on the lake.
Something to consider are those stand up paddle boards. I was in Tahoe recently at Meeks Bay and a couple next to us were enjoying the water with two stand up paddle boards. I was very surprised to find them parked nest to us in a Prius and both of those boards deflated and went into two bags in that car. They came from San Diego and still had plenty of room. You can easy pack one or two with your adventures.
We stayed at the Featherbed Railroad Bed & Breakfast, where your room is a renovated old Caboose when we were in Clear Lake. It was near the lunch box museum.
I grew up vacationing at Clear Lake every summer. We would spend a week at Blue Fish Cove and getting out on the water was my favorite. Skiing, tubing, knee boarding, wake boarding were so much fun. Many great memories spent there with the family. Loved swimming in the lake as well.
I lived in Sacramento for a while and never visited Lake Country. We visited wine country, which was lots of fun, tasting wine, and the best part was eating delicious snacks with the wine. I loved that Sacramento was close to South Lake Tahoe, San Francisco and lots of beautiful and interesting areas. Lake Country is a very beautiful area and I want to visit California again someday to visit my favorite places that I've visited and places I haven't seen. I've seen quite a bit of California, but I haven't even seen Yosemite Nat'l Park. We saw Mount Shasta, and at a local restaurant near there I ordered the weirdest meatloaf I have ever seen and tasted. I think I sent it back and ordered something else, but can't remember. My favorite states are Hawaii and California. In March 2007 I visited Oahu Hawaii, so beautiful and I hiked up to the peak of Diamond Head I reside in Texas and have most of my life. When I lived in Sacramento, I sure was missing my favorite foods that they don't have in Sacramento. The Mexican food wasn't near as good, well it's Tex-Mex in Texas at most restaurants, not true Mexican food, but Tex-Mex is delicious. There are some authentic Mexican food places in Texas. Thanks for sharing. Still watching this video, while I type. Thank you for sharing.
Gorgeous views. I'm a water rat and would be swimming and paddling that whole area. I am going to need to take a 6 month vacation to visit everything in California. 😀
We have completely missed this area, even in our many trips to Oregon. And I have no idea why! It looks fabulous! Might be exploring there end of next month. Awesome job as always!
Love these tips! I’ve been come to our friends lake during summers since I was 10. We just visited Boatique and it was a great experience. We also love Chacewater and Brassfiled winery. There’s also something very nostalgic about Fosters Freeze.
Did justice to this under covered part of north-central California. Great places to sip a bottle of local wine watching a fantastic sunset over the lake. Always drink responsibly. I make sure I have a place to sleep secured before popping a cork. There are some nice RV parks and affordable motels at the southeast part of the lake. Convenient that's where the vineyards are too. Remember, this is California's biggest (Tahoe is in two states) *natural* lake. Not formed by a dam as most are. Fun to imagine native Americans and the first white explorers living around it.
I like watching alot of your videos. Thanks to the one you did for the "Loneliest road in America" I got my wife to actually take the route, but backwards from Ely, to Carson City, because of where we live, an I have to make a stop in Fresno afterwards. Thanks again for these awesome videos, an keep it up.
Thank you! This looks like an overlooked area to visit and enjoy. Usually go to state or national parks on vacation , but it seems most places are being overrun by an eager pandemic-freed public.
Sorry you missed our city of clearlake, and our historical Mini Golf that was built in 1953. Maybe next time you will come up and try golfing with your family. And you didn't mention Lower Lake Museum. Wow.
We are thinking about moving there after being priced out of Napa, losing our home in the wildfires. A local Realtor told us not to go to Clear Lake, Lucerne, Niece, but to stay on the Kelseyville, Lakeport side. Would you have any idea why ? Perhaps being 70 is better on the west side ? Or less fire danger ? Sure would appreciate a local input from a non Realtor. Thank you in advance.
@@ibberman Most of the City of Clearlake is extremely impoverished, with unimproved roads and crime. Nice and Lucerne are a completely different story, super tiny, isolated, and expensive. If you're priced out of Napa, you probably won't find a place here. Fire danger is the same as these places as anywhere else in the county, the real spot to watch out for that is Cobb. Kelseyville and Lakeport are just generally wealthier and have more to do. But Middletown and Lower Lake are nice too!
I’ve lived in CA my whole life and didn’t know this area existed. Thank you for sharing! I want to plan a trip there now. How many days did you spend there to give yourself adequate time?
I had never been either, even with 10 years of traveling CA haha. We were there for 3.5 days or so and that was a good amount of time. Depends on what you want to do though as it could be less or more haha.
@@californiathroughmylens thank you very much! That sounds like a good amount of time to see everything you showed in the video while making sure there is time to eat at all the places you mentioned. Thank you again and happy father’s day!
You can see everything in about 2 or 3 days and the restaurants he mentioned aren't the ones you want to go to with the exception of the saw shop. Juicys pizza is across the street from library park and its the best.
I loved this video! I hope to be visiting this pretty place! Thank you! May I say something about pronunciation? It is on other videos, but the word Buena is Spanish and is pronounced B'WAY-nah. Just thought you'd like to know - from an old Californian. Keep doing what you're doing. It is such a wonderful way for older folks to visit places through your adventures that they can no longer hike.
I see why they had you come! Fourth of July weekend and the lake is empty. You can't swim in it. It is as green and as thick as pea soup. There were dead fish floating in the water! We were sent to Highland Springs or Blue Lake. So sad about what's happening because of drought and the fires. :( We are going to try Blue Lake tomorrow. NOTE: There is no water in the creek at the park. :(
Lived there for 15 years. The people are fantastic, there's so much local charm. We miss it quite a bit and so many of the local business owners who had also become friends. There are always circumstances in every community that have challenges but you seek out and celebrate the positive and there is so much of that in Lake County.
@@StressLessCamping have you tried growing up here? Not much to do as an adolescent except for drugs. Not trying to be mean but I would just avoid this place if you’re a family with children. If you’re retired whatever
@@StressLessCampingnot to mention the biggest interest being the lake turning into a green puddle of Algae that smells like death. Don’t let your pet get down there lol. Going back to the topic of young people. The park? Wowwieee.
@@chaizon3053 I can’t argue with that because there aren’t many activities for younger people. I was sad to see things like the bowling alley in Lakeport leave. However there is a ton of mountain biking, hiking and other outdoor activities although I can see that not being enough.
I kind of agree with you on the leaving Ca. idea, but short of that, I hoped this would be a better area to live, than the rest of Ca. More isolated, better people ?
This is a great video. Read the comments. A lot of people didn't know about these places, and now they want to check it out. That's really cool. That's the point. If he got some comps or made some money for providing this content, more power to him. He deserves it and he's certainly paid his dues. If you're such a purist you can't enjoy content unless it's by hobbyist doing it for free, you have millions of other choices. Take your negativity somewhere else.
It does take the objectivity and honesty out of it. One will have to do their own further research for the holistic view (every place has positive and negatives).
Once you have gotten past all of the picturesque parks and walkways at all, there’s really not much left to do in town, except sit in a bar and drink beer for half the afternoon
Even with living in California my whole life there are still places to discover, really cool.
I love that about the state as well. I have spent so much time traveling CA and I always find more to see!
That’s what I said when I visited Siskiyou and Lassen peak for the first time during 4th of July✨
We spent two weeks at the Clearlake State Park. This past March. Looking forward to returning. Spent most of our time in Lakeport.
