Elden Ring is set in a dark fantasy world called the "Lands Between." The world was created by the Elden Ring, a powerful object that has been shattered, leading to chaos and turmoil. Players assume the role of the "Tarnished," a character who has been exiled and embarks on a quest to restore the Elden Ring and bring order to the world.
The game features a diverse cast of characters, including gods, giants, dragons, and other mysterious beings, each with their own motives and agendas.
Elden Ring is known for its intentionally cryptic and enigmatic storytelling style, where much of the lore is left open to interpretation and speculation. Players need to piece together clues, engage in speculative discussions with the community, and make their own interpretations to fully understand the lore of Elden Ring and its intricacies.
Elden Ring is also an action role-playing game played in a third-person perspective with gameplay focusing on combat and exploration; it features elements similar to those found in other games developed by FromSoftware, such as the Souls series, Bloodborne, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Director Hidetaka Miyazaki explained that players start with a linear opening but eventually progress to freely explore the Lands Between, including its six main areas, as well as castles, fortresses, and catacombs scattered throughout the open world map. These main areas are interconnected through a central hub that players can access later in the game's progression-similar to Firelink Shrine from Dark Souls-and are explorable using the character's mount as the main mode of transport, although a fast travel system is an available option. - Игры

A lot of secrets, like a lot of secrets, like ones where u gotta do a jump etc there seems to be a st trinas lily closeby
holy shit fam! reminds me when I translated Itherstian in Fran Bow for my Queen of Hearts theory! Great fucking job dude!
@baltasargamingshow3205 it truly is so fun isn’t it translating stuff? Thanks so much dude!!!!!!!! I have a memory like bloody dory, but if my dumb ass remembers, sure! It would be so cool if this were the case it would be so cool! I’m definitely interested dude :)
Wait Zack really?
@@theemeraldgecko310 yeah its very strange at first i was like oh trinas lily i wonder why
But almost every secret at least in limgrave so far has a trinas lily somewhere close

Thank you dude, you’re words honestly mean the world to me, thank you!
By far the best intro to ever grace my ears
I’m glad you liky🐍
When you go through the Ruin Hewn Precipice and in the Caelid Wilds you'll notice these pillars that come from the depths of the lands between all the way to the tops. I think the lands between are one giant building that was constructed by these giants. I think the large hole between the map was a comet or something that nuked a very important site of these giants. The divine towers were build by these giants. No other creatures in the lands between seem to have the capability of building these ruins that hold up the world. And the divine towers make a nice shape there.
I had no idea these pillars existed!! If you don’t mind mate, if you get the chance could you please let me know a grace that’s closest to one? Thank you for letting me know about this it’s super cool!
I think they killed the Giants WITH ice. That's how they killed the ones on the Mountaintop of the Giants, it stands to reason that Marika, the same force behind the killing of those giants, would use the same weaponry against the larger giants in in the Lands Between.
That’s a really good theory! I really dig it!
I've been asking about the gigant skulls since day one
Same! I love these guys!
Theory, Mesmer is Radagon's father. Mesmer was Elden Lord when Marika first came to the Lands Between together with him on their ships. Mesmer was Marika's general, the way Radagon would be later. Mesmer defeated the ancient giants that were there, and tought his son how to fight giants.
This is actually super cool! Only thing I can think is rady boys hair is a curse and not his natural colour!
@@theemeraldgecko310 Marika sees it as a curse because it was a sign of his father. Marika ended up hating Mesmer.
Maybe that’s why Godwyn became the golden child? Her one “pure” child
11:10 lol you used the word in the definition of the word itself
Yepppppp I didn’t want to confuse people though cause some people don’t know sol means sun :)
@@theemeraldgecko310 I meant you used the word eclipse in the definition of eclipse. "An eclipse is when the moon eclipses the sun"

@@theemeraldgecko310this made me laugh hard midworkout lol
The 'ice sun' could be referring to the eclipse... Castle Sol = Castle Sun but maybe it's really Castle Ice Sun or Castle Eclipse.
Also, have you seen the new image released yesterday? It has the same pose as Godwin's corpse, and I had a wild thought... what if Miquella figured out a way to bring Godwin back to life with the omen curse and now we have to kill him to deliver Godwin his final and permanent death. Which is what Miquella wants for Godwin according to the ghost atop Castle Sol.
That’s what I was trying to say in the video, I’m sorry if it didn’t come across!
Wait what? There was an image released yesterday!?!??!!?!!
The weapon golden epitaph gives us more info. Something about dying a truth death@@frankiefromky
@theemeraldgecko310 yeah it depicts a female(possibly) omen.
Borealis's Mist Reads: The ice Dragons were once lords of the mountaintops long ago, until they were defeated by the Fire Giants and chased from the peak.
So the Ice Dragons were the one's who ruled the mountaintops, not the so-called Ice giants. The Zamor Knights were likely servants of the Ice dragons much how the Banished Knights serve the Farum Azula Dragons. And it was The Fire Giants who chased them off, not the Ice Giants.
This is incredible! I always learn about the lore through in game stuff, I never did get this item, I’m blown away, thank you for letting me know!
@@theemeraldgecko310 No problem, the Ice Dragons are their own big a mystery as well. But there might clues in the mountaintops as to their history and maybe their battle with the Fire Giants.
I agree!! Definitely gonna look into them, video on them incoming lmao
Notice how they have pockmarks and thorns covering them. Same as Stormvale Castle.
Shit! You’re completely right dude!
Whoa, this info makes me think that Godwyn was assassinated and left at Stormveil Castle. His body is front side down and you can see his deathmark on his back. He was never buried just as Ranni wasn't. He wasn't brought to the Great Roots either, He grew there using the Great Root system and was spreading the Mark of Death with his back, infecting everything as he travelled/regressed back to his roots of origin.
Side note, ranni's moon sorcery is ice based, thus giving the moon an element of cold. An eclipse would be the combination of sun and moon, aka ice sun?
Totally agree! I was just typing out a reply to another comment and it’s got me thinking, the sun seems to be a distinct being as seen from the tablet and Japanese text at castle sol, maybe the eclipse is more than what we originally thought, maybe it is also the unity of these two beings? If this is the case, then how does Godwyn get his soul back from this? I have a few ideas, but they are as bat shit insane as they come lmao
@theemeraldgecko310 sooo... my pet theory I've thrown around for years now is that Melina is the eclipse as a unity between a part of godwyn and ranni. If godwyn was a representation of the sun, and he seems like to me as a gwyn like figure, that a combination of ranni and godwyn would be an eclipse. I have speculation and justification for my theory but in concept that's the meat of it.
Amazing theory dude! I love it, wouldn’t be surprised if it came true!!
Two years in and we STILL have new lore videos that make me think a lot about this game. This is great work!
Just imagine what doors DLC will open up
It really does, this game is so bloody good, Thank you so much dude!

I’m so pissed the total eclipse wasn’t visible where I live, it would have been so amazing to watch! Thanks so much!
It doesn't have to be Marika or even anyone related to Marika or the Golden Order. There's huge chunks of history that are simply missing.
the crucible existed before the golden order. It feels to me like these outer gods (greater will, god of rot, blood star, flame of frenzy, etc) work to get their influence into the lands between and probably other places too. The Greater Will chose the Great Tree which became the Erdtree. It's unclear if a different god was in charge of the Crucible before that or if it was its own thing and the Erdtree was simply a center of power. Honestly it's almost like the Greater Will wormed its way inside and corrupted whatever had been there before to implement its own designs.
And considering Placidusax was also lord for a god in the past that abandoned this place, perhaps even before the Crucible, its likely this cycle of lords and stuff is tied to the *tree* and not something the gods themselves normally use. It's a mechanism of the land. And when a god takes over they take over the mechanism. And when The Golden Order took power they went around wiping out other groups that had connections to other gods such as the fire giants. I'm simplifying but I want to get you in this mindset because Lordship is heavily tied to the land.
From Software likes cycles a lot. So what if the Ice Giants died BECAUSE of the Fell God. Maybe the Ice Sun was some other outer god just like how Ranni has her dark moon. So you have the ice giants and their Ice Sun who rule over what would become the fire giants. Then the Fell God comes in and causes the giants to rise up and kill the ice giants. Just like how the golden order showed up and got the trolls to betray the fire giants. There might have been more parties involved in the fire giants vs the ice giants but this feels the most cycle-y given what we know about the land. Maybe shortly after the Crucible itself started to show up and the Fire Giants got along with the Crucible therefore the Crucible took over the tree. Maybe the Fell God and the god of the Crucible took over together. You do need one hell of a fire to cause a crucible to become hot enough to perform its function so it could easily be related.
Just wanted to try and give a different perspective. you're more familiar with details so you tell me if I'm way off somewhere. I also know the timeline isn't perfect but i'm pretty sure its close.
Edit: They might also be a reference to the Giant Warriors from Nausicaa. Just read the wiki page on this.
While everyone is talking about the uterus picture bandai released you're out here translating ancient slabs
Dude I didn’t even know fromsoftware released an image until these comments, it’s the lead up to my dad’s fiftieth I’ve been MIA 🤣
14:32 Kinda reminds me of the state of Stormveil Castle. 🤔
That’s a super good point! I did think of that when I first saw it!
What if goldmask is writing in the secret language and that’s how he communicates in game
Please don’t tell anyone I said this, but I think this might be one of my favourite theories I’ve ever heard
nah he likes only moving a finger
@simonediblasi8950 he be doing some freaky shit with that finger
its probably the same language of the two fingers, seeing as how they both wiggle in the air and need another person to translate. it also helps after realizing goldmask is very closely connected with the golden order and the two fingers.
I mean the skeletons in caelid look different than the fire giant corpses, so ice giant seems to fit well to me.
I’m glad you think so :)
As the DLC nears I am treated to more and more lore videos
RUclips is finally listening 🙏
It is George RR Martin. He loves the contrast of Fire and Ice.
Yep!
My money is on Ranni's moon being the final component of the eclipse. My best guess would be to use the eclipse for cover to cross between the light and shadow realm. Perhaps attempting to sneak past the Greater Will or lower the veil? Im thinking the Ranni ending is our role in bringing the eclipse. I think time being shattered like everything else, it does not matter if the eclipse is before or after crossing between realms, it simply needs to have the opportunity. Radahn no longer holding the stars means it doesnt matter if the chicken or the egg came first. We now have a chicken and an egg.
I totally can see this being the case!!! Great theories! If this is the case, that means Ranni is in cohorts with Miquella, which is super interesting but not surprising, I mean we do after all get torrent spirt bells from Ranni and she has st Trina esc mist! Awesome stuff!
I am 100% saying all the demigods were working together, whether wittingly or unwittingly. Perhaps even the most loyal Morgott is in on it. Play both sides.
My best guess with Marika's motivation at the end was that she was truly on the fence about the Greater Will. She rose to power under its banner. During her conquest she began to see issues. She rebelled and was punished. If your god is good, you can be in service. If your god is not good, are you then a slave? I think Marika sent her kids including Godwyn to the utter depths to figure out what's really going on and make the decision themselves.
In Marika's own words. I declare mine intent, to search the depths of the Golden Order. Through understanding of the proper way, our faith, our grace, is increased. Those blissful early days of blind belief are long past. My comrades; why must ye falter?
"In Marika's own words. Hear me, Demigods. My children beloved. Make of thyselves that which ye desire. Be it a Lord. Be it a God. But should ye fail to become aught at all, ye will be forsaken. Amounting only to sacrifices..."
If the DLC proves this man true, then its official this dude must be pals with george rr martin and hidetaka miyazaki.

I've always found it weird that the zamorr fight kinda like Radagon and i believe you find his scarseal around them. Love this video!
I hadn’t noticed that but you’re completely right! That’s super odd!
Thank you so much! I’m glad you liked it!
I never noticed that either, but that's true. Holy shit
My take was the ice giants were wiped by one of the ancient meteor showers
@dowgygewdyes6597 cool theory!
If you believe that the smouldering butterfly represents mesmer, this makes perfect sense - smouldering butterflies appear at the forge of the giants
Holy shit… you’re completely right!!!!
@@theemeraldgecko310 lit the flame yesterday and was like HOLD UP, and then you dropped this! Perfect timing ;)
@emilymitchell6823 we’ve really just gone and done some funky brain connecting shit
Hephaestus and Vulcan are Mythological Gods of Fire and Forging/Smithing. Hewg's name historically came first and is an etymological progenitor to Hephaestus, Hephaestus is the equivalent to Omen in TLB, being cast out of sight due to opulence. The Estus Flask in the Souls Series is technically a Hepha-Estus Flask, containing Lordran's First Flame.
We know Marika is a Numen who arrived in the Lands Between by way of boats, they are on the Nokron stellas. The original giants/titans were killed by a comet impact that left molten earth on their towers. That is why these giant skeletons are basically mineralized.
I know that I'm late, but huge primordial ice giants, hmm, give me some Ymir vibes. All the thorn iconography used for suffering reminds me of the Christian mythos. Similarly, the theme of the father being killed by the weaker sons is widespread in ancient mythologies like Greek and Babylonian. Putting all of these together, to me, it seems like the beginning of an 'inner' creation myth where the 'primordial' ice giants, one could say 'titanic' beings, are killed by their 'progenitors'. This sin is forever marked by the thorn-filled branches, a sign of heresy and suffering.
Long post:
I always thought the giants of Caelid were ancestors of the fire giants but I never knew what they were doing in Caelid. I like the theory a lot about the connection of the giants in Caelid and the ongoing tension between the Zamor Knights and the Fire Giants. If the giants were actually Ice Giants and the Zamor knights were once part of their faction, maybe the fire and ice giants had a war in caelid long before the greater will found the lands between.
I think those skeletons are so old to fit the age where the erdtree and the greater will arrived in the lands between. From what I understood, Queen Marika waged war against the fire giants, led by Godfrey because the flame of ruin threatened her rule, her erdtree and the greater will's. What if the same thing happened to the ice giants long ago? If the flame of ruin was from the fell god and queen marika feels threatened by it, it is safe to assume the fell god, an outer god, arrived beforehand in the lands between. What if, upon its arrival, waged war against the ice giants, the only one that can extinguish the flame of ruin with their cold? And the fire giants were not so different from their descendants, the trolls, and they betrayed the ice giants to join hands with the fell god. it was after all, implied, that the giants of the mountaintop forge were once rulers of the world. ( I could be wrong on this disclaimer. I forgot where I read that or it might have just been my interpretation). And thus the town of zamor remembers this betrayal against the ice giants, maybe they worshipped the ice giants from ancient times, and thus began their long standing fued. And the golden order used this to their advantage and enticed the zamor knights to end this long war and have the knights fight alongside the golden order.
With so many outer gods like the goddess of rot and the formless mother, I was fairly certain that the greater will is not the only one who had his eyes on the lands between. The others are also vying for power for a new age to come. Initially, I thought the fell god was also one of these outer gods vying for control after the greater will. But now I'm not so convinced.
I love the theory a lot. Made me think too. I wish we can get something more about the giants in caelid in the dlc.
I translated these myself and they all say the same thing "try finger but hole"
Can confirm this is true and I’m baiting everyone🤫
12:58 they did show the finally boss in the trailer for bloodborn dlc
I don’t think they did? I could be completely wrong tho!
amazing video! would it be possible to translate the stone tablets found in marikas bedchamber, i feel like there has to be something important there, since it’s almost all we find in the queen god herselfs bedchamber. i think whatever they say would have huge impacts on the lore
Thanks so much! I’ve tried, but it seems to be actively trying to make me fail! The game blurs the tablets when you use the telescope, from what I could see it looks like this made up language is what’s used here, although I could be completely wrong, thing is I play Elden ring on PlayStation so the image quality just isn’t good enough quality to see it properly:(
Ainsel River Giants who enslaved Astel, The Natural-Born Void?!
After the seed for the Erdtree was planted, the roots made passageway and enabled the Giants to ascend to higher ground.
Ainsel and Soifra River were the Original civilizations before the Erdtree erection.
And, There's a Big Giant sitting in a Throne down there too. Guarding Ranni's naughty items she needs recovered 🤔
Ranni, Rennala and Radagon all conspired to make the Erdtree and used The Rivers for their nutrients and soil 😢
This is a super cool theory! I would like to ask though, what makes you think this is the case?
Hey @theemeraldgecko310 !
Since you're doing those deep dives into translation I'd like to bring to your attention that Loretta's helmet also have some Nordic runes on her helmet, and also the Depraved Perfumer's apron have some decoration oddly similar to binary code

The map obelisks are not futhark. The runes might be very losely based on the futhark (both old and new futharks), but it's not futhark.
I could be completely wrong but it definitely looked like futhark to me? I spent two weeks translating it, I admit I could be completely wrong though!
DLC Boss is going to be Tanith, Dancer of Blasphemy and her bifurcated head, Patches the Encouragable
Dude I’m gonna have 17 aneurysms if this is the case
I am pretty doubtful unless you actually got skills in ancient language of your translation and you didn’t really clarify what all the translations you decoded actually said, I’ll watch the video anyway.
Futhark is something I love tons, I am definitely not the best at translations, there are people out there who are far better than me, but I feel I know it enough to give a good enough translation :)
my reasoning on the brambles piercing the eyes of the corpses is simply plantlife taking the path of least resistance. aka rotting tissue in eyes, muscles etc and not trying to pierce the bones. also sidenote, the sheer size of the giants indicates that their bones were incredibly dense and strong to be able to hold their massive bodies up and not crumble under the weight. so yea, no deeper meaning.
Great idea! I absolutely love this even if it does contradict my theory! Awesome stuff dude!
@@theemeraldgecko310 thx for a response, also good theory

I wonder if there's a connection with the giant dragons, maybe both were around during Placidusax's time
Wasn’t the reason prehistoric age creatures were so big due to oxygen back then? Maybe that explains why the creatures of that age are all SO big?
Big enough of a reach to fit into the finale of Space Jam.

Very intriguing take 🤨 I can't wait till the dlc is released I'm so stoked to understand exactly was happening 👍💯💪 great vid keep it up!!!

I think the brambles are the same type of white bramble that are infecting Stormveil Castle. Edit: Also Ranni's plan might be tied to the power of ice that was forbidden long ago
I had that thought as well! If they’re the same, maybe there’s some connection between death and these callouses and brambles on the giants!
the final boss of languages to translate is the language of light in coded sword, cipher pata, whetblades and two finger sigil.
I’m going to do it, I accept you’re challenge
I highly recommend you check out the Tarnished Archaeologists video on this mystery🙌
I’ve been meaning to for so long, but I’m like a damned goldfish and I just go and forget!!
pretty sure the brambles are death blight, no? even the eclipse shotel applies the status effect which makes the connection more relevant
I has come to this conclusion too post upload! No way!?! I didn’t know the eclipse shotel applies death? That’s so cool!
maybe we'd be able to translate marika's tablets, some graves and the items that are inscribed with the elden ring language at some point.
It would be so cool to get our hands on it, maybe we’ll get some sort of cipher in the dlc? Though that is very much wishful thinking
With much less effort than your theory, I have a different theory that may enhance or at least, not completely conflict with yours.
These are Titans. They were literally the builders of the Lands Between. They built the Forge of the Giants. They built the aqueducts that bring the the celestial dew spring waters the feed to Ainsel and Siofra rivers to the the surface and fertilize the whole of the Lands Between. They built the similarly decorated stone struts and platforms and retention structures around, throughout, and upon which the very ground of the Lands Between sits. They built the land retention structures, the same black stone as the aqueducts and Forge of the Giants, that seem to be keeping the Lands Between from washing away.
These Titans built the Lands Between. Judging by the decorative motifs on the framework and forge, this was a very special garden. The Greattree was planted here to absorb grace from the dead to later be harvested and reshaped at the Forge of the Giants to create Great Runes or even the Elden Ring itself..
I really like the idea that the Land's Between started out as a garden or experiment from these original Giants. Maybe they were trying to create new life with some kind of alchemical process in the Forge of the Giants, which would make it a kind of "Crucible" in of itself. The lands themselves looked very different when these Giants were still alive.
the three was not grown in the lands between, it was grown in the DLC area
@@KpaBaPa I think the Land of Shadow was once part of the Lands Between before Marika separated it.
@@KpaBaPa The Land of Shadows was once a part of the Lands Between. I can’t say if Marika would have known or not of this proposed Titan story but she clearly had interest in the Forge of the Giants and she had Morgott ward the path there while she disconnected the Land of Shadows.
And as the Flame of Ruin is somehow still burning, I suspect the Fell God if the Flame of Ruin still lives. In fact, it is said that Marika is only “believed” to have slain the Fell God. However, I think she was Radagon at the time, in Liurnia, making babies and negotiating a pact with Rennala and the Trolls which involved the Trolls betraying the Fire Giants to allow Hoarah Loux/Godfrey to defeat them.
@@kreadapelu8813 Also, you mentioned the Great Tree, not the Erdtree. The Great Tree could have grown in the Lands Between before it got severed from the Lands of Shadow. Maybe that's what the shard of actual tree is in the Erdtree illusion.
“I know it sounds crazy”
…my dude I just came off off a video claiming Mequella IS Torrent. Not sure I’d call your theory crazy after watching that one 😂
Hey, hear me out that actually sounds like a bloody good theory
Sorry but this is a total load of nonsense. You didn't translate any intentional meaning on the part of the developers. There's no way that the markings on these tablets aren't just runes chosen purely for design purposes. You also conveniently do not present any evidence of your work because doubtless it would not hold up to scrutiny.
All I’m gonna say in response to this comment is all evidence has been cited in the video, if you had actually watched it rather than coming to assumption you’d know that, Google docs link is at the top of the pinned comment/ description
@@theemeraldgecko310 That's not evidence lmao. You provide no citations, no proof at all that the markings are based on real runes that have intentional meaning. You expect people to just take you at your word, which would be an absurd thing for anyone to do. There is not a shred of evidence anything you say is accurate.
Tarnished archeologists says a meteor hit the lands between forever ago and that's what killed the "ice giants". He also said they built the divine towers.
I’ll check it out!!!
Yeah, that's a good vid. The buttresses that get exposed everywhere the sea cuts away are nuts. A few feet of soil can be a few thousand years depending on a location. 240' tall structures sticking out of seaside bluffs that hold up ancient towers and temples and span the continent are absolutely psycho.
@@Brokentwobutton right? The divine towers form a hexagon around the "erd tree". Did these prehistoric giants create the giant's forge and something in the center map? Like is the tree even a tree or some great tower built by the giants? Or is the crucible in the center map under the erd tree? Yigdrasil? Inverted tower. Shadow lands? We are missing a massive element that is near impossible to know. So much intrigue including morality, life/death, storing power (ancestral spirits, warrior jars, the tarnished themselves), creating false beings: albunurics, silver tear husk, renalas "children", God skins. Finger slayer blade looks like the corpse of a God.
@@Brokentwobutton the cut outs of the erd tree reveal similar structure. Is it even a tree? A power plant?
Bro so many crazy top tier lore videos have been dropping. We had elden john, then melania is st. trina, now we have ice giants! Whats next!?
Godwyn was left at Stormveil Castle. He was assassinated and marked with destined death so no one dared to touch his body because he has the plague. He mutated over time at Stormveil and was eventually able to spread destined death by merging his eternal body that is curse-marked into the Great Root system therefore curse-marking all of existence.

I highly recommend for you to watch Tarnished Archaeologist's video on the Divine towers (and pretty much all their other videos tbh) where they talk about the ancient giants (which you call ice giants), the arrival of the first outer god to the Lands between the Fell god, how they built the divine towers to worship the Fell god and their eventual demise via meteor showers, because the Lands between is a literal meteor magnet
I’ll have to check it out! Thanks dude!
Pretty cool stuff.
I do think messier is gonna patch up some of the plot holes like the giants being slayed so uniquely by marikas followers and godfrey.
One thing to point out is the zamor knights could've been gladiators originally, and were instead used as l replacements for a possible 4 armed ranni mentor, astrologer ancestor race.
Forgot why, but I believe their bracelets match the barbarians or something and their items are next to other gravekeeper stuff in the code lists or something.
So keeping in mind that decision, it's reasonable to say that Miyazaki didn't want to mess with the lore too much on the mountaintops, to let the real world mythology references get some attention.
Thanks dude! Super interesting insights and theories absolutely love them, good stuff dude it’s given me a lot to think about!
Return the slab 🧟♂️
Never…
Get this, the dividing factor that killed the ice giants was the fell god himself when he created the crater and liquefied the lands between burying the titans in the very bedrock. The fell god's flame was later taken from the fire giants by mesmer's forces along with the brambles of sin.
I love this, but what makes you think this is the case?
While I’m tryna get all achievements there’s level to the devotion lol
LMAO
I always thought that radagon learned the thorn sorceries and used that to defeat fire giants
Radagon wasnt even around for the fire giants he cane after
That’s a super interesting theory!
Did he mic?
I subscribed after the first 15 seconds
Heeheheheheh I’m glad you liked it dude!
In Game of Thrones the ice dragons are said to be larger than the fire dragons, and the sea dragons are large, too. In earlier versions of the game there were evidently "sea monks" or yokai sea giants out in the water. It seems like GRR Martin swapped the dragon dynamic in Game of Thrones for a giant dynamic to the cosmology. Granted, there are giants in Game of Thrones, and there are dragons in ER, but it seems like giants are emblematic of chaos (like the Greek titans) in ER.
This is a super interesting take I haven’t seen talked about before and I’m all for it! Awesome stuff! I really need to read the song of ice and fire series been meaning to for ages!
I think its part of the cut content honestly. I mean, Radahn used to be called; "the Giant Slayer" in cut content.
But really cool theory!
Wait really!? That’s so cool! I mean maybe we’ll see this cut content in the dlc?
@@theemeraldgecko310 I hope so but probably not since this DLC is heavily focused on the theme of Crucible and Omens. But since the concept of Sin is associated, we might grasp some ideas about the subject. Oh and also the area where you fight Nox duo, in Sellia, where gigantic chair crypt is present, with its seat empty?
In the cut content, the same giant maiden sitting on the gigantic throne of Nox and Nokron is suspected to be the owner of that chair- the throne. If you place her with the right pose, she fits perfectly into the throne.
For more context, here's a video from SekiroDubi explaining the whole thing.

You’re probably right, wishful thinking lmao
That’s super interesting! I had no idea about that!
it could make sense that messmer went to war against ice giants
100%!
"It is about rock. It is about power, juice, and powder we devour!" - The Rock, brobably.
The rock definitely said this
5:22 - We know that Marika is an empyrean because of Malekith being her shadow in the same way that Blaidd is Ranni's shadow. (I forget where specifically i got that info but it was likely VaatiVidiya or Zullie the Witch so I'm confident in it's validity, though it also raises the question of where are Melania and Miquella's shadows, as they are also empyreans).
We also know that Marika is not the first god/vessel to the Elden ring due to Placidusax's existence as a previous "Elden lord", which implies he has his own god/ER vessel. (This info i also likely got from both Vaati and Zullie.)
With that information it's within the realm of possibility that there were other gods and orders between that of the Ancient Dragons' and Marika's, one of which may have been ordered by the greater will to extinguish these supersized giants.
As for why the Greater Will would want the destruction of these giants, I think it's related to the points made at 3:07 and 3:54, these supersized giants also held the capability to house an outer god like their descendants, a god which obviously would be a rival to the Greater Will.
Due to the Fell God's clear fire connections, I don't think that if the supersized giants were if fact "Ice" giants, they'd be serving the same Fell God as their descendants. So i think it would likely either be an Icy counterpart to the "Flaming" Fell God. Or, (more interestingly and more likely to me), the Fell God was once a completely different God with ice based powers, who at some point had a "fall" akin to Lucifer's becoming the "Fell" God. (I can't back up this theory with any substantial evidence outside of "it makes sense to me", though there could be evidence to it that I'm unaware of.)
Caelid reminds me of the Rauh ruins/pillars and the sunken grave area of lands of shadow with the giant animals. There’s obviously ancient ancient races of HUGE proportions given to the shear size of the animals, skeletons and most importantly the ruins and forge weapons. (Ancient meteoric gs is literally an arrow head lol)
Just as you said, people had to describe certain things and call them "literally" - and what we need to now is what the Crucible was. I am starting to think Vaatividya might be onto something with it being literally a sacrifice. It doesn't exactly explain Omens or the whole "mass of horns, tails and whatnot" - but it would fit to think that Elden Beast didn't exactly make Erdtree straight away, and that it actually had to make the Crucible to create Erdtree (or at least nourish it).
Because it's not before Godfrey killing the giants that the age of Erdtree begins, which can mean two things: Erdtree was already there but wasn't complete (or rather, Elden Ring was not powerful enough to affect giants), or, Erdtree grew only after the giants were killed. And we see skeletons, but that's not to say the brambles are not actually Erdtree's and that it used their corpses to nourish itself. And that's where the idea that the was civilization before Erdtree seems important, because that could confirm that the Erdtree needed nourishment and Elden Beast had to literally kill stuff to make Erdtree. But - how did it fight, and did it even fight itself - perhaps it needed someone to fight for it.
There's also a very important thing: Elden Ring. It's not a Ring per se, and quite possibly, it's incomplete. Which means it could actually add to my own theory that Land of Shadow is either a failed or simply already dead world the Elden Beast visited and that the Elden Ring is actually made piece by piece from many worlds that we could say Greater Will devoured, since we know the Erdtree takes in the souls, but what we also know is that it needs Catacombs to do so, meaning it's a System.
Which means, the Ice Giants might've been fighting Elden Beast before the Golden Order, before even the Erdtree grew and that the Fire Giants were an evolutionary step because they had fire that burned the brambles we see, so to kill them, steel (so to speak) was needed - and that's where Godfrey comes in. It makes little sense the brambles are then left if they are to provide nourishment, but, that is not to say there's not more to it - it could be for the souls, it could be that something grew and then was transported, though I doubt it. I personally think it's just remnants and that the brambles that grew out of the corpses simply grew out of what was left.
Also, if the Crucible is in fact blood sacrifice, perhaps flesh itself - that could also explain Crucible Knights, we don't see how they look but they have horns and such - at first, when they were created, they were useful and were seen as good. But after some time, Omens came to be, and they might've been seen as illness to the Elden Ring where the Crucible was no longer under control (after removing the Rune of Death, which means the flow of life force could've been disrupted).
Tbh I'd rather know more before I make assumptions, but the more I see the more I think it's another "Big Holy is even worse than you think" kind of thing - and that the Erdtree is in fact not the first one, and is used to take life force of worlds.
I think yow'm bloody roight, kidda.
I’m glad you think so!
“Oh great sun! Frigid sun of Sol! Surrender yourself to the eclipse! Grant life to the soulless bones!” The ghost in Castle Sol says it all in the original Japanese. The cold sun is totally a distinct thing just like the dark moon
Moxiewatts has a really cool video about the shadow world that touches on this you should check her out
That’s super interesting! It might sound like it contradicts my theory, but I don’t think it does! Maybe the sun is like the moon out of bloodborne, the moon presence is the moon, maybe the sun is the same? And as we know the dark moon is a distinct thing as well, maybe the unity of these two beings is the eclipse?
@@fireteamblueI’ll check it out!
My dude you really think that your surface level reading of dialogue that literally everyone in the game will see answers one of the deepest current theories in the game, when this dude literally translated some ancient language shit to figure this out. Stick to the armchair and sit yo ass down son lol. Old dude is just being polite
Don’t know how I got here. But this is great my man! Love it
Seriously dude thank you so much, it really means more than you know!
If you're correct in your translations, which I'm just gonna go ahead and believe to be correct because it's a cool theory, I've got a couple things to add that could be interesting to you.
Mausoleum Knights carry a shield painted with the eclipse. They also wield deathblight.
"Metal greatshield painted with a sun in eclipse. Carried by the headless mausoleum knights. The eclipsed sun, drained of color, is the protective star of soulless demigods. It aids the mausoleum knights by keeping Destined Death at bay" - note: "soulless demigods" is plural. Godwyn supposedly isn't the only soulless demigod.
Another interesting thing is the Royal Remains description: "Armory graces with gold human bones.
Worn by the unspeaking adherent of Sir Gideon the All-Knowing.
Slowly replenishes HP when HP is reduced.
It is said that the bones belong to an ancient lord - the soulless king. The lord of the lost and desperate, who was known as Ensha." Note: "the soulless king. The lord of the lost and desperate" - that almost sounds like Ensha was possibly Lord of Castle Sol at one point, maybe leading the Masoleum Knights and/or Banished Knights? Interesting that he's described as soulless at the very least.
Then there's also the possibility that Messmer has something to do with Dragon Communion. I've come up with a theory that Dragon Communion is an extension OR mockery of the power of the Crucible, drawing on primordial powers from dragons. The Dragon Communion Seal description even reads: "Formless drakeblood seal with a dragon communion crest. Enhances Dragon Communion incantations. The sacrificial devouring of the heart gives power. Indeed, Dragon Communion is too primal in nature for the term "incantation" to be appropriate.". Now, while "primal" and "primordial" don't have the same definition, in this context I think they do refer to the same concept; "Primitive means the primordial or original ones or stateless people governed solely by customs and kinship, while civilized refers to those who live their lives within states and governed by laws." Incantations are spells used by civilized beings in Elden Ring, whereas primal beings have natural arcane abilities. Now let's look at the Godskin Nobles armour description: "Nobles are the most ancient apostles who are said to have assimilated inhuman physiology. Not unlike the crucible, the Erdtree in its primordial form." - this is why they can stretch and contort their bodies, and why the Nobles have a snake like tail. Where do we find Nobles? One guarding Rannis body, whom is closely tied with Godwyn and Miquella, one in Volcano Manor doing something with Eeglays skin, and one (or multiple?) in the Dragon Temple, which also houses Banished Knights. Banished Knights use dragon communion incantations, and also happen to occupy Castle Sol (as well as other areas obviously but we're trying to focus on Castle Sol and Volcano Manor for now). As for Volcano Manor, I find it very interesting that there are various paintings depicting the Erdtree being burnt while at the same time there is already ash in the Capital when we first arrive there (go watch Tarnished Archaeologists recent video on that)
To conclude (while leaving out a LOT of my theory, this is just a quick summary) I believe Messmer was either working with Melina to burn down the Erdtree the first time, using the war against the Giants to get close enough to the flame of ruin to steal some for himself, and rebrand it as "Messmers flame" as we hear in the DLC trailer, OR Messmer IS Melina, like how Radagon IS Marika. And the reasons why I bothered to mention Dragon Communion, the Crucible and the Godskins in the first place is 1. I believe Melina is secretly the Gloam Eyed Queen, 2. There are big themes around the Crucible being shown in the DLC trailer and 3. Messmers armour resembles the Drake armour. Eleonora also wears the Drake set, and happens to be a bloody finger. I'm sure you can see where I'm going with this.
I also have a theory about one of the possible DLC locations, or at least some clues about the culture whether or not it be the land I'm thinking of. I'll post in replies if interested.
Edit: I forgot to add - I think the spears could be deathblight spears. Look at Stormveil Castle. It has the same holes that you mentioned the skulls have that people brush off as scarlet rot.
I was roaming Shaded Castle, and found a ghost that peaked my interest, so I started looking into the lore around Shaded Castle. From what the ghost told me, and from reading the descriptions of a few things, I've been able to piece together a few connections.
Ghost dialogue: "House Marais is ruined... Just deserts, for falling for that severed harpy. No surprise that guilty cretin took the castle and our storied sword."
Marais Executioner's Sword: "Storied sword of House Marais, the family of executioners who presided over the Shaded Castle. One of the legendary armaments.
Elemer of the Briar, the Bell Bearing Hunter, snatched the sword from the site of his looming execution, and furnished it with battle skills from his home of Eochaid."
Regalia of Eochaid: "Treasured sword of Eochaid, a lesser, long-vanished domain. The copper colouration is not to be confused with rust, but is a conduit for its wielder to move it by their will alone.
Swords of Eochaid dance through the skies."
These 3 things tell me that Elemer was about to be executed, but instead stole the very sword that was going to be used to execute him, and made it his own. He was able to do this because the leader of Shaded Castle left, presumably to follow Malenia, as we can see her portrait in the main hall. Some important things to point out is 1. Eochaid is described as "a long-vanished domain", and 2. "Swords of Eochaid dance through the skies.".
Some other connections:
Patches is found faking his death in Shaded Castle towards the end of his quest. He asks you give the Dancers Castanets to Tanith. The description reads: "Castanets used by dancers from foreign lands. Received from Patches.
The passionate dance comprises no seductiveness, but merely a dignified beauty."
Consorts Mask: "Mask worn by Tanith, Lady of the Volcano Manor, in the image of a foreign queen. Increases dexterity. Long ago, when Rykard first set eyes on Tanith, she was working as a dancer in a foreign land."
In the DLC trailer, we see an NPC with a similar mask. There is another scene with an NPC fighting in a dancing style. Miyazaki also stated in an interview that there is a seperate culture in the land where the DLC takes place, a land that was once a part of the Lands Between but was disconnected long ago, and this culture is what the "dancing lion" boss is based off.
All these clues lead me to believe that the DLC will take place in Eochaid
There's also an interesting painting we see in Volcano Manor that depicts a man wearing a mask similar in fashion to Taniths mask, and also appears to be wearing the Upper Class Robe "Embroidered, bright green robe worn by noble children. Donning such a robe is traditionally the child's first show of burgeoning independence." Which looks similar to the Rulers Robe "Luxurious robe worn by lords in a smaller nation. Its fine blue mantle serves to prove its wearer's status." Which goes together with the Rulers Mask " ....it also changes the appearance as well when it is equipped. Some armor pieces may be available to both genders but may be slightly different for male and female characters.
Mask in the image of a wizened sage.
Customary dress among lords in a smaller nation.
Increases faith.
Such a mask illustrates the qualities of an ideal lord: chiefly, wise and possessing a certain defanged geniality.
One at the center of society often finds these qualities most expedient."
The DLC will focus around this separate "small nation" which is known as "Eochaid". The "Realm of Shadow" is the space between the Divine Towers where the ocean appears to be elevated, ending at the waterfall, and consists of multiple landmasses that have been "plucked" from the Lands Between by Queen Marika, and hidden in her veils. Miquellas ultimate goal is to lift these veils, as we can see at the end of the trailer.
Dude this was such an incredible read, it’s given me a lot to thin about! Thank you for the incredible comment, I love the idea of ensha being a previous lord of sol, maybe in a previous age castle sol was of more importance? If that’s the case with Melina and Miquella wanting to steal it the first time around, maybe that’s why Melina is burnt and without a body, maybe it was punishment after marika caught on?
I totally agree, they look identical! If that’s the case though, that brings so many more questions….
Aidan…. This is by far my favourite theory I think I’ve ever read, this is incredible dude, there is so much that lends credence to you’re theory. I’m blown away, props dude
@@theemeraldgecko310 I appreciate you taking the time to read it 😊
@aidandavis9032 you’re very welcome, it was a pleasure to read :)
Perhaps this is what Miyazaki was talking about when he said there is one more secret that hasn't been discovered recently in an interview.
Also, I mean the setting and mythos _was_ written by George RR Martin. A song of ice and fire. Makes sense there are would be Ice giants and Fire giants.
I came.
So did I, it’s all over the screen
@@theemeraldgecko310 Ohh.... I thought that was video editting

I do like this theory.
I’m so glad!!
imo these giants were there in unknown times, long before any known storyline . Some of them have their bodies underground and they were so big that they could have terraformed the Lands Between simply by walking.
What did the Rock do to you
Secrets are secrets for a reason..
Mesmer did some work in tbr mountaintops
He Fr did some overtime
"19 inches of his impaling rod" sounds like something i did to my girlfriend last night but just on a smaller scale 😂
Love the persona 5 music!!!!!
I’m glad you liked it, love the persona 5 soundtrack!
Would love to see how you did the translations and what the direct translations are. We also do know that marika was once an empyrean and competed at some point with the Gloam Eyed Queen for godhood
Do a video on the Coded Sword / Cypher Pata Codes
Super good idea I’ll have a look into it!
@@theemeraldgecko310 also where it's placed, makes me think it has some importance. It's on the throne in the original round table hold.
@ProjectOrionGaming I totally agree! Hadn’t thought about it like this but you’re right!
i think mesmer had a part in it- all the impaley thorn imagery
Agreed! Question now though is how?
@@theemeraldgecko310 Yeah i'm wondering if Marika ordered Mesmer to do this as well as the giants in the mountaintops- but i wonder how long ago it was. So excited for all the new dlc lore :)
I love that you have always looked at this game from multiple nuanced perspectives using real references and it lead to you cracking Elden Ring's language. This is awesome, amazing, and huge Gecko. What a renowned find and congratulations! This is my new favorite video from you and it's up there for all lore videos for me as well. Etymology is the code to all of Humanity's and Elden Ring's secrets. Art is Life, Life is Art. Analogy is a Key. The Ice Giants are analogous to our Great Unconformity, a billion years of Earth's geolical history missing due to The Big Freeze. This explains the huge gaps in evolutionary steps for the game and our very own history. Marika came after the proverbial billion years. Also they're in Caelid and Calid/Callid are families of birds and butterflies/moths.
You’re making all emotional dude, thank you so much it honestly means so so much to me! Words are such a beautiful part of our world, thousands of years have culminated into the languages we have today, they are so rich in history and honestly I love it, words are like paintings to me, maybe that’s because I love writing in my free time; but in my experience it feels like a canvas where you create something new, language is the best.
I also love the small hints Fromsoftware do with their storytelling, Elden ring takes a lot of inspiration from Norse mythology that most futhsrk comes from, in Norse mythology elder futhark is the language of the gods given to oden after hanging himself on the world tree…. Sound familiar?
Thank you so much again, this comment is honestly so sweet, thank you,
Dang, you're kinda cooking my man!
Thanks man that really means the world!
It would've been the dragons that wiped out the titans
Cool theory! What makes you think that though?
@@theemeraldgecko310 Cuz in Farum Azula, the Dragons had the Elden Ring before it made its way to Marika, Placidusax being the original Elden Lord in the pre-GO era
What if the age before the dragons was the ice age of the giants and then they were defeated by the gloamed eye queens death rune which explains the death roots in the eyes of the ice giant skeletons and then the remaining giants turned to the fire god which made them the fire giants and then when the gloam eyed queen was defeated by marika and her shadow the golden order was made and purged the fire giants, ending their gene
There’s no sun In the lands between so I think the eclipse miquella wanted was the erdtree over the tree in the shadowlands. I also don’t think the shadows we see are a veil but the light of the erdtree behind the tree in the shadowlands.
You are on to some fascinating stuff here my friend! Your videos get better and better with each new post. Your original theory that the eclipse will play (or has played) a significant role in the overall lore, and ultimately, what we learn in the DLC, is seeming more and more likely. Fantastic work and another highly intriguing video!! Keep it up! 👍🏼
Thanks so much, honestly I can’t put into words how much this comment means to me! Don’t you dare go hollow!
This video is extremely quiet for some reason, I have to mute everything else on my PC to listen to this at a normal volume, safely. You might want to double check your final db before exporting
