  • Saxophone repairman Matt Stohrer of www.StohrerMusi... shows an example of how dents can be removed from a saxophone. This is not an instructional video, only an example so you can begin to understand roughly how the process works.

    How much would a dent like that cost to remove?

    Great video. I've removed dings in car doors like that. It's called Paintless Dent Repair or PDR. There are a multitude of rods with tiny ball ends, striped lights and pullers available. Unfortunately, the cool magnet trick you used in this video won't work on steel panels so you have to push around under the striped light to see where the tool is.

    This was fascinating! My King Zephyr is being restored right now. I hope it's dents come out as well as the ones in the video.

    That was so magical yet I'm vaguely disappointed that it didn't involve a giant hammer.

      me too i wanted to see a comically large hammer smack the dent and immediate vaporization of the dent

    Interesting choice using a straight rod through the C tone hole instead of a bent rod through the Eb. I'm going to have to try that next time!

    Good job! How do you go about doing this repair when it's underneath the lower protection piece that goes over the curve of the sax at the bottom?

    As always, great stuff Matt! Forgive me if you've already done this (and I'll look after I post this), but some soft soldering tutorials would be appreciated as well!

    Great video. What do you do if your dent is from the inside out, like a tech-dent?

    • @StohrerMusic
      @StohrerMusic  Год назад +1

      Push it back down with hollow tapping, and then smooth it from the inside, possibly with some further hollow tapping.

    Very masterful, Matt. Have ever used neodymium magnetic balls on inside and outside of instrument to take out dents? I know I have seen instructional videos on dent removal where the operator has a laser trained on the dent ball, and then when the ball is inside the horn, the laser marks the location of the dent ball on the outside of the horn. Would not be hard to set up in your shop.

    Thanks, another great vid ! Can you recommend which size dent ball you find most useful for alto work ? Thanks

    • @StohrerMusic
      @StohrerMusic  7 лет назад

      Saxman t the dent ball you use depends on the size and location and type of dent.

    That small dent could have been difficult if it wasn't placed perfectly on the correct spot.

    Hey Matt,
    I have a Selmer SA80 II silver plated and I would really love to clean this beauty but I can't reach between the tone holes. Do I need to take my Saxophone apart and if yes how to do it without doing damage?
