    I auto cutoff at exactly 8:00 p.m. by the cable clock ⏰. Once my neighbor left a congratulatory note on me car that she loved hearing me play. We had only recently moved in. I was mortified, not realizing she was listening 🎧 so intentionally. All practicing is NOT beautiful. She later encouraged me in person, when she realized who I was (the person that owned the car where she left her hand written note). I was re-mortified, but thanked her graciously and secretly wished I had a soundproof practice room too.

    Great video Jay!!
    My own solution was a normal practice until 22 hs (it's legal here in Argentine), and after them.. i play ONLY romantic songs.. so the neighbors are happy and no one comes to complain😂😅
    Of course, i play not loud, and close good the window, because my little music apartment beside of my house isn't soundproof😊 😊

    I bought a custom 6x5x8 booth from them a few years ago, best investment i've made so far as it's easy to move between apartments and not bother neighbors here in NYC. Only downside is with these bigger booths you need to make sure the weight of the booth won't be a problem for the floor. Sure it's portable but I've had to get a ground floor apartment everytime which sort of limited my options, especially here in NYC. Then again I have one of their bigger booths so that may not be a problem for the smaller booths. When I was thinking about purchasing the booth Guillermo, the owner, personally made time to facetime me and talk me through all my questions. Really great guy and glad to see the company growing.

      @@BradyAmerson we live in a very old house, so the basement floor was just clay and I was able to built a foundation for that room that has no connection (due to insulation) to the rest of the floor. On top of that I built the walls with bricks that had the highest density I could afford. These were isolated as well, very similar to what you would do if you were to build a house. The ceiling is about 10cm below the actual basement ceiling. It is the weak spot Along with the door) as it is made of different layers of wooden plates and isolation and simply not as absorbent as the massive walls. So this room has no connection to the rest of the house. Also, I made sure to avoid 90 degree angles so that the sound doesn't bounce from one wall to the next and I think this had an impact on the acoustics inside the room which are pretty good.

    Jay, thanks for the very informative video! I am considering a Studiobricks booth for practicing vocals and acoustic guitar in an apartment without disturbing my neighbors. My concern is that the space would be too dead for me to hear the actual tone of my voice and guitar. With the reflector panels you installed, can you simulate a decent sounding live space for practicing, without having to use headphones and some kind of reverb?

    I have one just like yours and I love it! It sounds good, it's easy to assemble, stylish, and let me practice and record whenever I want. I'd recorded baritone, alto, tenor and flute with all sounding great, besides that it also works for my wife voice-over recordings. I've made some tests to where place mics and eq and now I have presets for the recordings. Compared to other booths it's much better, well built, eco-friendly, and better to stay hours inside. Totally worth the price. It is really a happiness capsule🎷

      Is there enough room to play the flute comfortably?... is the width too restrictive?...I'd need enough space to be able to play alto flute so maybe the XXL would be the better option as this one may be just a little too small.

    I spent hours and hours searching the internet over lockdown for the right solution and not a single review online was clear enough as to whether studio bricks is as effective as it claims to be. Regardless I ended up purchasing one half way through lockdown and it is touch down best money I have ever spent. Great that there is a clear review out there now to help players take the decision!
    Only downside in my opinion is the overall weight of the unit. It’s all great if you live in a relatively new build. I have moved in a Victorian house since the purchase and until I build a garden office the booth is sitting in storage as the floor won’t take the weight 😭

    • @KYRIsax
      @KYRIsax Год назад

      @@axe4sax651 I did look into KUBE as well as a few others including DYIing my own solution. KUBE weighs exactly the same as Studiobricks but comes in less pieces (ie. each piece is heavier) and has a very different finish as you know. Portability was number one priority for me, but the look and feel of the booth was equally important to me as I was intending to keep it in my home office or even the living room. Both solutions provide a very similar dB reduction to sound once doors are shut. The best advise I can give is to write to both BlackCat Music, the Uks Distributor of Studiobricks (who are lovely by the way) as well as KUBE and ask if they have a client near you who has one of their booths for you to go and see/experience. You would be surprised how many schools/music shops have them. Failing this, I am sure there will be a trade show nearby at some point in the year you can go in and meet the team/see the booths in real life. Feel free to message me on IG and we can chat more about them if you need! They are life changing!

    Jay, had you considered any other booths brands eg Whisper Rooms, Kube etc? They are all pretty expensive but the killer factor for a non professional musician is tax. I could just about swallow +£7k but when you add the £1500 VAT (20% UK) that I can't claim back, that ends up a bit too much.
    I've DIY'd one in the past with thick MDF+plasterboard+rockwool in my apartment spare room. It was really really heavy and - I was lucky I didn't end up in the downstairs apartments bedroom! And it was a nightmare to dismantle when I moved - something that needs to be taken into consideration. Life is too short to be going through all that again.

    It looks extremely well designed an constructed. Wow.
    Often sound insulation can be directional - does it keep your daughter's voice out too - sometimes girls with high-pitched voices, when playing, can be loud and have penetrating voices.
    Has the manufacturer considered a larger size than this one, with the same insulation properties, that you could build this one into again, so it's absolutely totally sound proof?
    It already was impressive, really, so the last question is rather hypothetical.

    I love that you used a baritone for the test. I may have to build something like this. When I practice, I am deep in the basement, and my wife is in the far corner of the upper floor wearing headphones. The room I am in has some extra insulation, but that is it, and I am sure that she would appreciate some extra soundproofing. She enjoys the music, but hearing the same thing over and over again every day does get a little tiresome.

    For all the people asking for prices, there is a search engine named google, basically you type there things you want to know and in one click you pretty much get an answer: the booth costs between 6.500 - 8.000 €.

    Only reduces 45db when any sax is easily pushing 100db…Not worth

    • @bettersax
      @bettersax  Год назад +1

      Maybe, but if you Google 55db...
      55 dB is a level that describes moderate to soft sounds. In fact, it is comparable to a quiet home environment, a residential street, or a normal conversation between two people.

    • @q12aw50
      @q12aw50 Год назад

      Decibels are EXTREMELY exponential. 100 db is A LOT louder that 55 db compared to 55 db to 10. 55 db is described as background noise. 100 db is describes as a *motorcycle*
