I still love Ian Gillan’s voice. He’s been my favorite singer since 1969. Awesome voice. Roger and Paicey are still great too. Don is very accomplished so is Simon. I do miss Jon Lord and Steve Morse. Ritchie is a fantastic guitarist but his personality would drive me crazy. Purple is coming to Michigan in August, I’m hoping I’ll be able to see them perform again. Unfortunately both of my retinas detached in 2016. It actually had opened on August 19th. Ian Gillan’s birthday. I have very poor vision now. Hopefully my brother will take me to see Purple. ❤❤❤❤😊
Sounds like you have a deep appreciation for Deep Purple! Ian Gillan's voice is indeed legendary. It's understandable to miss Jon Lord and Steve Morse, they brought something special to the band. The beginning of Simon’s solo has a touching echo to Steve Morse with the violin touches, and, especially the quote of Steve’s shuttle Challenger-inspired “Contact Lost”. And then promptly says: “Hullo! My name is Simon McBride. And I love my job!” :)

I saw Blackmore with Rainbow '82 and 8x with Deep Purple '85 and '87. I saw Morse '87 with Kansas. Also Satriani I saw at Flyinng in a blue Dream-Tour. I have to see McBride with Deep Purple sometime; what a Master, this Simon

Ich habe Purple 1973 im Berliner Sportpalast live erlebt. Schön daß es die Band noch gibt. Alle Gitarristen waren gut im Laufe der Jahrzehnte. Gott sei Dank Leben und spielen noch drei aus der Urbesetzung . Schlagzeug, Bass und Gesang. 🌅🙏
Aus der Urbesetzung ist nur noch der Drummer geblieben. In der Urbestzung (MK I) waren am Bass, Niki Simper und Gesang, Rod Evens. Gillan ( Gesang) und Glover (Bass) sind aus der Besetzung (MK II) der erfolgreichsten Besetzung Mit Gillan, Glover, Lord, Blackmore, Paice.
Simon is the kick in the ass they needed since Blackmore's departure.. I loved Steve but never in Purple

Unfortunately, I have to agree. I will always remember the concert in Zurich in 1985. The most beautiful concert of my life. Ritchie playing bass, Roger on guitar and something special in the air.
I've always enjoyed Roger's bass playing but have never seen him play guitar, did he do quite well?

It was the second (additional) concert at ZH. Almost 40 years have passed and I still have a ticket. The atmosphere was amazing, Roger played the song "Smoke on the water" on the guitar. The atmosphere in the group was terrible, but it was wonderful on stage. I was 22 years old, I was from the Eastern Bloc and I felt as if I had met God. Ian appeared with Roger after the concert, they were a few meters away from us. I couldn't say a word from the impression. .He asked for a ticket, I was offered $800 and I didn't sell it. In Poland it was 3 or 4 years of work. Dreams are not sold.

@@MrFchankI agree. I love Ritchie as a guitarist but he played sometimes incoherently and nonsensically live, slapping on the fretboard and such and just making random, non musical noises.

What are peoples' thoughts on the new guitarist Simon McBride ? I have never heard him before. He's pretty good I reckon. Hopefully at least as good as Steve Morse.
He's a great player, used to see him quite regularly gigging around Belfast in Sweet Savage (Vivian Campbell's old band). I liked Steve but I prefer the way Simon plays the old stuff pretty much as the record. I love his sound, it's really clear and precise. He's proving to be a great fit in Deep Purple....he played with Don Airey's solo and and Gillan's solo band so I guess he was the obvious choice. Good luck to him.
Boring
I much prefer his tone to Steve's. It's more rocky and gutsy. Doesn't hurt that Gary Moore is my favourite guitarist ever and Simon isn't just from Northern Ireland but a serious student of Gary's playing. Fun fact: Both Don Airey and Ian Paice were in Gary's band in the 80s.

Don Airey and Simon McBride are very good musicians and certainly good composers, but on stage, it is another thing. I loved Deep Purple when, on stage, you never knew what was going to happen from one second to another. That is exactly the spirit, the concept, the soul of this band. Today, everything is too predictable. Every night exactly the same thing. It is becoming boring, as this guitar solo. A sort of technical demonstration without any emotion. Sorry.

Вот такое же ощущение. Техника хорошая, а с импровизацией так себе. Стив классно импровизировал, хотя имхо и в стиле не совсем подходящем ДП

TROPPO EFFETTO!!! Con un sustain così lungo tutto è più semplice.Sembrano diventati un gruppo prog.... lontanissimi da quello che erano! Da quando c'è sto chitarrista qua .... sono irriconoscibili. Bravissimi, ma dei Deep Purple c'è rimasto molto poco musicalmente parlando. Non mi piace questo cambiamento stravolgente.
