I got my low range gears installed today, they were out of bearings at my hobby shop and yes I understand your frustration about taking the whole truck apart 👍
to be fair you dont need any grease with the composite gears its not metal on metal and wont rust either. factory build grease doesnt really do anything at all but create a mess. now if they were metal gears that would be a different story and when you use bearings yea slap some grease on either side of them suckers but the composite gears dont need any grease.
leaving out the bearings i bet was deliberate, it is such an involved job that if you are going to do it you may as well just get they other upgrades while you are at it. most if not all can be done along side of the bearings to make taking the whole damn thing worth while, i for sure will be doing majority of the work i take on when i decide to upgrade the bearings.
For a slow light crawler I think for my own needs I’d be ok with leaving the bushings in especially if it’s gonna get wet. That low gear mod is definitely worth it though! Can’t believe Traxxas is letting these leave the factory without greasing those gears! Makes me think their probably being produced by someone else who’s QC is not priority. Traxxas should be notified and let know that none of these gears have a lick of grease on them. Wicked eye any though! Great job Brent tearing this down for us. Thank you 🙏🏻!😁
Thank you Rob I wonder why so many people think you can't get bearings in the water lol all my crawlers have bearings and most double as submarines 😅😅 I think they must be using un sealed bearings all one ten crawlers from Traxxas are water proof with bearings just wondering I have had some interesting comments on the subject thank you for watching my friend
@@AdventureTimeRC water still can get behind sheathing and if not adequately maintained can cause corrosion and possible binding. Not everyone has time to oil or coat bearing casing in oil to keep rust off. With brass there is no real maintenance until they wear out. For instance my son has this general Lee Kyosho MK2 he likes to use in the winter. We use fast eddy sealed bearings in it. First two years he used on the snowy roads and I’m sure sand and salty roads. Even though I cleaned the car well and got all the grime off and out of his car , some of his bearings would still seize even though they were supposedly sealed come spring time. I asked around why? Are they sealed? found that many people made sure their bearings were clean and coated in oil when they put away an rc they weren’t gonna use for a while. Since I’ve been doing that I haven’t had any seized bearings. I do it now to anything that spends a lot of time in the water or sand/ salt and calcium chloride. Maybe I got a bad set two years in a row . With a super light weight truck like this as it comes, brass bushings will take quite some time to wear out. And their is no corrosion so less need for maintenance on that part of the truck. Just my experience . Take care my friend and have a great week!✌🏻
Nice info. Thanks for sharing and agree about RTR without bearings. They did the same on the LaTrax Rally. A bit annoying but understand trying to keep price point down. Lots of torque not. Wow.
Glad to know about the lack of grease. I'll have to get mine apart and add some grease. On the driveshafts, you could put a piece of heat shrink around it to hold in the pins.
Hi! Good video. For me the bushings issue coming from an rtr at 200$ canadian is not a problem when we see the quality of this little truck. But it’s bad to sell it all dry! Bearings are in, some grease to and my defender is much smoother than before. I will wait before putting in my low gears set. Not sure i want it slower for now. Again great video 👍
Hi there Brent, a great updated guide to the newest Traxxas release, I’m so surprised that Traxxas have not greased axels and gearboxes and not provided bearings! For the premium price of the Traxxas, that this quite bad from Traxxas, this RC hasn’t yet been released in the UK, but retailers are listing them ready for £180, but realistically, it’s much closer to £220, by the time you purchase bearings. Take care and best wishes to you all 😁😊😉
I was surprised to John I thought it would have bearings and grease that was the disappointment but that aside I do like it and really enjoy driving it
Yeah its going to take a while to wear down but any metal on metal or moving part creates friction heat and wear just a small bit of grease would greatly improve the life time
I bought the low range motor transmission set up and the bearings were already in it and the reason I know this is because I made sure I put my grease in there

@@AdventureTimeRC I'm not in any rush to add bearings yet. I plan to start with the Traxxas upgrades..not sure what yet. Trailer, weight down low etc. I'll be watching so as to get ideas. Happy Rcing!
I have heard a piece of shrink tubing over those axle pins fixes the o-ring issue with these. I am concerned about dry differentials, a bit of silicone grease goes a long way there. As far as bearings vs bushings, my take on the subject is this vehicle is supposed to be a low speed crawler, not a Slash. My point? It's not supposed to be a high speed demon. Brass bushings are fine in that type of application and actually are less maintenance compaired to bearings concerning dust and dirt egress. Brass bushings have been used for centuries in huge ship shafts and work fine. I intend to change the stock gearing to the lower reduction gears and will be lubing those differentials. I believe the Brass wheel inserts and bead locks are a must for this vehicle.
That's a little disappointing I'd kind of expect more from traxxas we pay good money for them to find out it's only plastic and bushes It should have bearings and grease but I'll still look at buying one thank you for being so honest about this stuff you could have just put them in and made out there the greatest thing since sliced bread appreciate your honesty 👊and wisdom
You’d be payin at least $180 for bearings on the truck from factory, they wanted to keep price low to sell more units. 98% of people won’t notice the difference with bearings and since it’s waterproof it makes it almost maintenance free… you saw how annoying it is to fully tear this thing down, now ya want bearings to replace and maintain 😵💫 I guess just keep it outta the elements but I like doin some scale water crossings 🤪

I think it’s for ease of use along with keeping the price low.
