- This video shows the phenomenal growth and progression of Lee Taemin (a soloist, and a member of SHINee and SuperM) throughout the years. He went from a 0 to becoming a main vocalist and a soloist. From being a weak singer to nailing difficult notes and pulling off other challenging parts is no small feat. Get to know his journey, the effort he made and the challenges he faced to get to where he is today.
Taemin was never tone deaf. I was a music major vocalist in college. He was going through what many do when the voice is changing through puberty. The voice doesn't always completely change right away. He is an amazing vocalist with something many Asians don't have...great vibrato. I love his voice. One of the best singers out of Korea. I discovered him late on but was blown away by his singing and dancing. Rise is a masterpiece and showed how well he actually sings. Can't believe people were talking about him like this when he was young. He is my favorite singer from Korea. He is a superstar.
Taemin is living proof that you don't just become successful in kpop if you come from the "Big 3". You have to work your butt off and that's what he did, he's the Ace of SM, and the Ace of kpop

That's true for 1st and 2nd gen when the foundation wasn't completely set but at this point they're so established that you will be famous right at debut. Doesn't mean they don't deserve it and the had to work extremely hard during trainee years so they are more than qualified
The best thing about his voice is you can really feel the emotions through it,shows his 110% sincerity towards his singing(Jonghyun even said that taemin is really consistent with practice and even surprises them with his improvement)
Absolutely stunning! His ballads brings tears. I'm glad he didn't listen to those who said to quit and kept fighting for his dream. 🥰
Many praises Taemin for his dance skills and his performance but his talented in singing also. I hope that people will notice that.

Taemin's vocal so unique and different among another main vocalist in SMent. He own his style in vocal although haters said he was tone deaf. He is so talented in dance, vocal and rapping too

He was never tone deaf. Tone deaf is someone who can't sing. He was just undergoing puberty. But he always had impressive vocals.

Taemin has beautiful voice even when they just debuted.
Despite him having few lines in SHINee World album, I would repeat his parts several times. And in every comeback, his parts increased eventually showing his improvements. I'm so happy he never stopped improving when he finally get more lines. Now he's even capable of having concerts and arena tours by himself. He's a true inspiration.
Thank you! People always says ''look at taemin" when they bragging on SM vocal teachers, but his continuous efforts and hard work play the most important role! plus he actively seeking for input from professionals (when he did immortal songs 2, he also called yesung for advice), this is why I respect taemin so much, he really knows WHAT he wants and HOW to get it.
Taemin took his own iniative to find and get lessons from the vocal teacher I mentioned in this vid. She isn't even from SM. She's an independent singer-songwriter, vocal coach and college professor. She once complained SM stole Kyuhyun from her. She trains alot of non-SM singers (John Park, KimBumsoo, Seo In Young) and including Junsu (who is ex-SM/obviously on bad terms with SM, he still got his lesson from this lady after lawsuit with SM). The only ones from SM - Kyuhyun, Luna(at the time) and Taemin.

At 12:10 "Rise" is such symbolic song that represents him and his whole career (representative song to describe him."Rise" as in rise against all odds) and it's one of his best songs and performances. I Love this vid. You did an excellent job capturing and detailing his whole singing career and talent including the challenges he faced as well as some information that is not widely known about him - his family background, his vocal coach, his efforts and struggles, etc.

Taemin's situation first: I am proud of him because for heaven's sake he has tried so hard, he was not the first soloist because he was spoiled but because he was a fighter. Second: it saddens me at the same time, because no one will see the effort just by watching him, they think that a great singer is the one who stands yelling and making beautiful sounds, but Taemin sings with an emotion and feeling, that is what makes a singer an artist. Blessed God he is a soloist because people tend to connect more with onew's and jonghyun's voices who are born singers. In the groups it is expected that everyone sings the same, dances the same, but there are differences, because there are more natural talents. But Taemin has a great advantage: he stands on a stage and gives you the best performance of your life, because he has it all, he is like a snake, captivating and poisonous because he leaves you paralyzed. I can easily say I am proud to be a fan of Taemin. Not lightly, but as an inspiration. I love his beautifully pleasing voice and his powerful dancing skills. LEE TAEMIN IS THE DEFINITION OF ART.

He wasn't deaf or tone deaf, as a singer and musician I can say there is no cure for amusia or tone deafness because you yourself can't tell you are doing something wrong. He was going through puberty.

and if there were people who told him that he was not going to be able to sing or did not have the qualities to be a vocalist

Taemin is really so talented. Became the main dancer of Shinee at 15, then was promoted to main vocalist at 20 and it was all due to his hard work and dedication! Love his latest release, Criminal, as well!
He has such a pretty voice even early on obviously he needed work and he was a teen ager in puberty but why were people laughing that’s so mean? To be fair Taemin was laughing too.

Honestly it's not like he was bad at singing during the old times. It's just that he sings with less power and more breathyness, he probably wasn't confident in belting and wasn't confident in his own vocals (common issue for most beginner vocalists). After lots of practice and confidence building, he started gradually singing powerfully.
For the ears of listeners who doesn't understand vocals (regular people), belting/singing powerfully + high notes = good singer. This is a very common (yet misleading) perception especially when it comes to vocal talent competitions on TV or in general.
I love your video, thank you so much for making it. Yes, Taemin has an amazingly good and beautiful voice. His voice even more than his dancing is something that draws me into his music. After all when I listen to his music at home or in my car (and I listen to it every day) I don’t see him dancing, I only focus on his hauntingly beautiful voice. It’s his ballads like Itsuka Kokode and Sekai De Ichiban Aishita Hito that made me bawl my eyes on his concerts. I believe he has an incredible gift to move people’s hearts with his angel-like singing. I love him, he is my one and only artist I will never stop listening to.

Tone deaf people won't be able to recognize the difference in pitch between different notes. And Taemin is definirely not cause he dances and plays the piano so well even at an ealier age. People just uses the term loosely or incorrectly.

Yes, I agree with the others here. I always bristle at the term "tone deaf" because it is inaccurate and irrelevant. At 14, Taemin was just beginning to train his ear and voice, and the result of his hard work, innate musicality, and dedication is TAEMIN, who brings so much beauty and joy to the world.

I didn't notice the stuggle in 2010 he is so inspiring
People always only give credit to SM about Taemin's vocal improvements not knowing that its actually mostly Taemin's own initiative to push himself. He worked hard, sacrificed his own sleeping hours, and even practiced so many times per day. 99% his effort. He took his own iniative to find and get lessons from the vocal teacher I mentioned in this vid. She isn't even from SM. She's an independent singer-songwriter, vocal coach and college professor. She once complained SM stole Kyuhyun from her. Most of her students are non-SM vocalists like John Park, Kim Bumsoo, Seo In Young, etc. including Junsu (who is ex-SM/obviously not on good terms with SM) who still got lesson from her post SM lawsuit/TVXQ split. The only ones from SM who trains/trained under her are/were Kyuhyun, Luna, and Taemin. If Taemin's improvement was all due to SM, we would've gotten a bunch of vocal improvement examples from SM at the same level as Taemin but yet only Taemin who stood out and considered the bar and the blueprint with the most drastic and legendary improvement not just in SM but the whole Kpop industry. Sure alot SM idols improved but no one even comes close near to Taemin's level.
Thank you. I know Taem's improvement has a lot to do with his own will to better himself and his outstanding focus to achieve his goal. An artist who is very passionate and dedicated to his craft.

Lets be honest here Even back then he is not that bad to the extent where he could be labeled as TONE DEAF. He was OKAY back then. I mean his voice isnt the type to captivate someone by his voice but he was OKAY and NOT BAD AT ALL but maybe we can call him as AVERAGE. But its also true that he drastically improved. Because now so many people captivated by his voice at first listen
