  • The world's tallest building, Burj Khalifa, is among a series of towers on 8 Boulevard Walk, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) which also houses a series of other towers.
On 7/11/2022 morning, fire broke out in a 35-story high-rise building near the world's tallest building, Burj Khalifa. The blaze started around 2:30 a.m., with housekeepers and building guards racing through its floors to check apartments on each floor. Visuals of the incident recorded one side of the 35 storey tower was on fire with the blaze racing up the side of the structure in the same way seen in other blazes fueled by flammable siding material. Emergency workers brought the fire under control, and no more details on the damage caused have been shared. It wasn't immediately clear if there were any injuries in the blaze. However, Dubai Civil Defense later said that all the building’s residents had been safely evacuated without injuries. Black char marks after the fire could be spotted, spread on the building. A resident said the officials planned to replace the cladding. However, that cladding was not replaced across the entire building. Associated Press (AP) said Dubai police did not immediately acknowledge the blaze. Emaar Properties, the developer behind 8 Boulevard Walk and the nearby Burj Khalifa, did not respond to requests for comment about the building’s cladding. A letter sent by Emaar to tenants of the building said “a thorough investigation is underway” into the blaze and that residents only can be let back in after authorities give the all clear.
As per the official data quoted by UAE's National News, "Nine persons have died and 89 were injured in 2,090 building fires in the UAE in 2021." There has been no respite in fire incidents this year. Last month, fire broke out at Caesars Restaurant building, causing major damage. Fire incidents in skyscraper-studded Dubai revives questions about the safety measures and the cladding material being used in buildings.
CORRECTION: Nine persons have died and 89 were injured in 2,090 building fires in the UAE in 2021 and not Dubai.
