If its a soundcheck, its probably the last before the show, when the sound basically was in place, but as a sound engineer myself, this would have beeen my dream sound check, everything is perfect in this production, and Ninet would have made me cry for making it one of the happiest days of my life being part of it

My guess is because the song is about a woman, who is all alone in her house, always facing the loss of her loved ones,
meanwhile, the group is performing the song about her, in a hall that is all alone.
Somehow it makes the story even more heart-breaking.

Can confirm -although at 7:35 (of this take) it rebounds in one hell of a hopeful and optimistic tapestry that seems to even-things out a bit -IMO . I figure some of Wilsons music prepares you for grieving if you are fortunate enough to not have lost a real close loved one.

It's seems that canned music is what people have learned to consume. I quit listening to the radio many years ago when they just played the same songs over and over. I lived pink Floyd but hated only hearing another brick in the wall every other song. Then I started going to the"weird bands" locally that were in no way weird. You will never hear this work if art on and mainstream radio. It's a shame. Music should make you feel. I could go on but I think I'm preaching to the choir here. Peace, my porcupine tree loving friends.

I was my father's carer for three years after my mother died. When he died I had no idea why I was alive. At one point I put a pair of his pyjamas in his bed and I used to take them drinks (he hadn't been able to eat for his last few weeks) and read to them. I moved on - he died twenty eight years, six months and twenty seven days ago. But in a way, I haven't moved on at all. I bought him a little bell to keep beside him for the rare occasions when I wasn't in his room with him and he needed anything. Even now, if I knock his bell and it rings, I can't help but call out, "Coming."
It was hell, but I am very glad I had the opportunity to be there for him.

They have got everything right, the music, the singing and the video are just so spot on. I wouldn't change a thing. It amazes me how once in a blue moon I find something like this, that I never heard of before and just wonder how it's possible that something so good isn't widely known about, that's criminal. The hook that starts at 06:14 is quite possibly the most hauntingly beautiful piece of music I've ever heard. With Ninet's vocals backed by the long, sweeping guitars it screams despair, reaching the breakingpoint, yet also perseverance and strength. It's astonishing.

Same experience here. I hadn't seen the video before and watching it behind the band just struck a chord, especially being a father of two boys. Such a haunting, intense song! As I was wiping my eyes I noticed many others doing the same, so we weren't alone. Happy Returns was another moment that just hit me hard. Those lyrics, that melody and the solo. So freaking intense (and depressing), especially live!

@@lemas156 HCE tour, he played the whole album in a 300 years old theater in Cremona. Perfect acoustic, fantastic atmosphere, an enthralled public. I sang Happy Returns in unison with a girl standing before me. I kinda sang in her hair, the old theater's stalls were so close. Didn't see her face, I was behind her, but I felt such closeness, a sense of intimacy born from a shared emotion. When it ended, I had tears in my eyes. Didn't want to break the moment by seeing her face, so I left hurriedly just after the gig ended. Girl, wherever you are, thank you for that moment =)

Ah the beauty of social media and the internet.... I’d never even heard of this Steven Wilson guy about half an hour ago. I randomly happened upon a link on RUclips to a Roland drum clinic by Craig Blundell (whom I had also never heard of), discovered that he’d played in some prog rock band with Nick Beggs from Kajagoogoo back in the day, thought “that sounds intriguing” and now I’m on Amazon ordering the Blu-ray of this concert!

John Rhodes: Great comment. There is Porcupine Tree and Blackfield to catch up on for starters. The PT work is mindbogglingly great and so is the Blackfield project for that matter. The latter tends to be more subdued stuff. Enjoy....Steven is a genius if there ever was one.

I came across PT after seeing King Crimson. I had heard of the band, but never the music. I think I thought it was another Seattle band or something. But watching Gavin Harrison play that night made me look deeper at him. I came across the video for Anesthetize, then Russia On Ice. I kept seeing the videos for SW but wanted to absorb the PT before I checked out the solo guy. Then I saw he was coming to ATL in concert. Immersion.

She is a force of nature. It makes me reminisce of Ann Wilson during the 70's, in terms of Ninet's raw power, range and charisma. That this was done as warm up to what I am sure must have been an amazing show...oof. Ninet's soul is pouring out - what an incredible voice. The story is so sad that I can't experience this song too often, yet it is so beautiful and relevant to the world we live in that I can't stop listening to it. "Routine"
What do I do with all the children's clothes
Such tiny things that still smell of them
And the footprints in the hallway
Onto my knees scrub them away
And how to be of use make the tea and the soup
All of their favorites throw them away
And all their schoolbooks and the running shoes
Washing and cleaning the dirty steel sink
    Routine keeps me in line
    Helps me pass the time
    Concentrate my mind
    Helps me to sleep
And keep making beds and keep the cat fed
Open the Windows let the air in
And keep the house clean and keep the routine
Paintings they make still stuck to the fridge
    Keep cleaning keep ironing
Cooking their meals on the stainless steel hob
    Keep washing keep scrubbing
Long until the dark comes to bruise the sky
Deep in the debt to night
    Routine keeps me in line
    Helps me pass the time
    Helps me to sleep
    Routine keeps me in line
    Helps me pass the time
    Helps me to sleep
    The most beautiful morning forever
Like the ones from far off, far off away
With the hum of the bees in the jasmine sway
    Don't ever let go
    Try to let go
    Don't ever let go
    Try to let go
    Don't ever......
