    Just bought a Slant Sig 7* second hand. Brilliant mouthpiece. You just want to keep on playing it because it does what you want it to do. I use my Rovner light ligature with it, works great. Very free blowing, nice consistent, steady jazz sound. You can also push it to a more contemporary sound. Versatile I think is the right description here.

      Glad you are enjoying it Timo. I think the rover is a good combo with it.

    Nigel, I bought one of those tenor slant sigs 8. One of the best mouthpieces in my bag.

      As you know I bought one 7* a week ago and I LOVE it! You praised its versatility and this is exactly what the mouthpiece gives you.

    Hi There, could I ask what ligature you use on the Slant Sig 2 ? I'm struggling to obtain the enlightened version.

    Hiya Nigel I don’t suppose you’d be interested in selling the HR Ambika would you ? You’re only up the road from me….

    What horn is that- the black tenor? You have a very classy sound on all the mouthpieces.

      Thanks Bob, I’m playing on a Dave Guardala Tenor that I’ve had for years. Good solid horn.

    its a good sound, , my choice for the slant copy was with Johannes Gerber, but i watched this video for the Ambiks demo, Nigel do you still like the Ambika, is it worth getting

      +daddycavefish Hi, I still like the Ambika and have used it for loads of recording but the Slant Sig is my main mpce now. I like the extra bit of edge to the sound.

    Still relatively new to the sax and mouthpiece world and still have to work at understanding the terms and numbering systems. I've gone to thousands of an inch measurements because that seems to get me to an "apples to apples" comparison. From that I've learned that right now, my sweet spot appears to be between 85 and 95 depending on the mpc and its characteristics - baffle etc. Did the paperwork with the TW 8 say what the opening measurement is?

      @McGillMusicSaxSchool  7 лет назад

      +Craig Miller Hi Craig, good question. I don't know the measurement but you could reach out to Theo Wanne through their site for more info.

      Hi Craig, Bryan from Theo Wanne™ here. The Slant Sig 8 is a .110". We also make a 7*, at .105"

    Nigel what reed are you using with the Slant Sig?

    • @McGillMusicSaxSchool
      @McGillMusicSaxSchool  3 года назад +2

      I’m using a Legere Signature 2.5 on this video I think. Now I’m playing the Legere American Cut.

    Sounds really good Nigel ! But I don’t think that such an overpriced mouthpiece is needed!!

    which one is better this one or durga?

    • @McGillMusicSaxSchool
      @McGillMusicSaxSchool  6 лет назад

      Hey Malvin. It really depends on the sound you are going for. I like the Slant Sig for a darker sound (good for intimate gigs or big band / jazz playing). The Durga has great projection and a huge sound - great for louder playing and commercial / funk / pop gigs in my opinion.

    What ligatures would be recommended on this mouthpiece?

    • @McGillMusicSaxSchool
      @McGillMusicSaxSchool  6 лет назад

      Good question Sam. Anything that lets the reed vibrate well will do. I'm using a Theo Wanne ligature which works great. I have also used a Silverstein works original lig (I"m a big fan of these). Check out this video where I talk about some of the ligatures I have used: ruclips.net/video/ZMc5HSCuueE/видео.html

      McGill Music Sax School thanks so much for the response and for this video! It actually motivated me to go ahead and order a slant sig and I’ve ended up pairing it with my François Louis ligature. I’m transitioning from my Otto link super tone master, and can say that the difference is astonishing. I’m absolutely in love with the Slant sig!

    I've been looking for a tenor mouthpiece that gives a dark, film noir studio type sound. Most mouthpieces sound too hallow but this is this slant C is the closest I've heard to what I'm looking for. do you have any advice for something that is ever closer than this mouth piece?

    • @McGillMusicSaxSchool
      @McGillMusicSaxSchool  5 лет назад

      Hey Victor. Actually I did recorded the sax parts for the 100th episode of “Bones” which had a bunch of “Film Noir” type arrangements. I used my Ambika hard rubber size 8. I can get a lovely dark sound from it which works great for this.

    • @jimnatsume92
      @jimnatsume92 5 лет назад

      @@McGillMusicSaxSchool that's great. But not quite it. I said "film noir" to mean very dark but that's quite subdued. The exact sound I'm looking for is from the show American Gods. Season 1 episode 2. At the very beginning Orlando Jones gives a speech to a slave ship disguised as the Ghanaian spider God Anansi.
      Very wierd I know but vintage film noir is all I can think to call it. If you have a more accurate name for it, and a mouth piece recommendation, I would love to know it.
      Heres a link: vimeo.com/217950394/description
      I appologize terribly for the strong language.
