I always thought if a song is sampled, it should respect the original artist. When I heard church girl, I was a bit disturbed. The lyrics seemed to make a mockery of church girls who follow the rules. I didn’t see the need or point to use Twinkie’s song. Bey could have made that song without that sample. It seemed to intentionally mock.
I think if Beyonce had made an inspiring or empowering song with the sample, it would have been cool.

This kind of ministry one should sit up under. This man is preaching the truth, somebody needs to say something. Open rebuke is better than secret love. He was not bashing, but doing what God lead him to do. Saving with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment spotted by the flesh Jude 1:23.

Whats literally bringing me to tears is the fact that we would do our very best to water down the seriousness of the times we are in. We will break our back to defend people who openly disrespect the Holiness of God. The thing that angers me is we use words as abuse and judgemental etc when someone stands up for Holiness! Now anybody who follows Bishop Wooden would know that his message is not his but that of the Holiness and the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. I have NEVER HEARD HIM BE MESSY but has taken a stand for the things that we as Christians have so eagerly ignored. Has it ever occurred to the audience that says his message is abusive, that there is never such display for any other religion. We never seek to uncover the truth or dismantle the secrets of the Muslim culture, or the atheist, or the Buddhist etc but when it comes to JESUS CHRIST people that don't represent the faith or even proclaim the name of Jesus are allowed to disrespect our Savior. That's because Jesus is the True living King and anything that is right the devil is literally possessing and blinding people to cause them not to see. This isn't about Pastors, this isn't about denomination this is about spiritual warfare and the devil himself attacking the Holiness of God. And what do we do as believers we laugh it off, we make excuses, because we want so bad to rub shoulders with the very vehicles Satan is using! And to say that Beyonce is operating in the prophetic literally has my head hurting!!! Being someone who grew up in church, walked away and experienced THE REALITY OF LIVING A LUKEWARM LIFESTYLE which literally got me to deaths door, and experiencing hell first hand, hearing this man defend Beyonce and low-key rebuke the Bishop absolutely reminds me of what the word says about us calling wrong right and right wrong! God is such a loving God but we so quickly forget that he is also Holy!!!! The Grace given to us was not for us to have an excuse to sin but to bring us back into direct relationship with God so we could live Holy lives!!!!

Those women are getting up in age, how much longer do you think they can hop on planes , and meet schedules? Twinkie is a Christian but she is also a businesswoman. While Bishop Whooten is talking about Beyonce's lyrics you have Bishop's committing adultery, laundering money for drug dealers, prophets stealing messages from witches, Pastors consulting physics, leaders committing suicide, preachers walking away from the pulpits and young people mass exiting from the church. The church is in serious trouble and it is not because Twinkie Clark allowed Beyonce to sample her song. I am no fan of Beyonce's music, but if we are going to tell the real truth about the church, let's tell it. Homosexuality and Beyonce is not the only thing that the Lord is displeased regarding the church.

As a writer who has ownership of my masters and publishing rights, if you clear a sample, make sure you have stipulations that protect the integrity of your creation. If you don't want it used in a way that changes the context or sound like a chipmunk [see Chaka Khan recent comments] spell it out in writing beforehand.
Now, on to the spiritual side
Church Girl is a lot of women's truth. If it is too bad to listen to, and it is too bad to read, perhaps we should reflect on why it IS a truth in the first place. "Thot-ing" doesn't happen in a vacuum.
[See Hosea 4 to see where God lays the cause].
If women, are saying they identify with the song, that IS the opportunity to reach that girl, that woman that feels like she has two lives going on at the same time [been there, been delivered]. Jesus showed us how to respond to this in His text [see Woman caught in adultery, Woman at the well, Woman who wiped his feet with her tears]. Following Jesus response, you can't go wrong. You have an open door to bring understanding or heap on critical judgement.

Beyoncé's lyrics in 'Church Girl' say "She gon' shake that a** and them pretty tig ol' bitties"... Those words are specifically meant GLORIFY THE FLESH. Let's not pretend that an artist of Beyoncè caliber couldn't have commissioned ANYONE in the music industry to jot down a quick gospel track for her to sample on Church Girl... Snoop & Kanye West put out whole gospel albums, & KW was going through it at the time.
I'm starting to understand how the Black American community could appear to lack culture, considering We no longer hold anything SACRED & will defend our immorality at all costs.
The excuse gospel artists use for allowing secular artists to sample worship songs to 'reach the unsaved masses' WITHOUT first being fully aware of how that worship song will be used prior to cashing that check, is no longer a valid one. Gospel artists should just be upfront & admit that they really just wanted or needed money, because God already knows why they do it.

I’m a PK of COGIC (RIP Dad). As a child I Strongly Dislike the verbal abuse from the pulpit and when I became an adult I would often “discuss” this with my Dad. I found out that a lot of anger and hurt would “reside” in them and also their last place to “control”. I’m a grandmother now I REFUSE to sit under that kind of teaching! I love COGIC but unfortunately we are very split and too proud to admit it!! Not me! Not doing the political stuff no more!!!!

I think the church has more serious problems than Beyoncé’s sampling. I think of the unsaved who may hear this and seek more music by the Clark Sisters. I was raised in the COGIC and suffer church trauma because of the misogyny and verbal abuse we were subject to under the guise of following the word. I got to know God for myself and love Him. We have to be able to rightly divide culture from holiness.

My sister was away at college SAN JOSE STATE when she called me (she was NOT CHURCH AT ALL) she called me and asked; "HAVE YOU HEARD OF THE CLARK SISTERS?" I was around 16 and in SHOCK she even knew their names. I said OF COURSE! Bishop Wooten needs to use his platform to address the plights of children and adults being abused by COGIC pastors and bishops instead of worrying about the lyrics of some song that many people were not aware of until he decided to discuss it.

P.S. As a former church kid/girl, there are more pressing issues in the Black American community than Beyoncé being Beyoncé. The black church could be utilizing its power to advocate for reparations & other economic gains for us instead of this old church mother banter.

I think those other songs (Stomp, Oh happy Day, Sunshine) were presented and received with the true context of the song intact. This presentation kind of changes the context of the original song. If Twinkie is alright with the song being used as such, than fine.....but there is a difference IMO.

So IMO…she’s not telling anyone to do anything. It’s literally a short story that many of us have experienced- being a church girl and the difficulty of that assignment. To your question. It depends on the message of the song. We use our gifts to glorify God and if someone wants to use one of your songs then you need to ask yourself whether or not it would give God glory. Singing the Gospel message on a secular stage and perverting the song the way Church girl does are two different things. This is NOT you brought the sunshine and to say that it is would be a false equivalency.

SOME pastors that are so focused on all of these R&B singers are sometimes hiding behind their own lustful thoughts and struggles. I personally think that each situation has to be looked at differently. If I am invited to sing on a secular stage, a church song, then you better believe I'm going to go and sing it. But if I am asked to sing with a artist like Beyonce, who is going to use my voice for a song filled profanity or anything ungodly then I would deny it. I've done it before and have absolutely NO REGRETS. And Beyonce's no different in my opinion because who are we going to serve? Beyoncé and all these artists who have millions/billions of dollars or the Lord? Can't serve two masters!😏
I think everything has to be weighed out. Prayed about. Because we don't want to be so Heavenly minded that we are no earthly good. But on the other hand we don't want to be so carnal that not even God can tell that we're serving him anymore. Because some things that may seem very innocent can be something that God doesn't want us to do. And then some things that don't jive what our spirit may be something that God wants to use. Soooo, I think that Bishop was right and I think that we "practicing" Christians should be REALLY cautious ⚠️ with what we do and allow our gifts and talents to be used for.
I do believe that church leaders should mention the LYRICS and BEHAVIOR of these singers/rappers etc to open the eyes and understanding of our youth who listen and mimic these artists BUT not at a regular church services all of the time. I think the gospel needs to be preached at all times over the pulpit. And if they want to talk about secular singers and performers than they should have conferences or Bible studies OR they should announce to the church that they're going to have a new teaching series and how long it's going to last so that way if people want to bring soul/visitors then those visitors will know why they are there.
On another note,😉🎶 did somebody say that Beyonce and those girls (Destinys child) are Church girls? What church they go to? All this to say is that I think that our leaders really need to have workshops and events where the children/teens and the church are taught about the power of lyrics, music and behavior. I think we have to be very careful with what we listen to because as we all know, Satan/ Lucifer at one point was created with musical instruments in his body where he would play beautiful music before the Throne of God. And we all know that he puts his little crooked finger in and touches some of these music nowadays. Music is powerful and anytime the devil gets in it, it is that much more powerful. Now I'm not saying that all non-Christian/Secular music is evil/bad but there's some that are obviously evil and we ought to take heed and be careful. Watch and pray.. Our pastors are here for a reason. Be careful saints. We can't cancel everybody out who's speaking truth.

I have never agreed with the mixing of secular music with gospel music. (Just my opinion). So many generations have passed. Some of The churches have thrown out the baby with the bath water.
Some Pastor's don't preach hell fire any more. It's about prosperity and teaching on how you can make a deal with God.
