Stefan Pacher sarcasm? this guys videos just seem to be elaborate marketing videos for gear he gets for free and we’d have to pay a ton of money to emulate
@@ryanmeakins4224 not at all! I personally think the pixapro (godox, flashpoint,..) products are very affordable after all. 1 light modifier from Broncolor is the price of like 5 pixapro flashes and 10 light modifiers... Yes Tommy does heavily advertise for Pixapro but can u blame him? His outcomes are VERY good with a fragment of the studio equipment that other RUclipsrs use...
Hey Stefan, I appreciate some of the set ups here could be expensive to some but as Ryan says, Pixapro gear is A LOT more affordable than broncolour or profoto for achieving the same results. My second setup in this video for example (and actually my favourite of the three) could be achieved with a PIKA 200 instead of a citi600 and cost you around £430 for everything in the setup. Not a bad price which is why half the gear in this video I have personally bought out my own money. You’ll probably like my next video I’m about to work on which is achieving great results with a complete lighting setup worth under £250
@@ryanmeakins4224I know this is 5 years ago but did you really miss the whole point of the video and actually chose to harp on what you think are expensive light setups? Light is light. You can do these with any cheap strobe and light modifiers and practically achieve identical results. Harping on the actual gear is totally losing the plot, bud. Sheesh.
Hi Tommy - love this video! How are you able to use wide aperture AND slow shutter speed? Are you using an ND filter too or do these lights power get low enough to allow you to use wide aperture and slow shutter speed to get these results?
Keith Johnson Hey Kieth, to be honest not really. I MAY use less fill but apart from that I generally light men and women the same :) thanks for watching dude
That was one of the most well done, enjoyable, easy to understand, brilliantly recorded, fun to watch lighting videos I have seen on You Tube! This was my first time watching Tommy, and wont be the last. I just need for Santa to bring me a ring light, reflector holder, and Canon 5D Mark III body. I have subscribed and will be watching more of Tommy's videos. Thanks!
Hey Tommy, Great tutorial overall, but for the life of me, I can't get the "clamshell-on-its-side" set-up to work to no avail. I got some great half-lit/half-shadow-ish shots, but nothing like what you showed. I used two different bounces (2 foot circular, 2-by-4 foot rectangle) and two different light sources (42-inch softlighter, 36-inch octa). Did you do something in post to even them up or does the shot really need a 150cm octa to work? Thanks!
How tall does the room you are shooting in need to be. I have a 150cm softbox and it seems to me that unless the room is 3m high (‘normal’ rooms are 2.4m high) I can’t really get above the subject...
Hey Jim if you're still struggling in your room or if i have a VERY TALL person in the stduio i always sit them down. A lot easier to shoot their entire body that way with a single light too :)
You never said anything about the hot spot on your models forehead is that makeup reflection or do u like having an over exposed shot? guess thats personal preference myself i tone it down stop. you have most of the battle won with that beautiful model.
Keith Thanks for your comment Keith, my histogram would disagree it’s overexposed but this is just my personal preference to how I like to shoot :) No client has complained in the past. Yes, Sam is always great! :)
Was wondering where I recognised Samantha from then realised she’s been encouraging my kids to get up and dance around after watching Mickey Mouse! Another great Video Tommy, thanks!
HI Tommy, I tried it out last week, for this shot: instagram.com/p/BraOchFAzdC/ I love the sparkle it gives the subject... Will deffo use it more often. Thanks for the tip =)

Thank you so much! I'm going on a corporate headshot shoot much confident after watching your tutorial. Thanks for including the diagrams and for explaining things in detail.
Tommy.....This was so informative and a great way to think differently about lighting headshots! Especially within a tight space…Thank you so much! #headshotcrew
Hi Tommy, I am Thomas. Qick question. I am about to buy some gear for head shots. Could you get the same results using 2 flash 200? One for key light and one for the fill light? Or should I get 300 or 400 for the key light. Hope that my question is clear enough. Tom from Geneva
Wow, everything about this video is stunning! You have a gorgeous model and did an amazing job at showcasing her beauty with your lighting setups. Came here from Sean Tucker's YT and boy am I glad I did!
Setup #2 is so simple yet does an amazing job at recreating window light. And removing harsh shadows from the right. Genius
I loved that. Quick easy video.. bang on brother.
I think this is the first time I have seen the lower fill light set up...I really like this! Thank you so much for sharing this !
Great video Tommy - nice to see you creating stunning imagery with limited space.
Samantha's smile is a dream 🌹
That was so helpful - exactly what I had been looking for. Thank you.
great tips for headshot lighting. very interesting way of using the ring light 😍🔝👍

First time I have watched your video; and I was very impressed on how well tour presentation was. Thank you.
Fantastic, mate! Thanks a lot! :)
Love!!!
Great job at explaining everything you did
Love this. One question: do you white balance for the ring light?
Hey Tommy! Just saying hey! :-) Enjoying your tutorials!
Some great - really affordable - light setups right there! :)

Do you have a similar video for a male model for actor headahots?
Samantha’s stunning, what eyes she has...

Nice content again Tom , if i may ask , What is the setting of your strobe light ? Full power or half ?
Aloysius Calvin Hey dude, I honestly can’t remember to be honest but I know it was nowhere near full or half power if that helps :)
Allright Thanks for the answer Tom! Your video is always Very helpfull.

What happened to the Olympus Tommy?
Hey Charlie :) Currently I only shoot with the Olympus when Im travelling :)
Does it matter the size of the modifier underneath? If I have one slightly bigger than the one you have, can I just dial the power down?
Hi Tommy! Great video. Just wondering what did you use to mount the AD600 to the C-stand arm... thanks!
Finally used the 1/4 light set up and it works lovely. I have some beautiful images now. Took a little tweaking, however I got it! Thanks Tommy.
Great tutorial! Question; why not using a 50mm or a 70mm? Is not the 50 considered a classic portrait lens?
Excellent job Tommy. You always make great videos. Thank you.
