I used an M6 for several years when they were new. Fantastic camera. The trick is always to check that the rewind knob turns by itself every time when you wind the film on. If it doesn’t you haven’t loaded it right! We all learned that the hard way.

I like the "all on one" multi-exposure at 08:14 :)

I've done that with my M4... a couple of times! The M3 or M2 are slower but foolproof. The M5 is good too.

I’ve done that! After I loaded the camera,I didn’t check that the film was actually going through the camera, so I exposed a bunch of shots on the leader, which was already fully exposed to light when I was “loading” the camera. When I noticed the rewind knob wasn’t turning as I advanced to maybe frame 20, I knew what was wrong. I only made that mistake once, and I don’t think you’ll ever do that again, either. They say experience is the best teacher.

Thanks so much for the share...you had my attention and made me laugh! If this note were a fortune cookie, it'd say you are definitely going places! I liked the Statue of Liberty photo...nailed it!

I think most of us has had this happen ONCE then after that, take up the slack then in first winds to take up leader watch the rewind. Try loading a Barnack Leica….. no flip up door and trimmed leader😅

After several years of using an M2, I switched to the M7 and have not looked back. The newer loading system is much improved. First couple of hundred rolls were tri-x and rarely portra, even after that, I occasionally missload.. And i agree with previous comments about the rewind knob. I obsessively watch it when i load and fire 1-2 frames to set to zero. Nothing wrong with opening the back at the beginning to check and losing one shot versus a roll.

Actually… that stacked image looks really cool. It’s like you literally captured a New York minute! I went back and paused to study it. At first it looks like chaos, but the more I look at it, the more I see. It’s a composite of composition! You may call it a misfire, I call that art. I say make a big print of that and put it on your wall!

I've misloaded film into Ms more times than I care to remember and now put tension on the rewind knob after loading to make sure it rotates each time I wind the film forward. Never have I succeeded in multiple exposures - that's quite the accomplishment. Was the film rewind lever on the front of the camera stuck perhaps? Shooting with my M6 ti slows me down significantly compared with my Q2M or M10P. It's a more mindful experience. But up in a chopper, digital all the way!

    • @mallorydavisphotography
      @mallorydavisphotography  Год назад

Ha! I'm shocked my accident seems like a triumph (sorta)! I dont think the film was engaging with the grooves on the advancer. I felt like something was wrong initially (Should have just stopped, rewound and reloaded), but I KNEW something was wrong when I made it to 38 exposures on the counter! LOL. Film has definitely slowed me way down! I never thought I would enjoy it so much. Thanks for watching, Stuart :)

As an retired photographer, I enjoyed your work and trip to NYC. B&H have weird hours due to religious reasons ? My passion was walking in Manhattan from B&H to the Brooklyn Bridge, and shooting everything is sight. NYC is definitely a b&w place. I never shot color because b&w is all about subject not colors. I did subscribe and will give you a chance to redeem yourself from not loading the M6 properly, lol 😂 ! Buy yourself a Leica 35mm or 50mm lens, you’ll be happier with it ! Thanks, Rick….. 🌴 ps, my one and only camera and lens is M6, and a Leica 50mm f/2 lens. 👍

Is't there on cassette site rewind knob which rotates when you advance film to next shot? It's quite easy to notice that it stays still during every shot.

It looks like most of your shots are underexposed by a stop (or more). Give your film more light, meter for the shadows! Also mind that the M6 has a center-weighted meter and it always meters regardless where you point - with front lighting you need to use your own judgement and compensate accordingly! The M6 is a nice camera, a buy once never sell item, enjoy it! Put a Summicron or Summilux on it and you're set!

Paying attention to the frame counter sometimes pays off… just saying 🤷🏼
Btw. there is nothing “magical” about Leica M6, it is simply a light proof box with a shutter… just like any other 35mm film camera ever made. The reason Leica cameras have earned iconic status was the fact that it was camera of choice by most famous foto journalists… why you may ask? For a very simple reason, they were small and built like a tank and could take a pretty serious beating… other that that they are just a film camera, nothing more nothing less
With the same film and lens you will take identical photos with $5000 Leica M6 and less than $100 Soviet made Fed-2 camera

@@mallorydavisphotography that, too, But I hate the noise of NYC, and, for all the hype, like Tokyo much better, maybe even London, though it's been years.
but it seems that you had more fun, and a smoother trip, and Whistler/Vancouver is really more scenic, for those who enjoy mountains, ocean, waterfalls....
That whole thing with film not loading: i was on a trip in Germany, a long time ago, a beautiful December day, fresh snow...I had a Rollei 66, with 220 film loaded, with me, loaned to me by a friend, for whom I had picked up a new lens for that, and an F1n, and a Minox GL... we toured Neuschwanstein, and then went to Schloss Linderhof (King Ludwig's 'small' summer palace) On the way, it was one of those diamond-clear days, and some cross-country skiers, with a band of fog, heads above, skis below, but about 1-1/2 metres of fog, sunshine... took a few shots...on the Linderhof, photos of snow-covered gardens, incredible interir shots... But, at the end of the day:
      - I had 120, not 220, in the Rollei 66, so 10 shots not existing on film
      - the battery in the Minox didn't like the cold, and it had stopped working about 5 minutes out of the car
      - I had a film-slip in loading the F1n, and it was, like in your case, just on glob of Ektachrome light..
Just one of those days where the memory has been to 'film'...'men plan, God laughs'
Anyway, I hope that your next trip, and next analog film, turns out better in every way!
