Hello Dear I have a question ❓❓... I live in Las Vegas NV the water here is very hard and for my orchet I used distilled water I just Wonder if I boil the tap water it will be good for the orchid plus I have the marijuana plant and we have to put drinking water from the bottle so can you tell me please if the boil water will be good for the plants I just want your opinion because you know a lot about the plans and I appreciate very much and I hope so you can keep telling us about everything about plant I appreciate it and God bless you for helping us all the people around talk to you or send you letters so I'm sorry my letters a little long sweetheart but I appreciate it okay thank you very much my name is Iris thank you baby
This is a really helpful breakdown! There's a lot of options too, so if you're worried about the environmental impact of one, you have access to another!
I need to catch up on the last 2 weeks of videos!!! I'm so excited this week though, Danny. I've been nursing one of my orchids (my first one from last year) and it finally started growing roots (or a flower stem....I'm still waiting to see what they are). I actually have 3 new growth spots (3 bumps) on this orchid and I am excited to see what they turn out to be. One of the bottom leaves has turned yellow and is about to fall off soon too. Keeping up with your videos is paying off and it's going to be so cool to get a blooming flower spike this summer (something to really look forward to). Thanks again for all your help Danny. :)
Thank you!!! The back half of this clip validates what I was always unsure of - what medium for what orchid type. The environment requirement still puzzles me though, I am in Florida Zone 10a, and I found that the orchids don’t get enough water with dry bark watering once a week. I have since moved to 50 bark 50 sphagnum and 15 perlite and am having much success. Cheers!
What a wonderful informative video. Thank you
Thank you so much for helping me to grow orchids🌹🌹🌹
One of your most helpful videos you have done! Thank you

Nice Information Mam, love it
Thank you so much for sharing .
Love your channel. Thank you
Great video. I am still in the testing mode as to what will work for me so far all my orchids as doing well but I am still trying different media out. Good tips and going to rewatch this video often so that I can find what will work. Enjoy your day.
Good Job 👍👍 Thank You. From Sikkim 🙏🙏
Thanks for sharing
I recently rewatched "Adaptation " . I live in Florida and am an Orchid hobbyist and dream of owning a Ghost Orchid. I also watched an amazing National Geographic RUclips program about the Ghost Orchid having many pollinators. I was completely amazed, and fell in love with orchids all over again.
Thanks Danny. Extremely helpful. Great stuff. Loving the videos
Very useful tips and tricks you have shared thank you, please suggest can we use tharmocol granules in the place of perlite
Hello, Dany! Can you make a video about osmosis water and how you produce it?Maybe you can include the advantages/ disadvantages of osmosis water. I am really curious of how the sistem works and if the water is good for drinking or just for the flowers!Thank you!
Very good information. What I didn't see was charcoal? Others recommend it for a lot of things. What do you think?
you are the best
Brilliant video but which media are most suitable for miltonia orchids? I didn’t see them on the list.
Hey guys, so I recently repotted my phal orchids (from old sphag moss to bark). I cleaned and placed back into the pot, the wooden sticks I use to support the orchid when there is new growth. I just decided to pull the wooden stick out and it's mouldy with a bit of a bad smell. Should I be worried and repot the orchids again with new medium?
Hi, Great video! I just received a small dendrobium aphyllum (BTW, how is yours doing?). In regarding to potting medium, other than pine bark and lava rock, do you suggest to add any compose material at all? Thanks in advance.
Hello. Thank you for your videos. I’m thinking of mixing bark with Lyca?? What do you think?
Hi, what are your thoughts about using FernWood’s tree fern substrate for potted orchids?
I think I am realising that putting my mini phalanopsis into self watering LECA set up was a really really bad idea. I stay in Johannesburg, South Africa. It is dry dry dry here. Yikes. Got to try and save her and put her back in the sphagnum moss set up. Sigh... Thanks for all the info.
Giá thể trồng của bạn sạch sẽ và kết hợp trồng với các loại khác thì rất tốt
Can I use the bark mulch in my garden instead of buying orchid bark chips?
Could you make video about the best mini phalaenopsis hybrids and species for indood window to grow. Or is there already one?
Hi, I think all mini Phal hybrids are great for homes. The species are a bit more complicated, as they are not all very similar to the hybrids. I don't actually own true miniature Phalaenopsis species, the standards are more fitted for homes. Check out bellina and violacea, they smell great!
I just found my mother-in-laws orchid deprived of water because of her health issues. I would love to bring back this orchid to tip top shape. I tested the bark, and it still does not feel mushy. Would you still recommend buying a new medium mix since I'm sure its still using the same mix it was sold in? If so, I live in southern California, with the plant inside with temperatures from 60 to 70 degrees fahrenheit. Which medium would you recommend, and anything else to bring back this orchid?
Very informative. Thanks Danni happy Valentine's day. Did you get a new orchid.
No, nothing new at the flower shops 🙃
Hello! I was wondering if you could do an update to the care for Maxillaria Tenuifolia? I have mine in LECA, but I don't see a lot of care videos for it. Thank you!
Hi, I will make a care tips video when it blooms, it's doing on so far, but I want to have more experience with it ;)
Hi Dany thank you very much for this video, helped me a lot! Could you please tell me which orchid hybrid you have in the thumbnail, with a lionhead on the tag ? They are really my color ❤❤❤❤
Thank you
could i use coconut husk that is for reptiles? i need to quickly repot my orchids as they arrived in very bad condition.
I have used Leica in my plaenlitosis orchids and I have not have any problems yet. Should I change.
I have a bamboo orchid can you tell me what media I should use
For beginners, is there a potting mix that will work for most orchids? I am in San Francisco, weather is quite cool and moist.
Hello , can i use pumice 1/2 pot+charcoal?
My friend got reptile bark for her orchid plant will it harm the roots
How about coconut husk and charcol medium?
Hi , I’ve got an orchid - not sure which type , but it’s growing leaves and roots half way up a branch .... should I report this ?
Have a very sad phaeleonopsis orchid I have been trying to get to thrive for a year. I moved and the poor thing has not been happy. The roots on top look great, but there isn’t much growth into the substrate (orchid bark, mixed some perlite in). The two leaves it has are starting to die away but there is another leaf growing from the crown. It’s sat on the banister in my kitchen and gets indirect sunlight. No drafts either.. I use an orchid food, along with the same brand of orchid bark but I’ll have to go make sure what it is. I keep aquariums and was wondering would using tank water to fertilize sometimes hurt my orchid? The tank water ph is 7.2-7.8 depending on what tank, high in nitrates, zero nitrite or ammonia. This is my third failed orchid and I don’t wanna give up :(
Thank you for your video. I once saw a grower in India with gorgeous orchids, and she used a mix of broken bricks and charcoal pieces. Have you tried either of those, and would you recommend them?
Hi, orchids can grow in anything that 1. Can offer water 2. Can offer good air ratios 3. Is not toxic or chemically inadequate for roots, or physically damaging. Imagination is the limit, practicality is a very different story and you need to always think of your level of comfort ☺️ for myself no, I would not consider that mixture, sounds like I'd have to put in a lot of work in my environment, but that's all 😉
Wants a video on germination of Orchid rare bonsai plant Phalaenopsid.
Thank you for your videos, they're great! I have a question. I've noticed that you always use plastic pots. Some of my friends use terracotta orchid pots. They say it helps to retain moisture for indoor orchids. Do you recommend this?
She used to use them. She mentioned that the roots used to stick to the pots which made repotting difficult
@@afrikurl Is that so? Darn! I just now moved my wonderful Phal "Odessa" into a beautiful glazed terra cotta pot. Yikes! I'll try to remember to report back.
If I’m keeping my phals in an IKEA cabinet with fans and 70% humidity on average but I’m a notorious UNDER-waterer can I get away with making a sphag moss + lava rock mix?
Hi Danny i have a question about dendrobium orchids roots if they are yellow does it mean they're dead or that the root received no light love your channel
Hi, no it just means there is no chlorophyll pigment due to lack of light, but it's not harmful! Leaves are in charge of photosynthesis, roots not nearly as much, they have other 'duties' 😉
Hello, I use medium size bark only in my orchids. Could you tell me how often I should water it, is every 2 days or less? Also, should I add moss as well? The bark at the top of the plant always look dry. Thanks!
It depends on your climate and species. For example, I live where humidity is very low and temperatures are high, so I find that orchids in just bark dry very fast and must be watered every 2-3 days, and some do really poorly in this setup. For this reason I started adding moss to all my pots, much like Dani does. Other people who live where humidity is high but temperatures are low would find that moss made their pots wet too long and even pure bark stays moist for a week. Also, some species, like cattleya or vanda, need better air flow to roots than oncidium, phalaenopsis or zygopetalum, so they may want water less often than a moisture lover would in the same media. I can grow laelia in just bark with frequent water where I am, but an oncidium will wither away in the same setup unless I could water it 2x/day, which is really not practical.
Hi Danny, thank you very much for this explanation. Have you ever had problems with fungus gnats growing in the medium? If you have, can you provide advice on how to get rid of them? I got a medium bag infested with larvae, I guess, because I couldn't see them initially.
Hi, I don't know if you still need help but I'm using "Mosquito Bits" (bought on Amazon) to rid my orchids and plants of them. I followed the directions on the bag. Hope it helpss.
@@hersheyyogeemoyer7919 Thanks for your reply! I tried mosquito dunks, which is a similar product. Soaked them in water and watered the plants with it. That, in addition to sticky pads helped me control the gnats. ;)
You forgot to add charcoal, I seen people using it for orchids. Great video!
Hi, I never use charcoal, it's not needed ☺️
My phalenopsis orchid has several roots that are growing through the pot. Is it okay to cut them when I repot it?
Hi, I would not cut them, it's normal for roots to grow in the air, around the pot. Phalaenopsis are epiphytes ☺️
I can't figure out what the issue is with my orchids, is there anyway to send you a photo or 2 so I can get your input please .
Can I mix sphagnum moss with barks in repotting my orchids?
You could add some on the bottom and inbetween the bark. Just don't don't squize it in or it's your going to suffocated
I repotted with this and they are all now dehydrated. I used to be able to just water weekly and now all my leaves are limp. Help
Hi, I have very specific question that I can not find an answer anywhere - my orchids wasnt growing at all in potting ground for like 2 years. I tried water culture and i noticed they are growing new spike and are going to bloom. But some of the leaves and roots are pinkish, meaning thats too much water. Can i repot now in potting mix if the orchid is going to bloom? Or better not? Orchid is still in water only.
Hi, the pink you see is a pigment called anthocyanin, I don't think it has anything to do with too much water. Here is what anthocyanin is en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthocyanin so maybe it has to do more with light, or low temperatures. Since it is spiking too, maybe the low temps are the cause, as they trigger spikes as well. The problem with keeping orchid roots in water is lack of oxygen, here is what this can lead to hortamericas.com/blog/news/are-you-maintaining-the-proper-oxygen-levels-in-your-hydroponic-production-system/ since I don't know how you go about this setup and offering oxygen, I would always chose potting medium versus this method. Since it's bare rooted it can be potted up easily. Just make sure you don't shock the roots with drought! If they are used to being wet all the time, don't let them dessicate. Water the orchid when it's still a bit damp. Good luck!
How to take care of debi lilies
I saw some mini phals growing in coco peat, I thought it was dirt.
Do you ever used worm casing in orchid mix?
Hi, no I don't 😊
I just bought a phalaenopsis orchid, I see little insects that looks like silverfish on the bark media and inside the decorative pot. I don't see any on the orchid. Should I change the media or wait because my orchid is still has blooms?
Hi, I think they are a type of springtails. They are not harmful to the orchid no worries ☺️
Can we avoid moss
Hi MissOrchidGirl, I have a question about my 1-year-old orchid. When I bought it, the flowers were blue and pink, and the tag said Blue Wonder Phala. It was for one year without flower, and this spring it showed the first signs to give flowers again. To my surprise, the flowers are now white and yellow. Have you had in your experience orchids that changed the color of their flowers? Is there something I can do to help the orchid recover the initial color? Thank you!
it was injected with dye by "manufacturer"... now you have the original flower, created by mother nature
@@natalyanagornaya1920 Thank you, I did some further research and found out that many gardening stores have plants obtained with dye. It is a pity, but the natural flower was very big and beautiful, so I don't mind it's simple white :).
my orchids keep growing their roots through the slits in the the pots, come repoting whats the best way to cause minimal damage to the roots ?
Carefully cut the pot up in small pieces 🤷 orchids are more precious than any pots
Hi I can see in your old video's you did semi hydro do you not use that anymore?
I live in Denmark and am wondering what is best for my climate
Dannie, You listed Zygos as terrestrial. Is that correct? The American Orchid Society lists them as "true epiphytes".
Hi, if you check the orchidspecies website you'll see some species are epiphytes and some terrestrial 😉 for example look up mackaii
what about charcoals and bricks
Hi im tryin to grow orchids for the first time. Its a phallontropis or idk (first in your video) . I have bark, pumice, clay mix. Is it suitable? My environment is home, not hot or cold, not moist nor dry. I live in Turkey so cant buy from that site.
Don't use clay please! Just use bark. Clay will kill them(except for clay bricks and balls(
I bought some EXPENSIVE rePotme media to repot my phal, but it is 3/4 NZ moss! I am very unhappy with that purchase, and my phal still is just roots without medium.
hey had a question....could i use repti bark for my phalaenopsis potting mix? and if so should i soak my bark before pottting it again? I’ve also noticed the bark being a bit to small what should I add to give it more air flow?
@MissOrchidGirl
@MissOrchidGirl
ive got a glass vase, and the idea of putting my orchid in the glass vase is always there but not actually done it yet. So i wanted to ask is it okay to put orchid in a glass vase, but putting it i mean the leaves will rest on top of the opening of the glass vase, so the roots will be dangling down, but in terms of the medium, im thinking more of like mixture of moss and pebbles/stones and barks.
Is it possible to keep it like that?
Hi, where would be the drainage?
@@MissOrchidGirl exactly! That's what I was thinking too! Limited air flow as well! Like can we put a layer of pebbles at the bottom so that the roots won't be touching the water?
@@tommy988lo you must drill holes in the glass vase check youtube on tutorials on where to drill because you will still need alot of airflow through the vase itself
@@tommy988lo since this is a very old question i hope your orchid is gorgeous now
What about charcoal
Danny, I've got a really bad virus infection in my collection, I've done wide research and I've got interesting pictures with same pattern appearance. How could I contact with You to talk it through and send You the picture ?

Do you still grow some orchids in water culture?
Hi, no I never grew them in that setup, I did a treatment on them and had to keep them without media for a little while about 4 years ago. It wasn't something I wanted to do, I kinda had to..
