  • So close to finishing the sump build, but before I do, I made a review of the Eshopps overflow box so you guys can see it before it's installed.

    in 2:19 you mentioned the tilting motion of the internal box... that tilting motion is for people that don't have a 100% leveled tank and need to adjust the leveling on the box to get even water flow.using a rubber gasket, rubber Washer or a drop of acrylic solvent cement once you have it set to the perfect level.
    in 3:07 you showed us the Foam insert for the "back Box" and the noise reduction tube... I agree with you about NOT using the tube but I have the foam insert on to pick up any "Large Trash" and instead of cleaning my sump's filter once a week, I clean out that foam every night about 10 minutes after feeding the fish and and before the filters turn back on.
    in 5:50 you mentioned that you had trouble with priming the U-Tube for the back box... You should be able to remove at least 75% of the air from the tube with the airline tubing. what I do to get it 100% is get it going with the airline tubing in the U-Tube and once the water starts flowing it will push the air bubble to the opening of the airline tube where you will be able to suck it out OR just stick the overflow boxes unto your tank sideways until the two boxes "AND the U-Tube are full" , straiten them out and lift them out of the water and the back box, the internal box and the tube will be filled and the tube WILL be primed 100% ;)
    The only problems I've had with those types of boxes are simple fixed problems. The first is that the back boxes on most of them don't give you enough space to place two U-Tubes into it and the second problem would be that the internal box's baffle is not open all the way up to the top to empty the tank if you get too much water flowing into the tank all at once. but in case of Emergency I don't have to worry because I had enough problems with those boxes that I (NOW) have two overflow boxes in every tank so that I never have to worry about the tubes getting clogged

    There is an air bubble because your aerated water from the sink is feeding it bubbles 🤦🏻‍♂️

    you can easily remove air in the pipe by lowering water level and then pouring a lot of water all at once into one section. This forces a large rush of water thru the pipe and flushes out the air. Much easier than sucking out air from a tube.

      JDO Fishtank I discovered a better method. Bought two rubber plugs from Lowes for $2. fill tube up full and plug up ends under water so no bubbles present at all. Then deploy tube and remove plugs. Easy! if space is tight to retrieve plug, simply drill a hole in it or screw in a small screw and tie it to a string so it can be pulled out.

  • @Avoiderrors
    @Avoiderrors Год назад

    If shake the tube it will get rid of the air bubble no need to drill.

    I also fitted a bleed valve with a tap in the top of ubend if you send the bleed tube into the exiting water on outside of overflow box it pulls the air out perminently without using an aqualifter

    Once you have the black box adjusted to proper height, lay a thin bead of super glue on the top, similar to a bead of caulk.

    I have a 1800 I used for a few months, double tube style of course. My complaint is that no matter what I did I could NEVER keep air from building up in the siphon tubes. ( the water flow into the intake box causing at least some bubbles, adjusting that box did not help at all) After a some months of using it I determined there is no way I can TRUST it not to break siphon on me, a potential to cause a disaster! So I removed it and reconfigured my whole aquarium set up.

    • @ericlind6581
      @ericlind6581 5 лет назад

      Brads Tropics The air comes in because of the falling water from the overflow slots that create micro bubbles that eventually aggregate and build up. What I did was I removed the overflow black box, put a sponge at the end of the siphon tube (to prevent fish from getting in) and put a plastic tall bottle into the external compartment that was cut to overflow at the right water level. Then the siphon goes direct to this bottle which then overflows at the right height. No more bubbles. Basically I moved the overflow action to the external side where bubbles don’t matter.

      You need a stronger flow pump to push the air bubbles through the tube.

    • @ericlind6581
      @ericlind6581 5 лет назад

      Mikesb69 - true but hard to know how much stronger is needed. I suppose you can get an adjustable flow rate pump but they are costlier. I like my solution better as it removes stuff from the tank.

    What is this for? I am a newbie wanting to start and hide a filter. Its just a 10 gallon tank in corner of kitchen and i want o do a saltwater reef. I like things tidy. I dont want things hanging out. I am painting back black and thought of buying a hagger I thik, it called its submersible and has a spray bar and doubles as a powerhead, so (tidy) would blend in with black background.. I thought of buying a used one with a stand and could put a canister. I saw some clear pipes. Can I use clear pipes and tubing. Just anyway to keep things tidy. I don't know if I need a skimmer, i heard someone say that nanos relied on water changes so not necessary. I also heard of a HOB refugium. I have a 2inch space behind the 10 gallon thats painted black. Should I get a refugium, or maybe later down the road since I am such a newbie, and i think he had a skimmer in a refugium, so maybe I would have to change water once a week. Thanks for any advise

      Karen Nation This is an overflow system for a sump. I’m no saltwater expert at all as I’ve never kept saltwater fish. But from everything I know a 10 gallon is too small for saltwater. And if you’re new to the aquarium hobby you may want to start with freshwater

    I think you have the screw backwards, don't you? I doubt the head of the screw is supposed to be against the aquarium. Harder to adjust that way. Also, if it was me, I'd definitely use that sponge. The more surface area for beneficial bacteria the better, right? Having said all that, I'm not even really sure what an overflow box is, so take everything I said with a grain of salt.
