  • I turn a 20 gallon long aquarium into a sump for my existing system.
    I took an idea and made it a reality.
    Follow me along as I transform this tank to a functioning sump.
    There are points, during this build, when I could have used other materials, such as the test tube caps and the bottom filter plates, but I had them on hand, so the cost for me was free. I did include some prices for the plates, but not the test tube caps.
    If I didn't have them already I would've made some 'legs' out of the light diffuser panel or gone a different route.
    The beauty of building your own system is the ability to use materials and components you have on hand and to customize the sump to your specific needs.
    This is a guide to spark ideas, not rigid instructions.

    This is the most useful sump DIY on RUclips. Finally, I got to see a step-by-step approach. I thank you so much. But I take it the black cat is optional. lol.

    metal hose clamp on return pump and magnets in the tank will rust and kill everything

    • @DepthsUnknown
      @DepthsUnknown  Месяц назад +1

      The pump is sealed, so no magnets there, I also only used the magnets to set the filter rests, they were removed once the silicone cured. The hose clamps might rust, I'll have to check on them, but rust isn't detrimental to a fish tank. Some people used to add nails to their substrate to add iron to their tanks for plants. I'll double check those clamps and make sure they're doing ok. Good thinking!

    Nice job and perfect ending, the only thing I'm missing is, in case of power outage, will you have an over flooding if the return pump is not working?

    • @DepthsUnknown
      @DepthsUnknown  3 месяца назад +1

      I fill the tanks and the sump when the power is off. So this is the level it will default to when power or pump fails. It can't overflow that way. When it's running the water level in the pump area drops, but it's still plenty full of water.

      @DepthsUnknown awesome. So I need to get the height of in and out for the main tank, too. Is there any chance you sending me a picture from the back side of tank? Thank you

    Hi …Jassen…nice sump build👍…I noticed you didn’t put the phosphate pads in the new sump..?..did they not work that great..pls share your view on them…I’m thinking of making an order to the coop and putting them in my canisters…are they worth the trouble of putting them in.???..Boom like button smashed…catch you on Sunday👍

    • @DepthsUnknown
      @DepthsUnknown  2 года назад +2

      I only added stuff that was 'permanent' , those phosphate pads don't last forever, and this Sunday we're gonna see how the water tests in the tanks with those pads

      It's for a 2 tank system, a 29 gallon drains to a 20 gallon long, that then drain to this sump
