  • Hey Guys! We're back with another Short Film (Alpine Season). In this video we take you along with us, as we chase the elusive Sitka Blacktail Deer on our home island of Prince Of Wales, Alaska. We may not slay a giant, but we manage to fill the freezer just a little more before winter. We hope you enjoy our short film "Alpine Season".

Coming from mainland AK by ferry which is better for blacktail DYI....unit 4 or unit 2 and what is the best area for population and accessibility?

So, area 4 has a larger population of blacktail per square mile. Still, the accessibility of hunting that area is challenging because of the lack of road systems, unless you intend to rent a boat? If you hunt the rut, then a boat might be your best option because you will cover more ground. You can get to less pressured areas if you want to alpine hunt, but that would be more challenging in unit 4 due to the lack of roads; unit 2 has more mature bucks overall but fewer animals. It's also easier to rent a vehicle and hunt the road system. You will cover a lot of ground in unit 2 and would have a large array of alpines you could get to from the road. So it just depends if you want to alpine hunt or rut hunt and if you are looking for a mature animal or multiple animals. I hope that answers your question.

@@northstarpro.2730 I would be mostly interested in filling the freezer but im not a big fan of high climbs as I get dizzy lol. I guess I would go for unit 2 1st thank you so much, I screenshot your reply.

I'd say it depends on the time of year, but they're pretty common. Most of the time, there's just one or two, but we've seen up to about a dozen all huddled together in one spot.
