I love the new stitch along, I might have to get another job to support my cross stitching obsession! I haven't cross stitched in about 20 years.........It's good to be back. Thanks Kimberly
Truly enjoyed your video and all of them. I love your SAL because you actually 'stitch along' plus I like that you tell us what you'll be stitching next. I might be a little OCD too. I tried ordering the kit but you're out so I am already behind! LOL! I've loved your Stitch Maynia podcasts and getting to know you as a real person behind FQS has made a big difference in my purchasing decisions as opposed to other fabric stores. You are one smart cookie and you are so genuine.....a real sweetie. I can say that as I'm old enough to be your Mother! LOL! Thank you so much for your podcasts of all kinds. Also, thank you for the instruction on railroading. I never knew about that and I think it will definitely help my stitches look more even. Your stitching is beautiful. Have a great week and all your staff too! You have the best customer service!
One reason your threads are twisting up so badly is the way you are pulling them apart. Take one thread and pull it slowly straight out from the others while you hold the others in your opposite hand. Makes for less stress on the thread.
A method to keep track when stitching long rows is to just stitch the first half of the stitch and then cross every 10th st. On your return trip you just skip that stitch that is already crossed
I'm behind in watching FQS Flosstube but love your method to keep track of stitching long rows. Will have to try this...if I remember...for the SAL on Lori Holt's Sew She Did. Definitely will come in handy when stitching the sewing machine.
The new kits and notions ❤ are very cute. This is an ❤older video so don't if this exists? ❤. Lori'❤ house is beautiful. The❤ flag is really nice.❤. I cover the picture with museum glass it protects the stitched picture and is non-glare. I really like it. Thanks everyone for taking the time to explain stitching/and show projects.
by about 35:37 I decided your scissors are just in there multiplying .. ; ] It's almost like a comedy sketch.. I got quite a good laugh when the 5th pair showed up.. : D
Oh boy, ordered the Quaker Flag and floss floss and more floss, and a few more patterns. You are really giving me lots of choices between quilting and cross stitch. Thank you...yes you are enabling, but I’m loving it. TTFN, happy stitching.
You have a great laugh. : ) The Glitter House magnets, so cute, hope they are still available when I can purchase some. Thanks so much for showing us the railroad method in different directions.
Great video! Just a tip, hold your floss between your thumb and forefinger, like a pinch. Then pull one strand up and out of the bunch. I use to pull mine apart like you do and discovered this other method on youtube somewhere. What a difference it makes!
@@FatQuarterShopFlossTube I just got my cross stitch university starter kit in the mail. So excited to start!!! So does the class start August 30th? What time and is it once a week?
Yes cats paws please.. thanks for brings all of us who used to cross stitch back to this relaxing hobby. RE: the quilting part of your business, all your knowledge really helps us new quilters. The sew alongs are wonderful as there are times when I have to see process more than once 🤦♀️ have you ever considered a weekend quilting retreat with you and Lori ??
Kimberly, tiny suggestion for holding the strands of thread that are separated from the skein, but not in your needle. Take a small piece of felt with you, or the small Lori Holt board and put the thread in it, it won’t crawl away in the night or get caught up in something. I made a little 5x8 piece I keep with each project.
I am finally working on Sew She Did and so appreciated the tip you gave during the SAL about outlining. I do that on everything now! It takes some concentration to make sure you get the stitches in the right place ask around, but once that border is stitched, it's a cinch to fill it in.
This video was full of great projects, notions and tips! Just like quilting, I have a "stash" of cross stitch linen, so I usually just purchase the pattern and use what fabric I have. I have used hand dyed floss, but mostly on projects I frame. When making a pillow or wall hanging, I want to be able to wash it, if necessary, so I like using DMC floss because it is colorfast. That is my "go to" floss. I do use Cosmo, which is variegated and colorfast, on most of my embroidery projects. Kimberly, since you are trying new things, you should try linen on one small project. I like stitching on all kinds of fabric, but have to use magnifying glasses now. Thanks for another wonderful video!
This video was fabulous. I learned so much about railroading and using fancy floss. Thanks so much. I ordered the kit for the sew along and am excited to start.
Best tutorial yet. I use a hybrid system too so that I can railroad. It often depends on the floss and how it behaves. I’m stitching a flag now with great rows of red, but the white just doesn’t lie the same, so I stab.
So sad that there were no more kits! Signed up for the email alert, so I am hoping to get one :). I would love the kit to try “fancy floss” for the first time.
Your Chantilly pattern stitch area on 14 count is 4.66 by 7.5 so to that you add for your desired piece. If framing suggest additional 3 inches in both direction. If your matting add the 3inched in both sides so 5+6 = 11 inches, 8 +6 = 14, so 11 by 14. If your making a pillow you don’t need that much all around.
I put an order in today and filled up my Wish List! These videos are hazardous to my wallet! But I NEED it all!! I love to use the needle nannies on the Bees Knees Book Stand!

So enjoying Kimberly’s Maynia videos, it’s fun to have it playing, while I stitch in the evening. Can’t wait to see her finishes.
Fat Quarter Shop Flosstube mason jars, I’m going to get the patterns, and will buy floss I need, but I prefer linen so will be using my stash for them. Had to think long and hard about it but I know I wouldn’t use the Aida, so passing on the club.
My needle minder is usually my shirt or the cross stitch fabric when I put it up for the day. I was interested in the stitch along, but I don't really like the pattern.
Just recently in last couple months have been introduced to your channels. I love both the quilting and the cross stitch. I have a question that has nothing to do with either. Kimberly’s nails are always so pretty. I have to ask what color the pink is that she has on in this video? But seriously. Your channel inspires me to get things done. And teaches this old dog new tricks. Thank you for your time 😊
Hi Robbie! You can find the Farm Girl Vintage Flower Pillow pattern here: www.fatquartershop.com/farm-girl-vintage-flower-downloadable-pdf-quilt-pillow-pattern
Something glittery? You could use something very slightly gray-ish too so it stands out a little more. But i would definitely use something metallic or glittery so it will sparkle a little....but that's just what i do. :)
Depending on the white of your fabric you can use an off-white like DMC 3865 to help it stand out. You can also try a tarnished/variegated thread like one from Classic Colorworks such as #CCT-044 or #CCT-125. The variegation helps add dimension to your pattern. Thanks, Brenda and Carlene, for the great suggestions!
I just started watching your channel because I didn’t know you existed until Priscilla and Chelsea introduced you. I love the Flag Stitchalong chart, and love to stitch with fancy floss. Does railroading make it harder to pull the stitches out if you make a mistake?

Railroading is the same to pull out as regular stitches
