    First video I found that was extremely clear, to the point, and I didn't have to stratch my head and think like, "wait, what?!". Thank you. 😊

    I have never seen anyone else use the sideways method!! It is so much easier!! I’ve been thinking that I should learn how to do it the “right” way, holding my work horizontally, but you have now validated me! Lol! Thank you! 😉😃

      The right way is what works for you! And oh my goodness, isn't it so much easier working sideways?

    Finally I found someone to turn the part around. My grandma taught me this method, when i was a little boy. Have not done stitching since she died 15 years ago. Now I ordered a custom picture for my wife as a christmas present. Gonna be a tough one, 38x28cm on Aida 14ct😅. And then I see everyone using the stab method. It looks so painfully slow!
    It looks much faster in your hand. I got taught to start the cross from top left and then go from bottom to top on every stitch. That way it feels even more like sewing, which is the actual name of the method. I don't get it, why almost everyone tries it and tells, that it's not that much faster, when they never tried to use it the way its called and supposed to be done 😂

    I just started using this method and it has renewed my love of cross stitching. This method is so much faster and I'm not wasting time poking around underneath looking for the right hole to come back up in. That used to drive me crazy! So glad I discovered this method. The only thing I find I have to be careful about is not coming through between the two threads on my way back, it makes for a weird looking x.

      I'm so glad it's proven helpful! And I feel the same way. It took me so long to cross stitch before that I usually gave up before starting. And as you noticed, yes, you do need to watch out not to split stitches, but once you get used to it, that becomes a lot easier.

    I have never seen this method either. I am left handed. I believe this will make things so much easier. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

    When I've heard you and Haley talk about this on the VSC podcast, I didn't quite get what you meant, so thanks for showing it so clearly. I'll definitely give this a try on my next project!

    So glad to see this! For some reason I thought doing this was "cheating" and felt guilty every time I used it to speed up my cross stitch. Eventually, I quit. Now I am thinking about finding my old supplies and starting again.

      No crafting guilt! Even if this were "cheating", I think it's always okay to do what works for you.

    Have you ever used Huck needles for this kind of stitching? I was going to try those.

    • @wildolive
      @wildolive  Год назад

      I haven't, but that's a great idea! The huck needle I have is much larger than the cross stitch needles I use, so I'd have to see if I could find a small one.

    newbie stitcher here and stitching takes me forever, and watching stitcher friends completing there projects so fast so then I came across your technique am so excited to try this , but I don’t know how you start the beginning , do you start underneath first and how are you securing your starting floss, is it the loop method?

    • @wildolive
      @wildolive  2 года назад

      I truly felt the same way when I started doing cross stitch. In fact, because it took so long, I avoided it. This method has me hooked! As you guessed, I start with the loop method. You can see my video for that here: ruclips.net/video/qDpDDCfU3Sg/видео.html&t
      And sometimes there are places in the cross stitch where you still need to make some stitches the traditional way, but I don't mind when so much of the work is fast like this!

    How would you do this on stamped crosstitch and how do you start it?

    • @wildolive
      @wildolive  28 дней назад

      I haven't done any stamped cross stitch since changing to this method, so I can't say for sure. But I would think it would be fine, as long as your fabric has enough structure and you don't pull the stitches too tight. And I'd start it just like you would any other cross stitch. Sometimes that means doing some of the stitches with the "stabbing" method to get it started.

    Hi I am left-handed and the two times I have done the sewing method I found that I crushed or made my past stitches look messy. Do you have any tips to prevent that?

    • @wildolive
      @wildolive  3 года назад

      Because I’m not left handed, I can’t say for sure. But when you work, do you stitch in the same direction as I do in the video or do you flip it? My thought is that flipping it (starting out going from right to left, then going back left to right) could help. The great thing about cross stitch is that you can make the stitches in any direction you want, as long as they all match!

  • @katgriffin52

    Do you need to use certain size needles for this to work?

    • @wildolive
      @wildolive  2 года назад +1

      Great question! The short answer is no. That said, I prefer using size 26 cross stitch needles with 14-count Aida, even though size 24 is typically recommended. Both work, but the 26 are just a little easier.

    • @katgriffin52
      @katgriffin52 2 года назад

      @@wildolive I've never thought about needle sizes. I usually just grab what I have handy. Is there a chart or something of the different sizes?

    • @wildolive
      @wildolive  2 года назад

      @@katgriffin52 there are articles and charts online (search for “what size needle for cross stitch”) and some needle or fabric packaging suggests pairings too. But for both embroidery and cross stitch I use what feels right to me, which usually means the needle and thread are gliding through the fabric easily
