1982. people were just as dishonest as they are now. Morality has not changed. Violent crime levels are now half of what they were then so if anything people now have more morals and more honesty. But everyone prefers to look at the past like it was some kind of perfect wonderland. But I was only 15 in 1982. What do I know.
michael pickering you’re correct, people in those days were just as bad. Mercedes however shifted from their focus on reliability to more high tech engineering. Which is why everything breaks down these days.
People that own cars then were the minority few... Now having more then one car is common, so making money for car companies are the norm. All for profit.
I can’t imagine the hours and money this took. I have an genuine 82 Mercedes 500SE AMG I have had almost 30 years. I would love to see it get this treatment some day.
David Estler at least you had the experience to buy it new. My W126 380SE was a inherited from my Mom. When I was 16.......in the early 2000’s ....just for age reference
My favorite car, my 300SD had over 400,000 miles on it and other than the transmission, was all original. I still believe the turbo diesel to be the best power plant for this amazing cruiser. Loved the video!
Got myself an old Benz 1983 500 SEL and doing exactly the same style restoration. Can’t wait for final results. It takes a lot of dedication and time let me tell you that:
@@mbmann3892 wouldn't call it that. It is a very nice car, but from from w126 in terms of build quality. It is simply not necessary to built cars like this anymore, we change them too often and we always want the greatest and newest technology in them, if we spent the same amount of time to engineer a car as they did with w126 or w124 for example, the card would be outdated by the time it hit the market.
TSABRO I disagree . It’s the marketing tactics that force us to buy new cars more often . I along with most people who watch and commented will much rather have cars built like they used to. But now it’s all about volume, selling the most the quickest , just for profit. The love and passion is gone from these cars . Tho I will say I am happy enough with my W204 build quality, think it’s the last of the good ones .
You're basically saying "the car I own is the best" This is the same w204 that needs the whole door trim replaced if the handle cracks where the cable attaches, come on. I've owned and worked on w124, w126, w201, w202, w203, w210 and I can say the w124 is the last of the solid benzes. Others may be reliable, but build quality and longevity is another story
Mike Baz well again. That’s the marketing department saving money instead of creating the tooling for multiple parts on a door . They just make one. But I still believe the Mercedes from the era of mid 2000’s to 2010’s are still the last of we’ll built . Mechanically the W204 is very very reliable.
That's insane, especially the working effort during the whole process and building everything together... Huge respect! And i wish you many happy miles :)
Incredible work, WOW! Although I understand the desire to keep it the original color, I wish you guys had chosen a dark tone instead; or even the classic Mercedes silver. Almost anything would've looked better than the OEM paint.
Looks like it was ridden hard and put away wet...still, what a great foundation of a vehicle for a restoration. Definitely worthwhile project. Wish I had one!
@@znuh Mine is old faithful, we had a 2010 C300 and a 2000 ML 320 And they both let us down on day and the 300SD saved the day! The C300 has since been totaled and we won't get rid of either MBZ we have now! And I miss my C300 it was fast and economical!
When u use the best quality you don’t easily let go I had 380se and I do appreciate what was achieved on this rebuild well done and it will hopefully see many more years this s class was the best one eve made se/sec w126 🚙
I have a 500SEL, so I'm up on some of the trends--at least in my area. I'm surprised to see this large of a project on a W126. In California (and much of the U.S.), they're they still considered disposable, even if from the smallest damage, high mileage, or even just seat wear. Glad to see one being saved.
That's what you call attention to detail! Amazing! Looks better than when it was new! I've restored a few of my cars but this is on a different level restoration
Some rich guy out there will pay full price for this if it means he doesn't have to do all the work. I would do the same for the SEC, the Coupe version of this
I would like to hear the story behind this car. Doing a full restoration to this kind of car is financially just not worth it. However, I love the pictures. Rare combo with that colour and hydraulic suspension. Looks perfect. I have a series 1. 500 SEC myself.
He restored it to original condition. If you change anything on these cars the value goes way way down. I put a 7 thousand dollars candy paint job on mine and I had it professionally appraised and it was lower cause the paint didn't match the vin
What were those steel wheels? They had the centre cap tabs but I thought the W108 was the last of them. Asking because I'd like to find some 15" with the tabs.
A huge respect for those enthusiast who are not afraid to do such amazing work
These cars were made by honest people with morals. Not like now days

Absolutely jawdropping. The W126 chassis Mercedes is one of the best designs of all time.
This man did exactly what is in my mind and what i dream that my car looks like
My first Mercedes was a W126. God I miss that girl. I’m so jealous. Nice build

MBmann I’m 71. I guess that makes me old. Wife still drives an MB. GL suv. W126 best looking MB sedan ever IMO.

This video was waaaaay too short, so much love for the W126. This car harkens back to a time when Mercedes built cars properly!!
These and the old e class merc were the best cars ever made. No merc on the market today comes close to these old ones!!!!

Passion project. No financial gain here. Wonderful.

Good old times when the engineers were in charge...
Excellently done, much better than it came out of the factory in Stuttgart!!!
Stunning job, beautiful result.

Probaly better then when it came new out of the factory. Out of an era when cars were build to last, instead of nowadays
Mercedes Benz is my favorit ⭐🇩🇪
Favorit. Skoda Favorit.

huge job - but why making it look like a taxi? "Hell Elfenbein" is the color of german taxis.

Took me to my own dream land. Great work
Fantastic job 👏
Mercedes deseves second life! Love MB
Remarkable restoration but value of finished car is but a small fraction of the cost of doing it.
Some rich guy out there will pay full price for this if it means he doesn't have to do all the work. I would do the same for the SEC, the Coupe version of this
