Thank you Nitro Brother Adam for this video! It's videos like this we need more of to help out the Newbies and keep this great hobby going forward! Real good job and simple and to the point video 👍👍 deserves 2 thumbs up!!!
G'day and thank you Adam for explaining the way you set your clutch up. I was having issues of destroying the outer clutch bearing in about 40 minutes of run time and I have had too much end play (.6mm) in the bell to the set screw according to this video. Cheers and catch you in Perth for the Worlds next year. :)
Question: all of these shims are 5x7x0.1mm or 5x7x0.2mm correct? I am finding difficulty with the outside shims (1:16) as I don't have any--maybe only the slightest--amount of exposed shaft to shim up. The end screw has just 3mm washer on it, right? Do you advise using thread-lock on the end screw? Thanks, man!
Yes, you can use a washer on the outside or the screws from OS with the washer built in. I don't recommend thread locking the screw in the end of the crankshaft.
The outside bearing goes a little past the end of the shaft on my rde b21 with a losi 4 shoe clutch. When i tighten with 1 shim on either side it is too tight. Im lost
You have a way with words an it's great you take the time an make these videos for other to gain the knowledge that you share with us an thank you very much keep them coming
I'm putting the .21 jammin on my tmaxx and the crankshaft is alot longer and sticks out quite a bit. Any help or advice or idea how shim that or any tricks to make up the difference
Thanks very much Adam. This was very helpful. What are the dangers of running the engine with the bearings compressed by the clutch screw? I just bought a new engine for my car and the shaft seems to be a bit shorter than the one from the original engine, causing problems with the clutch assembly.
KT88 I think he mentioned, when it heats up metal expands. So the little play allows for expansion. If it is to tight the metal expands and becomes to tight and may cause a problem. re editited
hey i have a flywheel spacer on my crankshaft b4 my flywheel to add length to the clutch to reach the spur gear .is that ok or should i just add shims after the flywheel nut? is it a bad thing cause i never hear anybody talking about that
@@AdamDrake I found out the problem then, it was the distance between both bearings that were different from the stock pinion, even without any shims like you said I still couldn't get the shaft to get out, then I installed the older pinion back and it was ok that was when I found the problem was with the pinion itself and the distance from bearing to bearing, then I did some search and found out that are available shims with the external diameter equal to the shaft and the inner diameter for an M3 screw, basically it's kind of extended a little bit the shaft, the counter side is that the outside bearing isn't totally supported by the shaft, hope you understand my English and thanks for the awesome videos you make they did really help me restore my old hobao hyper 8 pro that was sold to another guy 12 years ago, and I bought it back from the same guy :)
@@flubber781 With the direction the engine is spinning it shouldn't back out. Thread lock shouldn't hurt anything but I worry if the screw gets stripped out.
Do you have a favorite clutch bell bearing make and or brand? I order generic bearings to size only to have them fail when the originals lasted. What kind of bearing to order?
Adam Drake racing season is coming to a close here in upstate ny but i am looking forward to the mugan bearings. Again thanks for getting back to me so quick. Ill be running VP pro clutchbell with my 3 shoe clutch and new mugan bearings of course. I might go to a mugan clutch bell depending...
umm yeah, i have a red cat shockwave with a two speed clutch, it wont shim right! i dont know if the clutch is to big for it but my local hobby store fixed it, but didnt loctite it, so the whole thing came off while driving, and i lost 'some' parts but salvaged a few from the older single speed transmission, like the bearing, which is the same diameter and width of the clutch one, I need help!
i just replaced it with the single speed bell and trans, its a little torched because the stock clutch on these models aren't worth anything don't live long, but it works fine. But I'm still kinda frustrated, the two speed transmission was broken due to the plastic components, but i think i got it bullet proof..... I've ran it on the road a few times now and nothings loosened, broken, or made horrible noises. But I've learned that after every run you tighten every screw on it and clean it up, finally getting into the nitro RC scene and not being embarrased going against my friends Kyosho brushed short course truck and having it drop its guts racing it and having to run after it when its 10 houses down >_< thank you for responding, now he wants a nitro truck.

Another great video! Thank you for taking the time to do them for us!
Thank you so much for uploading this Adam - got a new Paloma and had some issues trying to get my TKI4 clutch to fit on it without play. So helpful!
My pleasure! Thanks.
As always you help alot man. Fantastic video bro. You are number 1 in my book.
Thank you very much!

good video thank you, have you done anything on the braking system? cheers!

Agreed, but even in that scenario everything would still work. Right?
if its to tight it can cause wear or damage
Should I take my motor apart and clean after each race, or is that bad for if?
Great tutorial as always Drake👍
Nice video.Good explanation thank you.
Thank you!
I appreciate you making this video! 🤘
My pleasure!

It depends on the brand clutch you're using. Some need the washer and other don't need the washer.
What if my shaft doesn't extend past the outside/front bearing, the only I'm being able is to shime between both bearings
Maybe too many shots behind the collet?

hey Adam what type of clutch bell are you using ??
What is the best Clutch shoe, Alloy or Carbon , Answer please thnks
I prefer 2 carbon and 2 aluminum for most conditions.
@@AdamDrake thanks in advane but what about if i have 3 clutch shoe only ?
Thanks Adam
If I use a feeler gauge..is there a thickness that I should be looking for for the clutch bell gap?
Typically I run .2mm - .3mm of gap.
@@AdamDrake Thank you for the reply..
Awesome video!
Hi Adam. do you use threadlock on the clutch bell screw
I do not.
@@AdamDrake how do you stop it from backing out
@@flubber781 With the direction the engine is spinning it shouldn't back out. Thread lock shouldn't hurt anything but I worry if the screw gets stripped out.

Yes, I use the Mugen NMB clutch bearings.
Adam Drake awesome, thanks! Ordering now...
Sounds good. Let me know if you have any questions.

Protek RC also makes really nice clutch bells.
What in the oposite case? My flywheel sits so deeps i cant push the bell to cover the shoes well and i can see like 1mm of them.
Wrong type of flywheel nut or cone
off subject but THANK YOU and mugen seiki for contacting my good buddy who got the shaft early this week.
No problem.
