Yes, you shouldn't swap seats without asking cabin crew. But it does not mean the aircraft will have balance issues, a long as you move forward and back and stay in the same side of the aircraft, pilots won't have a problem correcting the balance by trimming the aircraft. (Trim is basically what elevator attitude the plane has, if it is trimmed positively the plane will have an easier time taking off, so if the weight changes in the cabin all that pilots will do is from the aircraft.)
I'm an aerospace engineer, and trust me that doesn't matter at all, because there are autopilots that accomodate such changes in aerodynamic centre. Feel free to change seats and move around. It won't be a very big problem until and unless all passengers start running around edges of the aircraft. It will be sudden and confuse the autopilot🚀✨
The FAA accounts for 180 lbs per seat and it is calculated into the weight and balance of the aircraft. That’s why they don’t weigh passengers. Moving seats in an airliner will NOT cause an imbalance great enough to cause any issue. If your in a small plane 4 to 6 seats it is more critical.
As a former "cabin crew member", I was a flight attendant for many years - I NEVER once heard that passengers shouldn't change seats. My daughter was watching this on a plane and She saw a person switching seats and yelled at them to sit down. The attendants saw and told her thank you and they told the person to thank her. Mind you she is 6. This also happened another time when we were on a plane she told the person in the exit seat to read the manual. She is now still 6 and loves to fly. We go on the same plane if we go in the air. Se loves flying. And brings gifts for the attendants. Now she’s been diognosed with a severe form of syncope . Please pray for her. Bless your heart if you do
Seat changes are usually only risky if you move more than several rows, and depends a lot on how heavy the aircraft is. On a small aircraft like a 15 seat seaplane, you'll often be asked to change seats to get a better balance. On larger aircraft with a high payload, an individual seat change is rarely enough to tip the balance off (partly because everything is planned to keep the CoG around the center so there's more room for inaccuracies.) Also, the whole thing is more important during take off and landing than at other points. Flight attendants will often let you change freely after take off if you want.
Oh dear, definitely calling bs on that one. It's not logical unless they weigh every single passenger, or demand to know your weight when booking! And what about the flights where you can choose your own seat while booking? Yeah, this isn't logical. They like you to be in your assigned seat during takeoff and landing so that it's easier to identify the bodies if there is an accident. The bit about accidents being more likely to happen on takeoff and landing is true.
Nice to hear that YOU for one are using your brain! And, why don't we all cut back on this terror of planes. Hey Y'all, Aerospace Engineer here. While it is true that moving around in a plane cabin shifts its CG, passenger planes are designed to accommodate for a large variety of seating arrangements. Where the primary concern is is with passengers moving to the fore or aft of the plane since this can cause a much larger shift in CG than moving left or right. In most scenarios where it is "first come first serve" seating in an aircraft, you don't need to worry about where you sit. 😉
I feel like this is kinda cap, because although it may be a little unsafe to switch, it won’t necessarily through the who plane off balance because either way there is still the same number of people on board. And how would the plane not be able to stop if the runway was too short? Everyone, even the pilots have to be aware of this stuff, so I’m sure it would be ok to change once in a while. ALSO, (I’m not complaining, I’m just reasoning) the plane goes off balance a number of times…hello? They have to TURN!! :)
I think it more about occupied seats vs empty. I've been on a few flights when they've asked for volunteers to move from the back to the front of the plane for this issue.

It’s just the difference between an empty seat or an occupied seat. The loading is done whether or not the seat is occupied and is calculated on an average of like 75kg. If the seat is occupied and that seat will likely have 10kg of luggage nearby under the seat in front or overhead locker.

I’ve been on over 70 planes in the past year. It’s NEARLY impossible to leave your assigned seat 💺 This video was helpful for someone who hasn’t flown in a long time or doesn’t fly often. Flying without connection is great, when it’s available or not extra money. Even $100 is $100 I can spend at my destination. And - hey - if the plane goes down - we’re all going down together. ❤️
It's kind of comforting knowing you're not gonna die alone huh? I'd still rather not die at all, I practically have my entire life infront of me.... man I've lived on this planet for 18 years now and haven't done ANYTHING yet. Funny thing I’m getting my pilots license and in a huge boing like that if a few people move you won’t notice it at all. What’s funny is people get up to go to the bathroom all the time and flight attendance push carts full of snacks and beverages through the plane
Apart from affecting balance, C of G and trim, the names of passengers are listed in the seat layout before take off and where they are sitting. In the event of a crash, it helps identify who was in a particular seat.
LAMOo this is not real tf, the passengers that swap seats can't make that much of a diference to the plane, the plane is supposed to handle all kinds of scenarios like that
@@juliogayagas2314 They tipically measure your size of the baggage so it can have enough space for others and older models may ask for the weight as the holders aren't the sturdiest things in the world.
Planes have got a function called Trimming. That means that they can trim the aircraft with a little joystick to avoid constant pitching or rolling of the aircraft. So don't worry to switch places. The pilots know how to trim their aircraft.
How about if u want to change seats in the same seat row? If someone is at the window seat and u wanna sit there and they don't Then can we swap seats? Oh and,I one time went on a pink plane! My fav colour!
I have a question, so how do you account for going to the bathroom and the crew members walking up and down the aisle and the crew members moving ppl from their seat to first class? Wouldn't that in theory throw the plane balance off??? But, ok.
It's a RUclips video made to get viewers..... The person who created the video doesn't care about logic or Real Research. They only care about money at this point......
Tristan Scheffers Federal Aviation Requirements. CASA will have something very similar for weight and balance, especially as the standards are likely tied directly with the manufacturer’s POH.
Karen Combs where did you hear that? I know of no such system on a plane, plus it wouldn’t be accurate in measuring balance. Tangurple is correct, they take averages. Except it’s 190lbs per person in the summer, 195lbs in the winter.
My dad is a pilot, and this is fake af. He flies private jets, and the passengers are allowed to get up and walk around as he’s flying, it won’t do anything to the plane, I assume.
Private jets have surplus space and power, allowing for a more comfortable experience for the passengers. Larger aeroplanes carrying 300+ passengers have an enourmous focus on efficiency, and the displacememt of mass might have an effect on handling.
A s t r o B a l ļ they said 4 ppl switching seats in a plane with 30 people or less. So 4 = 13.3% of the plane. For the logic of today’s aviation, which all planes are like 200 seats< there would need to be like 25 people switching seats on an airplane for the stuff they said on a video have any effect
I asked my friends Dad who's been a pilot for 25 years and he said that they don't want people to swap seats, if the Plane goes down its easier to identify the bodies. Don't wanna bury John where Ben should of been. That's what he told me. I'm no flying expert but kinda makes sense to me!!
That makes no sense cause when I was on a flight with my family, my dad's seat was really far behind or Infront so we would swap seats with others so at least my mum and dad could sit next to each other and nothing like that happened
Even when any passenger stood up for washroom, the occupied seat become empty leading to change in the weight distribution. In that case how crew and pilot handles the plane ?
That's more important during take off and landing, as clarified in the video. Therefore, they don't allow passengers to use washrooms during those times.
Biswarup B Karmakar I’m pretty sure it’s so they aren’t stuck in the bathroom during a crash that makes way more since than “this 100K kilogram vessel is severely affected by less than 1% of its weight being offset”
So i was sitting with my mom and a random lady. We sat in the back, but then my mom said she would go sit with my uncle, he sat in the front. When we landed there were police there. And know im watching this video😬

Seat changes are usually only risky if you move more than several rows, and depends a lot on how heavy the aircraft is. On a small aircraft like a 15 seat seaplane, you'll often be asked to change seats to get a better balance. On larger aircraft with a high payload, an individual seat change is rarely enough to tip the balance off (partly because everything is planned to keep the CoG around the center so there's more room for inaccuracies.)
Also, the whole thing is more important during take off and landing than at other points. Flight attendants will often let you change freely after take off if you want.
Me : *switches seat*
Pilot : YOU DOOMED US ALL!!
Me : but I’m not on the plane

Oh dear, definitely calling bs on that one. It's not logical unless they weigh every single passenger, or demand to know your weight when booking! And what about the flights where you can choose your own seat while booking? Yeah, this isn't logical. They like you to be in your assigned seat during takeoff and landing so that it's easier to identify the bodies if there is an accident. The bit about accidents being more likely to happen on takeoff and landing is true.
just asking.... what does bs mean
Nice to hear that YOU for one are using your brain!

I feel like this is kinda cap, because although it may be
a little unsafe to switch, it won’t necessarily through the
who plane off balance because either way there is still
the same number of people on board. And how would the plane
not be able to stop if the runway was too short? Everyone, even
the pilots have to be aware of this stuff, so I’m sure it would be ok
to change once in a while.
ALSO, (I’m not complaining, I’m just reasoning) the plane goes
off balance a number of times…hello? They have to TURN!!
:)
7:06 this is literally the point of overhead bins, the stuff you can’t fit under your seat goes in there. Doesn’t matter if it’s heavy or not

It’s just the difference between an empty seat or an occupied seat. The loading is done whether or not the seat is occupied and is calculated on an average of like 75kg.
If the seat is occupied and that seat will likely have 10kg of luggage nearby under the seat in front or overhead locker.
It's for safety

Apart from affecting balance, C of G and trim, the names of passengers are listed in the seat layout
before take off and where they are sitting.
In the event of a crash, it helps identify who was in a particular seat.
That is assuming that the plane is still intact
LAMOo this is not real tf, the passengers that swap seats can't make that much of a diference to the plane, the plane is supposed to handle all kinds of scenarios like that
Exactly. They don’t even ask your height and weight when you butter your ticket
i agreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

gunga ginga excuse me they limit the weight of our baggage and who knows some other aircrafts can be like that
@@juliogayagas2314 They tipically measure your size of the baggage so it can have enough space for others and older models may ask for the weight as the holders aren't the sturdiest things in the world.
Planes have got a function called Trimming. That means that they can trim the aircraft with a little joystick to avoid constant pitching or rolling of the aircraft. So don't worry to switch places. The pilots know how to trim their aircraft.

I have a question, so how do you account for going to the bathroom and the crew members walking up and down the aisle and the crew members moving ppl from their seat to first class? Wouldn't that in theory throw the plane balance off???

How does the airline know my weight. Not like they ask
They assign seats based on averages. They know where the empty seats are.
Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) state that as a method of guestimating weight and balance every human is 170 pounds

federal aviation regulations. It’s just the name of the type of rules for us here in America

Private jets are different...
Private jets have surplus space and power, allowing for a more comfortable experience for the passengers. Larger aeroplanes carrying 300+ passengers have an enourmous focus on efficiency, and the displacememt of mass might have an effect on handling.

Love these informative videos
It really doesn’t matter, I’ve switched seats almost every time on an airplane, and it doesn’t put the flight in jeopardy.
They said if about 4 people changed seats
So what you said is bs
A s t r o B a l ļ they said 4 ppl switching seats in a plane with 30 people or less. So 4 = 13.3% of the plane. For the logic of today’s aviation, which all planes are like 200 seats< there would need to be like 25 people switching seats on an airplane for the stuff they said on a video have any effect
@@mirela1894 a few people switching seats doesn’t do anything. This video is bs like a lot of videos on this channel.
I asked my friends Dad who's been a pilot for 25 years and he said that they don't want people to swap seats, if the Plane goes down its easier to identify the bodies. Don't wanna bury John where Ben should of been. That's what he told me. I'm no flying expert but kinda makes sense to me!!
0:28 No way, I never thought of that before
Just imagine if you could take down an airplane with your weight 😂
That would be sad
That makes no sense cause when I was on a flight with my family, my dad's seat was really far behind or Infront so we would swap seats with others so at least my mum and dad could sit next to each other and nothing like that happened
Even when any passenger stood up for washroom, the occupied seat become empty leading to change in the weight distribution. In that case how crew and pilot handles the plane ?
It’s only if they put more weight on another side if one person goes it’s not that bad
One or two people wont do it. But if a good portion of the people (1/10-1/2) suddenly switched, yes that would cause problems
It's more important for take off and landing. When the plane is cruising at 31-41k feet the plane is much more stable and can easily counter a
That's more important during take off and landing, as clarified in the video. Therefore, they don't allow passengers to use washrooms during those times.
