    Actually, Quadro series are pretty reliable than the GeForce series, more CUDA Cores and faster Clock Speed, simply more powerful.
    So if you really need a computer for architecture, you need a Desktop, specifically a WorkStation Desktop, or a WorkStation Laptop.
    But as WorkStation laptops are expensive, you still can buy a good med-specs laptop and still render good photos but gonna take more time. i have the 8th i5-8250u and works fine with vray, autocad, sketchup. ( Didn't try 3dmax due to it doesn't support my GPU tho my GPU can run it).

    Hey Llyan, first of great video topic for Architects.
    First of I'm a new follower of your videos and page, and it's perfect for an architect students. Thanks 😘🤣
    I liked this video because just recently I brought my P.C. To begin with do specify the minimum specs required for first lap/p.c, categoried by maybe gender or usage. Lol, usually men require higher graphics, they are the lazier bunch and last minute workers. So heavy working is usually seen.
    1. Processor
    Well this is something I heard from a computer specialist,(let's discard the option of i3 for Architects for now 😅), i5 specialised in rendering, i7 specialised in video editing, and i9 for 4k video editing. Also you forgot to mention an really important information regarding processor, more than the 5,7,9(processor series number 🤣). What matters is the generation.
    2. Graphics
    Well again do specify the minimum required. Usually seen in gaming laptops is 4gb graphics, 1050 or 1050ti. And also the maximum required. Personally I believe 4gb is minimum for lap and max is for pc/lap is 1080, and 2gb minimum for p.c. Regarding company durability wise Nvidia is better, heating wise it depends on the fans. Radeon, there are issues of using refurbished internal chips.
    3. Ram
    Well said, 8gb minimum, but more importantly motherboard matter. Y? We can add on in future. So the number of slots in motherboard matters more. Plus, nowadays most of gaming laptops come with 8gb ram to start with. I believe 32gb ram is a luxury for most of the Architects. A 16gb will do well.
    4. Storage
    Good that you mentioned about SSD & HHD. Main difference between the two is speed. Usually what's seen is Windows( or any OS) is installed in SSD for better booting speed. Also installing the software in SSD will improve the performance speed well. So try going for minimum 120 GB SSD, if 240gb then splendid. More is luxury and also cost is a important factor 😅.
    5. Brand
    Personally doesn't matter much. All the mentioned brands only sell system with these specs. But one to take care is to buy from brand which is available in your country, service related issues.
    Another interesting topic to make an video is , which to choose, a lap or a P.c . Their performance, durability, transportation ease etc. Because P.C usually has less issue of hanging or being stuck, also less heating. Laps are easily adaptable to surrounding.
    Llyan incase you reply, please reply to my mail, aswajith4@gmail.com, coz I don't know how to look up at replies at RUclips comments 🤣. So I won't be noticed even if u reply.
    Recently I build my P.C, the specs are as below:
    Processor: Ryzen 5 1600 Processor (performance almost equal to an i5)
    Graphics: Nvidia 6gb 1060(More than enough I believe, with 3 fans )
    Ram: 16gb(2 more slots to add on)
    Storage: 2TB HHD & 240GB SSD
    Also with more number of fans which is a plus for P.c
    And by the way thanks for reading this whole shit for this long.🤣

    • @LlyanAustria
      @LlyanAustria  5 лет назад

      That's like the windows operating system(OS), usually having a 64 bit OS means your computer can utilize more RAM and handles it more efficiently than 32 bit. I recommend getting a 64 bit windows OS:)

It was a rendering machine and also make sure to update your BIOS uploaded on the HP website. I would recommend HP Omen it was a best performing laptop at its price.

    hi again .. i LOVE ur video .. precise and informative. Just wanna add on the point of the RAM. Being an ex-architectural student, one can explain the size of RAM likened to the drawing board. The bigger the RAM, the bigger the drawing board i.e. one can clutter the board with more things and easy access to them, without having to reach to them in the drawers maybe. The drawers can be likened to the SSD/HDD.
    taka care.
    p/s good info on the i7(U vs HQ) and the reading of the graphic card specs.

    Hey! Awesome video! This was super helpful for me since I’ve been looking into laptops and been having to learn all the specs by myself. I’m looking I’m into buying a Notebook Odyssey 15.6”, main reason is because it’s only 600 at a local pawn shop. It’s 7th gen i7HQ processor, 16GB of RAM, it’s a 1TB of HDD + 128 SSD but it’s a NVIDIA GTX1050. Its either that laptop or a Dell G7 15.6” laptop. It’s a 7th gen i7HQ, 16GB of RAM, it has 1TB of HDD + 128 GB of SSD and has a NVIDIA GTX1060. It’s like $750. I’m not sure which to choose from the two, and I would appreciate your help! Thanks you so much again! Amazing video!

      I say go for the one with a GTX1060, it may be more expensive, but the extra 2gb Vram (GTX 1050 has 4GB the GTX1060 has 6GB) will definitely come in handy when you're doing some heavy 3d modelling:)

    Hi! What do you think of Aorus 15 X9? It has i-7 8750 RTX 2070 with 16 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD + 2 TB HDD. I mainly use AutoCad, sketchup or Rhino for modeling and Lumion for rendering. Photoshop for post production.

    hi great video! I currently have the Dell Inspiron 15 7000 (7567) It has the Intel i5 HQ // NVIDIA 1050 TI 4gb // SSD 256 GB // 8 GB of ram. What are your recommendations on upgrading my laptop. I'm thinking about upgrading the ram to its max of 32 gb. Also want more storage. There is a slot for a HDD should i get an HDD 1tb and also upgrade my SSD. or should i just upgrade my SSD to 500 gb? thanks.

  • @karlikot
    @karlikot 5 лет назад +1

    The list really helpful for those who are starting and also for those who wants to build a pc. You also forgot to mention that when rendering the ones you are using are the threads in your cpu. Most i7 nowadays specially the 8th gens have 16 threads which can help with the render speed. Also i wouldnt recommend buying a laptop with an i9 processor because of the thermal issues. I would also like to point that if you want a faster boot up and software startup, use a m.2 ssd. Hdd is for file storage. My current laptop setup is a dell inspiron 4760 because of its portability and ports. Ports are also important, i couldve gotten the xps 15 but its too expensive. It has 256gb.2ssd, 1tb sata drive, 7th gen i7, 16gb ram, and nvidia 950m maxq graphics. It could run autocad (im using 2007 for reliability and it doesnt crash at all), sketchup 2018, excel, and photoshop all at the same time. If i were to upgrade, i would go for xps 15 2018. But the reftesh rates of the razer blade 15's screen is what i really wanted to have, makes the 3d modeling smooth and faster.

    Hi Llyan, this was a very informative video and was helpful :)
    I would like to know on your opinion of the Lenovo Legion Y730. The specifications covered most of what you suggested (Intel Core i7-8750H, RAM 16 etc...) however there is one setback and it's that the graphics card is a GTX1050 Ti. I seem to prefer the design of this gaming laptop compared to other gaming laptops which are bulkier and heavier. The price is also within my budget.
    However, due to the graphics card being below the preferable GTX 1060, do you still think it is reasonable for me to buy the laptop?
    Thank you!

    • @LlyanAustria
      @LlyanAustria  5 лет назад +2

      Maybe you could ask the Lenovo store if they have a variant with the GTX 1060 card, but if there's none, the GTX 1050ti will be good enough for school works:)

    Hello Arch., I bought a gaming laptop with a GPU of RTX 2060 (NVIDIA), my question is, do you think it will last for a couple of years (performance wise)? I have no intention of installing games in it, just purely architecture related stuff. I invested on a laptop rather than a desktop since it consumes too much space at home. It runs really smoothly with ACAD, REVIT, SKETCH UP and really renders fast. Just bought it 3mos. ago. I'm wondering if it's worth it ($2.5k).

    The first digit in the four-number sequence of intel processors indicates the generation of processor, the "8" in an Intel Core i5-8300H and the "7" in an Intel Core i7-7700hq, comparing these two sample laptop processors, the i5 is greater in performance than the i7 since the i5 is newer in terms of generation and because the 8th generation of i5s offers twice the thread count than the previous generation, so it does not generally mean that an i7 will always instantly be better than an i5 :)
    but nevertheless, still a great video and a great heads up to fellow arki students looking to buy new laptops, especially portable gaming laptops are becoming cheaper and cheaper as technologies develops.
