So glad I found this - was looking at the Ranger brand tools and replacement pads, and at the prices for those things here in Switzerland, I was like - SERIOUSLY? thanks for all the great info on your channel!
THANKS FOR ALL UR GREAT IDEAS AND OUTCOMES. LOVE THE FRUGALITY, WHAT A WONDERFUL WAY TO MAKE PAINT DAUBERS. LOVE YOUR HAPPY VOICE. CAMILLE AUSTRALIA 💜💙💜💙
So clever! I just looked at my many Distress Ink blenders I'd bought and thought "Oh no, I have to buy another set for the Oxide" (Many thanks for the ingenious idea from a flat-broke fan!) ;)
Great tip!!!! That's the problem with using the makeup sponges in the first place is that they show the square edges!! Perfect tip! And we can rip out the old one and replace it with a new one I'm sure!! Thanks for sharing!!!!
This is such a cool idea. Thank you. I like the bottle caps also as sponge handles. My fingers always get inky and you know what that leads to. Yes I smudge my cards all the time and have to do as you do and apply embellishments. I just bought a 10 years supply of buttons for just this purpose. That was before I saw your condensing video. I guess that will give me something to do in the future.
Brilliant tip, thank you so much, always interested in trying to save money on crafting items! I've had some excellent cutting dies from China on eBay that are so cheap! The only thing is, its takes about 5 weeks to arrive here in England.
Lindsay, I loved these distress oxide inks so much I bought all 12 from Amazon for a special price of 64.99 down from 74.99. They had 4 for the price of 24.99 so I thought the 12 was a pretty good deal. Also FYI amazon also had empty whole and 1/2 pan you can order from also. Thanks love to watch your watercolor painting.
thank you Lindsay for your ideas and also because your energy is infectious!! I have a question .. a friend has sent me 12 distress oxide ink refills,,, can I make a DIY stamp pad at home?
You are so creative!! what paper are you using to get those beautiful die/ oxide images. I am struggling a bit. neenahs 80&110 didn't work for me. I have and will try next Bristol, Strathmore XL and tim Holtz distress paper. Any suggestions?
Very cute & frugal idea! My experience with makeup sponges has never been a good one. I find they don't blend well at all, which is what I do most of the time. Have you found this to be a problem with this type of applicator? Or do you have a solution for my problem? I currently use the round Ranger distress tools with very good application. Thank you, Lindsey.
+Kristine Vencel I have never used the ranger ones but I have always been happy with these. I think folding them over helps because you have a firmer "puff" to blend with.
Have you tried a diy distress oxide ink? I just played around a little with white gouache, glycerine and distress ink. I think it worked ok, but I haven't bought any of the distress oxide to be able to compare. Also, is the ink pad a sponge pad or felt? I couldn't get it to absorb into the felt pad at all, and all my pigment ink pads are sponge pads. Hmmmmm..... Think you might do a $$$saving DIY video? Thanks for all the other frugal tips I have tried!
Do you prefer the distressed oxide better then the archival? I am curious because one is water proof and the other is not? So why do you tend to use the dioxide vs archival colors?
Lindsay, I can't find the video that has your baby shampoo/glycerin stamp cleaner recipe. Can you point me to the video or let me know here what the proportions are? I have Simple Green, which works great but I'd like to have the glycerin tincture.
can i ask u what do u store the chess and bottle-caps in? I'm not sure if they would create a mess in a drawer since it is ink after all. lol i would just place the bottlecaps on the top of the cap with the sponge on top but im worried that the chess pieces would roll around, especially the rooks...? any advice?
TY! I want to be able to grab the holders easily since i have partial paralysis in one of my wrists and hands. i was thinking that i could take a slit/sliver out of some small painted pvc pipes so that i could simply slide the foamed side of the chess pieces into it and then i could grab the "nib" side of it and the foam side would be inside the pipe. i also wouldn't get "inked" if i brush across it. OR maybe put the pvc pipe on a standing paper towel holder with the slit a then i could add more of the "holders/nibs" into it....idk? can u picture my idea or did i confuse you as much as i confuse myself? ummmm....1 last question..are the makeup pads all foam or are they the foam and latex ones?
how about removing the lib from a fish&tackle box and put them foam down, one in each compartment? Get a clear one and ink a swatch of paper and tape it underneath so you can see where it goes ans what color is there. Cheaper and easier then PVC pipe too!
thefrugalcrafter Lindsay Weirich THATS A VERY VERY CLEVER IDEA and I COULD PUT MY INK PADS N IT TOO! TY VERY MUCH SWEETIE! Now to continue watching ur videos...been at it for 5hrs now..lol. But your worth it!
What a great idea will have to look out for one of these in the charity shop
Thank you for the great idea with the make up wedges in bottle caps!!

Awesome idea.
Beautiful! Thanks
Thanks for the idea!

right, and they last a long time, my regular dye ones have been going strong for years, I have only replaced the black sponge.
+Sharon French oh, I did not get rid of any buttons. They are sorted in 25 bins by color and they spark joy:)
Brilliant tip, thank you so much, always interested in trying to save money on crafting items! I've had some excellent cutting dies from China on eBay that are so cheap! The only thing is, its takes about 5 weeks to arrive here in England.

+Linda Orais thanks, I have been saving them for this for over a year but did not need new blenders til now, they are great!
Great 💡 idea
Oh wow so cool!
Very good video!
This is genius!!!
That is a fantastic idea. You could probably even get a cheap chest set and use the chess pieces if the were big enough. Love your videos. 💙😃🌴🌷💚😛
I guess I will go downstairs and take my sons game pieces if he doesn't use the game anymore. Thanks for the great idea Lindsay!
great idea!!!
Love it and I have an old glass chess se too I may repurpose it! TFS 💕💕
GREAT IDEA~!

Frugal yes all the way!
Great idea for all the extra chess sets I have lying around LOL

LOL!!!! I paused twice to look for my phone!! Great idea though!!! Thanks!
+Ana Abruna haha, it has been a very noisy day around here, my 3 kids and their friends coming and going and calling lol:)
thank you Lindsay for your ideas and also because your energy is infectious!! I have a question .. a friend has sent me 12 distress oxide ink refills,,, can I make a DIY stamp pad at home?
+samar gardezi sure, use cut and dry felt or simply apply the ink to your project with a cosmetic sponge.
THANK YOU !!!
nice tip. I need to find chess pieces
You are so creative!! what paper are you using to get those beautiful die/ oxide images. I am struggling a bit. neenahs 80&110 didn't work for me. I have and will try next Bristol, Strathmore XL and tim Holtz distress paper. Any suggestions?
+Debi Vintinner I am not sure what the tags were made if but it seems to be a coated paper. I am playing with them today and will try bristol I think.

great ideas! Can the sponges be cleaned or reused? Can you just pull a sponge off & glue a fresh one on the chess piece?
+janet walsh I don't clean mine, I have w bunch in different colors and dedicate it to that ink
Have you tried a diy distress oxide ink? I just played around a little with white gouache, glycerine and distress ink. What a great idea to use those chess pieces. I was wondering do you store these pads upside down like we do with the dye ink ones?? TIA! ~Jeanne
+homeschmomof4 pigment pads you store right side up and that is how these are for me
Thank you, Lindsay!
Do you prefer the distressed oxide better then the archival? I am curious because one is water proof and the other is not? So why do you tend to use the dioxide vs archival colors?
I only use archival in black and brown for images I want to watercolor. I have distress in all colors for fun techniques.
@@thefrugalcrafter gotcha. Thank you!!

+Kathryn Jackson baby shampoo actually has glycerin so I just put a squirt in a dprsy bottle of eater and shake it up.
What is a dprsy bottle of eater? I've been stuck trying to figure out what auto spell messed up but don't have a clue. LOL
I'm pretty sure she meant "spray bottle of water." :)
They look like pigment inks? Is that close??
A .Vultink Its a blend of dye and pigment
can i ask u what do u store the chess and bottle-caps in? +Dionna Vallejos I have a spinning parts bin from harbor freight and they are in one of the bins. Or you could put them sponge side up in a bowl

aww, shucks:)
PS I'd rather make cards than play chess any day so it's no big loss. I think the rooks work the best.
Wooden pegs from the craft store come to mind now....hmmmm
Brilliant!
