Guided Die Holder ! Let’s Make One

- I built a die holder with a guide: it is very easy, especially with large thread pitches, to start off wrong.
This then means that the die holder will stop and the thread will be wrong; using the calibrated bushes for the thread diameters instead, the thread is performed correctly, chips itself keeps the bush in place.
The sensation is that of turning a tool that embraces the piece, really beautiful !!
I'm really happy with the result and it's a super addition to my workshop!!
Hope you like that!!
Alberto

In this video, we'll be making a guided die holder! This is a great project for anyone interested in model engineering, and it's a perfect way to learn about how die casting works.
Die casting is a process that uses molten metal to create objects from a mould. By learning how die casting works, you'll be able to create your own models without any dangerous equipment! In this video, we'll walk you through the entire process, from casting the die to finishing the project. Done correctly, this project will be a real treat for your model engineering skills!

G’day everyone,
I built a die holder with a guide: it is very easy, especially with large thread pitches, to start off wrong. This then means that the die holder will stop and the thread will be wrong. In particular with length over 2*diameter of screw; using the calibrated bushes for the thread diameters instead, the thread is performed correctly, the chip itself keeps the bush in place. The sensation is that of turning a tool that embraces the piece, really beautiful !! I'm really happy with the result and it's a super addition to my workshop!! Hope you will like that,
Alberto
I've not seen that done before, I like it. Thanks for sharing!
Ciao Matt !!
Yes it is an ancient project but nobody had made it before and I really don’t know why!!
In any case with it, you will go straight of course !!
A big ciao and thanks for your kind comment!!
Alberto
Ciao Alberto. So many times have I had to bin a part because my long thread did not start straight. The use of a guide bush is inspired. Excellent idea. 👏👏👍😀
Hi dear Andrew, yes really, i modifed a H.Hall project and i don't know why nobody, until now, did not make this project: not only useful of course but nice also to watch when it is working !! Ciao Andrew !!! See you soon, Alberto
Very smart way to get nice and straight threads
Ciao Lloyd, yes it helps a lot and the screw will turn out nice all the way in the lenght !! Thanks for the comment !! Have a nice week-end and see you soon !1 Alberto
Excellent tool and manufacturing. Thank you for the video 👍🇦🇺
Ciao Mark !! I'm glad you liked the video, i have to work on audio to improve the quality, it was the second time that i used the new microphone so...the beginning of a new era !! Ciao Mark !! See you soon, Alberto
that is a very good idea using the pilot bushings,, that way you get a straight alignment into the die every time.
Hi Vernon !! Yes really, you will go straight every time and in particular with longer screws, now i can make long screws in the better mode !! Thanks for the comment, Alberto
Alberto, This is a well designed and well made accessory that should solve the problem of starting the threading process from being crooked. I will have to add this to my future projects. 👍
Hi Jim !! How are you? Happy to see Jim, I’m happy you enjoyed the video, this device will make the difference between to be lucky to go straight and to be sure to go straight!! Hope to see you again !1 Ciao Jim, Alberto
Very nice Alberto. I like your design. 👍👍👍👍😃😃😃😃😃
Hi Randy, glad you liked the device and I really don’t know why nobody had make it before, the project had more then 30 years…but it is very useful to go straight !! ATB Randy !! And thanks for your comment!! Alberto
Wonderful design. Very useful tool. Thanks for sharing this idea.
Ciao Hans !1Yes it makes the difference between go straight and not !! Happy that you like the video !! See you soon and thank you for the comment !! Alberto
As always an amazing project my friend 👍 your channel is really growing 🎉
Ciao Dana !! Happy that you enjoyed the video, the next time i will try to improve the audio, it is the second video with the new microphone !! 🦾🦾😀😀Ciao Dana !! Alberto
Gday, that’s a great idea using a guide bush, I’ve had plenty of threads that have ended up in the bin from the die not being on centre, thanks for sharing mate, cheers
Morning Matty !! Me too the same, in the last project i did the leadscrew wrong and i had to re-make a new one soon, that was the moment when i said to make something to solve this problem!! Thanks for the comment mate, ciao !! Alberto
Nice tool! Well done.
Cheers, Preso
Ciao Mark !!thank you for your kind comment! It was an old project and after the last video (where i had to make 2 screws because one was wrong) i decided to make something that will help me the next time and so here you see the new video!! See you soon Mark , Ciao !! Alberto.
Nice job Alberto , seems like it works great for those long threads .
Ciao Shane, yes it works very well !! If you try to make a long screw by hand or by lathe, you will probably take by hands the problem, with the lathe it is the tool that can bend the screw, in particular if it is an insert tool holder and not a HSS tool; Ciao Shane take care and see you the next time !! Alerto
Hi Alberto, this is a great tool and I really enjoyed the build, thanks. It sounds like this is something we need to add to our project list
Hi Joseph, it makes the difference between been lucky to go straight and to be sure to arrive at end in the axis !! ☺Very useful from my point of view!! Take care Joseph, thank you for your comment and see you soon!! Alberto.
Simple and effective. Well done.
Thanks Fizzloid! Yes It Is really useful!! Hope to see you again!! A big ciao from Italy, Alberto
Fantastic idea and great execution! I need to see about making one.
Ciao Mick happy you enjoyed the video and the idea! You will not have any problem with long screws at all, thanks for your comment !! See you soon, Alberto
Ciao Alberto!! This was a nice build and one that will be very handy. It enjoyed seeing you make the knurling. I did that procedure once a long time ago and was pretty impressed at how it turned out. Yours is very nice and that knurling will make sure of a firm gripping surface!! Take 'er easy!!!
Ciao dear Mike !! Yes i love knurling and in some cases it makes the difference !! Thanks for your nice comment and i'm happy that you enjoyed the video !! Take care!! Alberto
Nice job. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Don !! Happy to see you again !! And happy that you liked the video, i hope to inspire somebody to make the same !! See you next time !! Alberto
Very nice tool.
Nice job!. The open frame takes care of the chips and you are not confined to one machine or any machine. 👍
Another fantastic video.
Thanks Fred, glad to hear that you liked my video 😀! It Is the most great satisfaction for a creator like me!! I hope to see you again on my channel, Ciao!! Alberto
Very nice tool, Alberto.
Ciao Greg !1 Thanks, hope that somebody will make this tool, because it is very useful !!Take care !! Alberto
@@ab-shop I have added it to my list, just need to start clearing off all the ones above it. :)
I like this one too... lol. Very smart
Thanks Jeremiah, I got several wrong before I went over to this design and solved the long screws issue!
NICE JOB
Thanks RB, i'm glad you like my video!! A big Ciao from Italy, Alberto
Awesome tool! Thanks for sharing!!!

ATB....Dean
Ciao Dean happy to see you!
I made more then 2 long screws wrong by hand, one in the last video too!
In that moment i decided to make something for save me the next time 😂
See you soon Dean!!
Ciao and thanks for your comment,!!
Alberto
I was trying to work out why you were making it like that, then why at all when you clearly had a tailstock die holder right up till when I saw how you used it.
Well done, good work, great idea (though I do most of that sort of work in the lathe.)
Hi Ben, yes the tailstock device that I have allow me to make screws that arrives at 20 (mm) of length, no more, because the hole behind the die is closed, not open through; very happy that you enjoyed the video!!Thanks and Take care! Alberto
Truly amazing!
Thanks for your kind commet MASI ! Glad that you like my video !! A big Ciao from Italy, Alberto.
Bravo!
Ciao Adrian!! Happy to see you here too! 😀And glad that you liked my video!! Ci vediamo presto!! Ciao buona serata! Alberto 😀🇮🇹
Спасибо.
ПРИВЕТ! Я рад, что вам понравилось мое видео!
Autoclave thread making tools
Лайк. Смотрю.
Вообще то. накатывать ручки, нужно возле держателя. Не обязательно, но если много работать, то пальцы стираются. Пардон что не пользуюсь транслит, светлое время, очень коротко , по этому экономлю.
