Late to the party here... I watched a candid backstage video account of this performance and it may not surprise you that Angelina and the guitarist rehearsed this for hours before going on air.
I enjoy your videos it's not every day I get to have someone with your experience explain the things that you talk about in a way that I can understand. And I appreciate that. Thank you
Dr. Marc, thanks for the wonderful analysis and reaction to that incredible little singer, it would be nice to see her reactions with Angelina more often, the material is not missing
Hi Dr. Marc. Within the last few months I have become an Angelina superfan and absolute love/adore/addicted to her voice, most of her songs, and especially the anticipation of what magic is yet to come. I have watched your first reaction to her BR arrangement over a dozen times and absolutely love it. I have no idea why any fan would be angry or have any issue with your reaction - I thought it very positive and loved watching it over and over. I love the technical details and explanations that you give from someone who obviously has a lot of experience and has studied in the field deeply. AWESOME! ;)
I for one, really appreciate your in-depth analysis of Angelina. I think my comment on your last video may have been misinterpreted by a lot of people. I had said that some things are just "magic" that can't be explain... and I stand by that. But it doesn't mean I don't want to hear about the things that _can_ be explained, and you explain them really well. I really hope to see you continue to checkout and analyze Angelina. She has so many master level vocals, with so many unique details that you can relay to your students. The fact that you can spend 15 minutes on her vocals at just 8 years old is enough to indicate that this is someone that should be studied by other singers. Thanks you again for coming back to Angelina!
@Nick Dees I do not know who chose the song.... what I am 95% sure of though is the show is a manufactured illusion. The outcome was known before it started, and the song choice had zero to do with the results.
Nick Dees They couldn’t let her loose she would have dominated the show, and since she wasn’t going to win, they had to put a damper on her performances. If you watch her audition on Norway’s Got Talent, after she finished “Gloomy Sunday” everyone was in shock, and they eventually had to tell the audience that they could go home!
@Nick Dees What?! Do you have _any_ idea how hard it is to perform Yellow Brick Road like that?! I can guarantee you mr. Marc Reynolds will have to agree with me on that! "Any other song" She chose the perfect song (if she was the one that chose it)! What even are you on about??? (Sorry but what you're saying are random conspiracy theories based on nothing, actually the whole arguement is contradictive, if this is not enough; the judges _loved_ the choice of song *AND* complimented her _specifically_ for her choice and performance of it! If anything, it's these "supervoters" who don't really have a clue, or were predetermined (pre performance) of who to vote for. *BUT* All of that is irrelevant! I'd rather _not_ have plastic fans and I'm sure she won't mind neither. She's in it for the music, and I'm sure she'll appreciate having fans that can appreciate what she's doing properly. Sorry for the rant, have a good day.
Hey great reaction! I got to learn a lot about stage performance. I have always wanted to hear expert point of view on Angelina's stage performance. It's amazing how a child performs so confidently and delivers her majestic talent the way she wants. Thank you! I would like to see more reactions on her.
People get so very emotionally invested with some individuals or groups that ANY critique is taken personally. I love your reactions and informative comments.
There's a lot of things I could say here, but I'll stick with the most important thing: I'm proud of you for being able to come back to this. You did a great job, you learned and you refined, but stuck to what you do best. Don't let anybody really change you.
I think those words from the lyrics in this song describes Angelina in two short sentences: *_"Fill my heart with song and let me sing forever more._* *_You are all I long for, all I worship and adore"_* "You" in this case is of course the song, she's singing a love song to _music_ and we can feel it too. We also want to have our hearts filled with her song. Great analysis by the way, and I think at this age she was just too consumed by the music and the singing itself to interact with he audience ... the real world is a blur and she's living in the music.
What amazes me with Angelina is she can sing so well with very little music backup, even acapella, I hear her sing "I'm a Fool for You" by Billy Holiday acapella at 7 years old on NGT. I can sing with music and practice, but I don't hear music in my head to sing acapella.
If I were a singer, I'd want to work with you! I'm a fan of wonderful singing in all styles, from hip hop to opera. Your technical and artistic comments help me understand what makes Angelina's voice so special and so moving. Thanks, and keep the Angelina reactions coming.
You said right. Angelina can sing any genere of song and you can identify her voice. She work hard, but its natural for her. This make the people engaged for her performance.
Always from moment to moment she makes "deliberate choice". Her arrangements, her vocal tones, her interpretations, her musicality make for what I say the MOZART OF THE VOICE.
Thank you for reacting to Angelina again. I found this video very interesting. I hope you will continue to react to her and give your perspective of course. From my point of view Angelina Jordan Astar is unique and has the ability to touch our souls again and again....
Please don't stop your explanations and analysis. I come to you for that. I understand the difference between analysis and ooooo ahhhhhhh. There's more than enough oooooo ahhhh out there.
As a choirsinger I learn from your comments as to how Angelina is using the different tecniques. I try to use some of them myself as to how I use my mouth, by breath and where to put the sound. As to Angelina - she is an angel I have followed since she first appeared on NGT in 2014. A question regarding talent and training; you must also have a gift of musicality to be as good as Angelina? Is it possible to train musicality? I.e Knowing and expressing the rhytm. I think her is so natural. Your next of Angelina should be I put a spell on you. She was only 9, but the tecniques she is using!! Wow! Would love to hear your reaction.
angelina said when she sings she" goes to a place, thinks about the music and has a good time. she said the place she goes to is a very happy place. i think this is why she is outright laughing sometimes as she finishes songs...by the time angelina was 3 - everyone was saying she should enter contests. angelina said she wasn't ready. when she turned 5 - she went to her mother and said she was ready and to sign her up that she wanted to show the world her talent.entered NGT at seven and turned 8 during competition that she won. IMO she is already the GOAT...great analysis...
Thank you for a very good and comprehensive review! I really enjoy listening to your insights! Would love to hear you review her " I put a spell on you"!!
This was an excellent analysis of Angelina's magic voice. This was so much more interesting than your previous reaction where you went into too much physiology & anatomy of the larynx & vocal cords. This was after she won NGT so she was 8 in this. Her voice is amazing, but it is matched by her ability to rearrange old classic songs to make them her own for a new generation to enjoy. She is a songwriter as well with 3 originals so far and a rumored upcoming album of originals to be released on her label shortly after AGT-C airs. The fact that at 14 she is 6 ft tall & looks like a supermodel, makes her the TOTAL PACKAGE.
There's nothing wrong with explaining the physiology for those of us who are there to learn that. The only thing he did wrong was talk too much about the interaction at the beginning.
You mentioned the clarity of her words. You should also consider that English is not even her native tongue. For me one thing that makes her unique is that when she sings, for whatever reason, she has the ability to make ME focus on the lyrics of the song. This was a prime example. I've heard this song a hundred times before and I have sung along with it before. Her voice grabs my attention and I just listen to her sing the words and she manages to put more meaning into them than they ever had before. This has happened with most of the songs I've heard her sing. I get more meaning from the lyrics when she is singing them. Is it just the emotion she puts into it? I don't know what it is, but when she sings, I sit up and take notice.
I would not!!! BUT I would pay $500 to hear her sing "raw", by which I mean 100% acoustic without microphone & speakers and without her voice being fracked about with on an audio mixer by any sound engineer who gives us his/her subjective opinion of how to present her voice. *{;-) **_R_*
Well, for around 500$ ++ you can attend an Angelina and Lionel Richie concert at 2.July. Kongsberg Jazzfestival. The concert ticket is 90$, and the rest 410$ ++ you probably would need for travelling.
@@xpost9381 $90 for the ticket.... but $2800 for airfare for me (I checked). That's a little out of my range, but I would probably (realistically... no exaggeration) spend $1500 to see her live ;)
To point, regarding progress, I’d like to hear your comparative reaction to her rendition of this song practicing for the Quincy Jones 80 celebration. Awesome reaction. 😊
I'm sure you know by now but Angelina has been singing in English since about 5 years old,, in the most part because her favorites are generally American jazz singers... English is her third language, and early on we Americans would get a accent but we love it with Angelina,, she could sing a phone book and kill it!!
Dr. Marc, you must keep in mind that English is not Angelina’s native language. Angelina is Norwegian and for her to have mastered the English language as well as she had when she made this performance is quite remarkable.
Great reaction. Can not see why anyone would be unhappy with your other reaction as it was equally informative. Angelina has many voices and with your expertise it would be fun to see you react to more Angelina. How about, A Song for A, Valerie, You Don't Own Me, I Put a Spell on You, Nothing Breaks Like A Heart, I'm Still Holding Out for You, Stay and You Make Me Feel So Young. These songs show a wide variety of her many voices. Thank you and yes please take down the first comment on this page.
Angelina Jordan is very calm relaxed like relax a little girl she never gets nervous that’s gonna hurt that no worries got talent but she get nervous. She said no
the thing i think of when i hear angeline is that she is the best vocalist in the world, mainly because she sings songs sung by male and female artists that sound as good as anyone she cover, if not better
I think you very good what you do Jordan the bright and shining star she gonna be Shining for a very long time to come! She got picked up by Republic records we’re going to let her write her own music arrange your own music which is awesome her mother her little sister and her uncle which is for a manager I moved to Los Angeles California while she’s going to school read she’s not When she won Norway’s got talent she got paid equipment and what about our moneythey donated that money to charity admirable she has great character She’s 17 now and has a new song out to sign Republic records at age 14. Love you don’t let me go very nice song is this current shot in black-and-white still barefoot she’s been around the world singing. She sang for rent to Jones and Edith birthday. invite her to come in saying and you said she your minds are Michael Jackson back in the day
IMHO, your backgrounds leads you to analyze based on a physical performance(not a criticism). You like a lot of movement that can engage the audience. I love Angelina, but she is not a singer with lots of flourishes and body language. Angela is very enigmatic with respect to a visual performance. Yet to me that is very endearing and is a tell as to where her attention is focused, and that’s on timing, tone and other stylistic form. She does have a presence on stage that makes me want to watch and hear her, I can’t describe musically what does that to me, but sometimes it’s just about enjoying without explanation.
This reaction/analysis was far better then your first of Angelina. Last one you forgot totally about Angelina and you made some weird comments about things she did wrong.... This was better and more accurate
Can you please react to Angelina Jordan singing : Song For A (by Nico Cartosio) And yes be very carefull , we the fans are very protective of our Angelina
Watching this video was like watching a toddler fall into a pool filled with Piranha Fish as they leave nothing on the bones. A sad fact is Dr. Marc Reynolds, on the left side has done 8 reactions to Angelina Jordan, and in each of these he was blown away by her talent, and never had a negative thing to say. As a matter of fact, he suggested that his students watch these videos as a learning tool Let us not forget; not a single one of these 3 can name someone that they have coached that has signed with a major record label, I asked that question and did not get an answer.
I rewrite the below lyric while First time I see the "The Martian" Trailer a few years ago. Sorry you got "angry" comments before! You're analyzing Angelina's singing from a vocal coache's point of view and in that respect, you may have some genuine criticism to some notes or ways she places her voice. In my opinion, this detract from how amazing she is. The regular fan only cares about the emotion, the style she conveys when she sings. So to each other their own ;)
Dr Marc... can you please go delete the bottom comment on this post? It should not be allowed to remain.... and you should probably block that user as well ...you can delete this comment too when it's done... or I will come back and delete it later ...Thank You
@@karolyn8644 thanks... I was going to delete this comment after he removed the creepy post, but I decided to leave it to encourage others to speak up when they see stuff like that. ...and at this point it would be deleting 5 comments off his video.... the comment count matters when it comes to the algorithms ;)
why are you interested in the unqualified statements of others? You are musically versed and have the necessary knowledge. For this reason I am looking at your reactions! People who are angry about a technical statement from you either have no brains or have no idea about music and should stay out of this topic! Please continue as I know you guys. Good technical explanations regarding the singing qualities, analyze the singers and your own opinion should you also say ...? or are we already living in an opinion dictatorship all over the planet?
You made a lot of people angry, did you? That can happen, with us Angelina fans... We're a very mixed bunch, but completely united in our adoration of Angelina and her artistic talent. I went and checked your previous video. Turns out I'd already seen it, but not commented. I guess I just watched it, thought "well, that was a lot of dry talk and detail focus, but interesting enough, I guess", and moved on. I'm to dry myself to be offended by the dryness of someone else. Others seem to have taken your dry approach personally. Sorry about that. Though, as it pushed you to improve your performance, I guess it worked out. Sometimes you teach, sometimes you learn, sometimes you do both. In their defense, there's a limit to how much detail it makes sense to go into, before you've heard more than a few notes. It's frustrating to hear speculations, or, even worse, conclusions that you know are wrong or irrelevant. While I found your analyses informative, I think I would've enjoyed it better if there were fewer and shorter comments while it played, and then had the more detailed analysis in light of the whole. It would eliminate some of the speculation, as well. I guess that your generalizing, and time spent on things not specific to the song or artist, are a part of your job: to teach. Those of us who feel no attraction to performing music ourselves will just have to put up with it ;) I enjoyed your videos as they are. I especially enjoyed the observations about her growth. I find that what she did when she was younger, she did very well; so well that improvements run the risk of being sterile. Instead, much of her growth has come from constantly expanding and elaborating. Though, admittedly, I worry that she may be loosing the ability to present some roughness... Oh, and, while writing this, I figured out why so many people got angry with you: You were explaining elements of Angelina's talent in technical terms, when so many have settled on "magic" as the most rational explanation they can find. I'm sure you really can explain much of what she does, and maybe the entire technical aspect of it. I'm also sure that, after having watched this early performance, you realize that there aren't any easy or certain explanations for the whole of it, nor for how it could come together in such a young girl. Especially inexplicable, in my opinion, is that a child can add such emotional and artistic depth to a performance; it goes beyond mere technique, and it's hard to see how it can be learned. I'm not saying it's magic, just that it's awesomely mysterious, and that I don't want all the mystery solved. I think I share that with many, and, if someone seems like they might try to take the mystery away, we may get defensive if we fear they may succeed, or angry that they dare think they may succeed. Perhaps even both.
I don’t have no problem I don’t get any room in my review anything because sometimes I don’t be going to a blind and I don’t know they just do it as long as random OK bye-bye man she’s at years old she just won the competition in Norway, and they are on the view mirror
People understand a reaction critique is necessary, but we would also like to enjoy the performance, as well as some reactions. Beyond a certain limit, it gets boring.
3:10 How much effort she puts into shaping each syllable also involves something very basic - she's trying to enunciate and shape notes while missing a lot of teeth, having unequal closure of her mouth. All that on top of getting this sound out of a tiny vocal tract.
I want to try and she’s had was the 55th grade at school program and she just typing looking for multiple languages first language Shuffle in the Middle East for a short time. I am a grandma It’s the restaurant introduced to the jazz but she was so I enter so happy she loved Jack have your name what’s your not like you are but she what is the saying that you’re back in study not going to Washington you’re a holiday Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, did you saw others Rebecca Betsy Smith in the blue thing a year year year ago Louis Armstrong Billie Holiday she loves Billie Holiday that’s what I love
As a professional Jazz singer, that sound that she is making is way far from what jazz singing is. I don't associate this sound with jazz, but rather with Amy Winehouse and the entire movement that followed her, alongside the more recent French movement of singers (Madelaine Peyroux, Cyrille Aimee' & co) who got influenced by Amy and other non-traditional jazz singers who simply had listened to jazz any now and then. Just saying.

I think those words from the lyrics in this song describes Angelina in two short sentences:

Nice break down
She is singing in her third language also, which may make a difference. I heard her sing in Japanese and they said she didn't miss a beat.
I think you very good what you do Jordan the bright and shining star she gonna be Shining for a very long time to come! She got picked up by Republic records we’re going to let her write her own music arrange your own music which is awesome her mother her little sister and her uncle which is for a manager I moved to Los Angeles California while she’s going to school read she’s not
When she won Norway’s got talent she got paid equipment and what about our moneythey donated that money to charity admirable she has great character
She’s 17 now and has a new song out to sign Republic records at age 14.
You forgot something: she is also Norwegian so English isn't her first language!
True! Another thing that is amazing about her!
Should also try her official acoustic version of Fly. TY
Dr, You must here three other songs by Angelina. A Million Years Ago, Born to Die and best of all I put a Spell on YOu.
This reaction/analysis was far better then your first of Angelina. Last one you forgot totally about Angelina and you made some weird comments about things she did wrong....
This was better and more accurate
Please react to her singing "I'll be there" in Sweden, and "Something's got a hold on me."
I think you might benefit from hearing AJ's low voice in How Great Thou Art or her power voice It's A Man's World
Can you please react to Angelina Jordan singing : Song For A (by Nico Cartosio)
And yes be very carefull , we the fans are very protective of our Angelina
14:41 She's also Norwegian so that's her mother language, not English :p
I'll be there.
Check Angelina's outdoor concert in Norway of the same song.
One more of the amazing things is English is Angelina's third language.
You didn't make me angry. :D
She's singing in a language who is not her own, she's from Norway!
One other thing to take into consideration is that she is singing in her third language.
Fly me to the Mars and
1+ 7 6 5 4 5
Let me get stuck with those stars,
6 1+ 7 1+ 2+ 7 5
No one gonna to bring me back home
6 5 4 4 3 2 3 4 6
And even tell me why
6 5#3 3+ 2+ 1+
In others words
2 2 6 6
They Adopted me
6 6 7 5 5
In others words
2 2 4 4
They try to kill me
1+ 1+ 1+ 7 7
Oh.....I am growing potato here!
🤣
English is her third out of five languages.
can you do a reaction to Grace Vanderwaal voice? very curious.
Esperé tanto para verla pero tus comentarios me abrumaron!! Mucho corte!!
Not sure how much life experience she got from 7 to 8 LOL
Sorry you got "angry" comments before! You're analyzing Angelina's singing from a vocal coache's point of view and in that respect, you may have some genuine criticism to some notes or ways she places her voice. In my opinion, this detract from how amazing she is. The regular fan only cares about the emotion, the style she conveys when she sings. So to each other their own ;)
Dr Marc... can you please go delete the bottom comment on this post?
It should not be allowed to remain.... and you should probably block that user as well
...you can delete this comment too when it's done... or I will come back and delete it later ...Thank You
I've just reported it. Never did that before tho so im not sure if that works or helps in anyway
Thank you!
Thank you, Rusty, for bringing that creepy comment to Marc's attention.
Those of us who feel no attraction to performing music ourselves will just have to put up with it ;)
I enjoyed your videos as they are.
I don’t have no problem I don’t get any room in my review anything because sometimes I don’t be going to a blind and I don’t know they just do it as long as random OK bye-bye man she’s at years old she just won the competition in Norway, and they are on the view mirror
react to Angelina Jordan " born to die"
People understand a reaction critique is necessary, but we would also like to enjoy the performance, as well as some reactions. Beyond a certain limit, it gets boring.
Dr marc reynolds please give your reaction about Alejandro Aranda as a singer...thanks very much.
3:10 How much effort she puts into shaping each syllable also involves something very basic - she's trying to enunciate and shape notes while missing a lot of teeth, having unequal closure of her mouth. All that on top of getting this sound out of a tiny vocal tract.
I want to try and she’s had was the 55th grade at school program and she just typing looking for multiple languages first language
Shuffle in the Middle East for a short time. I am a grandma
It’s the restaurant introduced to the jazz but she was so I enter so happy she loved Jack have your name what’s your not like you are but she what is the saying that you’re back in study not going to Washington you’re a holiday Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, did you saw others Rebecca Betsy Smith in the blue thing a year year year ago Louis Armstrong Billie Holiday she loves Billie Holiday that’s what I love
In hopes that one day he will😂
Please react to Loic Nottet million eyes live. Or chandelier live the short clip where he is singing to himself.
It would be awesome if you could make a analysis on Conner Reeves - Ordinary People. Great voice and song
There are many different styles within jazz. Clearly Billie Holiday, one of the great jazz singers, influenced her early style. Just saying.
....you are much of bla bla bla...
Please have time to react to Marcelito Pomoy on AGT...
Please don't.
