Angelina is a product of many stars aligning in a perfect way. She was born with not only a love for music, but also an ear for it. She was introduced to "real" music at a very early age. She was fortunate enough to be born into a family that supported and nurtured her passion... in a country that still puts a priority on the arts in schools. Those are the 'situational' factors. But I think something that is probably the most important factor is her overall personality. She is a very humble person, with a huge sense of empathy for others. When she takes off those shoes to perform, and remembers the little girl from years ago, she enters a world of love. Love for people, love for music... and the result is something that is on its own level of excellence.
That's some of what makes her so great. The rest is just something unexplainable ;)

Angelina really is the most humble girl. And it shows through her singing. She is not trying to impress, with high notes and acrobatics. She is delivering her songs with so much emotion, soul and passion. So many people do not understand the meaning of that. They think all is about striking those notes with power, and rushing it through. Just look at how Angelina has taken her time in her songs, her back phrasing and negative space, all the way back to when she was 7 years old. She is a master of timing, and that is why she mostly does not need more than one take, and why she kills every live performance. She finds just that perfect balance to capture our hearts. Adding her incredible runs and vibrato, make her complete. She is indeed one of a kind. Thank you, Marc, for an insightful reaction 👍

Hear, Hear! Beautifully written Sarlina. Angelina has so many qualities that make her special, but one that is often overlooked is her restraint. She likes to slow things down. Several people have made mash ups of Angelina covering famous singers' songs, along with the original singers. When they lay their vocals on top of each other (duet), they often have to slow the original down; sometimes as much as 20%. Most young singers are in a hurry. But as you said, Angelina takes her time and uses back phrasing and negative space to develop the effect she wants; a real professional. For me, her restraint is just remarkable. Hope all is well with you and yours Sarlina. 💕💕

Sarlina, you and William really have it covered. I think her performance of "Bang, Bang" was the first time I really noticed that. During the song I kept tensing up and waiting for the rushed note or too much push in the tone and it never happened and I was astounded at her restraint and consistency. In some other performances ("I Put a Spell On You" comes to mind) there is so much other stuff going on and there is so much "Wow" factor that it's harder to note what is so easily perceived in "Bang, Bang".

Any singer that can effect you emotionally like Angelina does, is way more than a vocalist. Every time she sings, she sings, gives you a gift of her heart, and she plunges it it into you like a spear. I won't listen to her around people. I don't want them to see how emotional I get.

In every interview I have ever seen with her, she does appear to be humble and even a little shy. I think music is her main way of communication. She must even think musically (in her head).

From the very first video showing her getting ready to sing "Gloomy Sunday" at NGT I recall seeing her grab her stuff and begin leaving the sitting area (I guess someone called for her). She is 7yo yet walking with incredible focus and purpose, then a few minutes later on the stage, unflappable confidence and serenity on display. When she is behind a microphone that's what you always see from her. Only in interviews does she ever seem a little hesitant and/or nervous (and that could be due to language translation more than nerves). I think people really sense that calm, nearly absolute and unmistakable "I got this" stage presence (but as you said always with humility). She has no doubt (or as she says in this video "I'll never regret what I do"). I think God has gifted her (for his unfolding purposes) with every tool she needs (vocal toolkit, musical IQ and retention, emotive sensibilities, intelligence, work ethic, attractiveness, modesty, authenticity), and that inherent confidence (even fearlessness) is a part of it. It is revealed when she decides to completely transform "Bohemian Rhapsody" in what was arguably a very high-pressure setting..first time as a mature young lady in America before Simon, before the American public in the millions, and changing up one of the most iconic songs (maybe the most iconic). Yet she waits until the hall was totally quiet, starts a cappella and delivers a masterpiece at 13yo. It's also easily present in her concert at the fort on the Norway/Sweden border, "What a Difference a Day Makes" when she at 8yo is isolated on a tiny stage 15m from her backup singers and 15 more from the band yet she closes her eyes, sways a little, and owns the song in front of a large crowd in an outdoor setting. Vocal skills alone are not enough to explain such. People instinctively relate to her. Then when we learn why she doesn't wear shoes and watch her do more things she ought not be able to do, and feel her touch our hearts, the trap is sprung.

  • @shabkarpa
    @shabkarpa 3 года назад +19

She's said that she is never afraid when she sings, that singing is as important as breathing to her, that when she sings she goes to a place that is "pure happiness," "amazing,'" "endless." You notice how often she closes her eyes and goes inside when she is singing. She's a vocal genius, but more than that that, she's humble and kind. I think she has access to what some might call "mystic experiences," both when she sings and at other times, like when she gives her shoes to the street vendor and says that a stairway to heaven opened in her heart.

She is an artist whose pallet is sound and her canvas is the air. And what is art? It is the outward expression of the innermost person. It is soulspeak. Soulspeak allows us to participate with the Creator in bringing into being that which was naught. In so doing, we demonstrate that we are created in the image of God.

She is music. She came out of the womb music. There has never been, one like her. There have been many that have come close, but she is queen of the mountain.

I had a professional relationship with the great trumpet player, Doc Severinsen. One thing he told me was that, no matter how good you think you are as a musician (or anything else), there is always someone who does it better than you. Even he sought out advice from the great classical and jazz trumpet players of the day because he was always trying to improve himself. I think Angelina probably still takes lessons (or gets advice) from vocal coaches who suggest things (I don't believe anyone TELLS her what to do) that will help her to become a better singer. I'm sure she is like Doc in that she always wants to improve herself and her astounding talent.

I think Angie would be much too humble and I guess also much too clever to put herself on a pedastal that way.
Professional feedback from your peers in the business is always valuable. Even if you dont agree with it it can sharpen your own opinion about it.
And if she creates a master piece, why not talk about some of the building blocks she used. Love for music is not about keeping it to yourself but spreading it.

According to known family background (provided largely by Rusty S., bless him!), we know that Angelina has been exposed to various genres of music (jazz being the most influential) since probably her birth. Her Mom Sara and, particularly, her Grandmom Mery have been largely instrumental in this. Angelina was "captured" by Whitney's "I Will Always Love You" at 18 months old, and did an amazing attempt to sing it (there is a YT video of this). In my opinion, I believe the answer to your question as to how she can convey thoughts and feelings maturely beyond her years lies in this. The cognitive functions of a baby, toddler, and young child are like sponges. Combine that with the development of an innate (or early developmental) interest in a subject or activity, and you potentially have the makings of something -- or someone -- extraordinary. Angelina began studying and learning jazz at the age of three -- literally! At the age of SIX, she was knocking out Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" and Tom Jones' "I Who Have Nothing" in her music school's recording studio! So, I believe that all the aforementioned things combined within her mind, emotions, heart, etc., along with the huge probability that Angelina is a natural empath, and you have someone whose musical, emotional, and probably intellectual I.Q.'s may qualify for membership in the Mensa organization! Hence,, by definition, we have a prodigy with a heart and soul to match her astounding and exquisite voice. A BLESSING in our lifetime!

So great to see Angelina sing live again, especially with this healing song in troubled times. The artwork she and grandma did for the original release was awesome, but this magnificent video is epic! I think this will rival her other B&W from years past. I'm so happy for her successes all these years, and I think she has found a great home at Republic for her talent. Her uncle Michael deserves a lot of credit too, and of course her mother Sara for her protection and sharing her with the world. And we can’t forget grandma Mery for helping introduce Angelina to jazz, documenting her life on video, and being her mentor. One day I'll get my greatest wish, to see Angelina sing in person. Angie’s fans will treasure this performance forever. And to Angelina I say, thank you so, so much for all the wonderful music you have given all of us over the years, and for your humanity for others less fortunate. It’s not just your voice Angelina, you yourself truly are the “gift from the universe.”

She wrote this song to her grandfather who is in heaven. That is why she was gesturing upward so much during this song. Her gestures are usually pretty closed, touching herself, her heart as she emotes. She was a child prodigy so her music came naturally. She also has absolutely LOVED to sing since she was tiny. She said once during an interview at age 7 that she wanted to be a superstar when she grew up. Guess what? She’s on her way!

There are two attributes that immediately jumps out in all of her performances and that is Angelina’s heart felt sincerity and honesty. There is no pretentiousness or self aggrandizing ego in her facial expressions, body language and performances. She bares her soul in every performance and in doing so her audience feels a visceral connection between her soul and ours. It’s what makes her performances so mesmerizing, captivating and hypnotic. We not only become wholly immersed in every word and note she sings, but we feel the intense passion and emotions that Angelina is conveying. Her vocal versatility and range for someone her age is unmatched.
Bye the way, Angelina turns fifteen, January 10, 2021.

Thank you for your insights. Nice reaction. Angelina’s authenticity comes across immediately in the ways you describe, but also when you consider how much of herself she is sharing by writing such personal lyrics about her life. But it’s more than that. She conveys the same involvement and emotion with songs like Yellow Brick Road or A Million Years Ago. Total commitment. We see her living the lyrics of whatever she’s singing.
You described how her vocal techniques, body language, and emphasis contribute to her mature sound. I’m sure you’re 100% right on the technical aspects, but I’d like to also add that Angelina has that insanely beautiful and flexible voice. I don’t know anyone who covers so many styles so authentically. And finally, as you described, her vocal style often sounds like a wave ebbing and flowing, but Angelina doesn’t give you the crescendo where you expect it-so you’re always listening so closely. I’ve never been as completely captivated by a singer as Angelina.

Awesome review as usual, Marc! I thoroughly enjoyed it :)
I agree with what Peter Howells says 100% First and foremost, Angelina KNEW what she wanted to do in life since she was a very young child. She has music ingrained in her soul and body. Also, the loving environment in which Angelina was raised, her family's constant support to her dreams, as well as the artistic background in her family are all things that have molded her into the singer, musician AND human being she is.
I don't know her personally either but from watching her singing, the interviews she's done, the book she wrote, she is a loving, caring and humble person. As you pointed out Marc, her body language says it all and if you watch as many of her performances as I have, you'll notice she naturally uses her hands a lot to express her feelings and how she wants to transmit her message.
We are truly witnessing the trajectory of one of the best musicians of this century, matching with ease those of the XXth. 😊
BTW, this Sunday, January 10th she'll be 15 years old!!! I encourage everyone who isn't subscribed to her channel to do so, and maybe leave a message of birthday wishes to show her our love and support 💕

Let's remember, after we've used up all the superlatives, she's a 15 year old teenager, with all that teenager stuff going on in the background. I feel the need to give her lots of room to explore herself and her artistry and maybe make a mistake or two, and perhaps not do it quite right sometimes. When I see a video of her standing on a sidewalk, in the snow, with the crowd bustling by, paying her no attention, singing a Christmas carol a cappella, apparently just because she wants to, I think, she's doing just fine.

I really appreciate your analysis. You're doing one thing while most reactors are doing something completely different, and still, often completely miss the point. I'm hoping Angelina will be able to create a revolution in the music/entertainment industry. She has stated that her intention, from the beginning, is to share Love with everyone in the world. That sharing is actually blocked by people being fixated on watching on a performance, rather than being open to the subtle command of her ability to modify the sounds, as you point out. She is not interested in entertaining us as her controlled body and closed eyes convey. We need only to close our eyes, relax our body and open ourselves to listening deeply, to gain the full benefit of what she is offering us. It's interesting to know what she's doing to make her voice so capable of breaking through our defenses and feel something!

Thank you, Marc, for another great reaction to and analysis of Angelina. I agree that the emphasis she puts on certain words and syllables contributes to her ability to make emotional connections with her audience. I also believe another reason she can do that is her impeccable enunciation in general. We can understand every word, every syllable and every inflection she sings. There was another singer years ago who had the same gift and became a superstar. His name was Frank Sinatra!

Her humble character...I believe it's a combination of issues, as such things always are. She is Norwegian by birth, but her father is a tall Swedish petroleum engineer (a year ago she was said to measure 187cm). Her mother, and uncle/manager, are Japanese/Iranian. They spent their childhood in Japan and are Japanese fluent. Angelina has performed in Japan and sang one song in Japanese, which is not to say that she is fluent. She may speak some Farsi. Her grandmother is the well known Iranian artist, Mery Zamani. Angelina has called her mother her shield, and wrote a song to that effect when she was 11/12. She has called Mery her inspiration and mentor.
She attended Oslo Waldorf School from a very young age. That school has a significantly different teaching philosophy than your typical public school...far too much to go into here. She was very close to her maternal (Japanese) grandfather. He would take her along when he would go out evenings to give food to the homeless. He died in 2019. This song is her homage to him, and, she says, for anyone who has lost someone that they loved.
I'm sure you've already read why she performs barefoot, so I don't need to repeat it. Finally, is that enough material from which to draw conclusions about why she is who she is? She's a complex subject, verdad?😉

Steve, Where do you get information about her maternal grandfather being Japanese? That he takes her to give food to the homeless? Just wondering. We all know about the grandmother and the family living in Japan, but nothing in the family names (Jordan, etc.) or Angelina's features suggest a Japanese lineage. As an AJ fan I would not ask this question (respect privacy) if Angelina does not make the grandfather a central figure in her two songs.

    • @yousurf374
      @yousurf374 3 года назад +2

@@SophisticatedLang both grandfathers are deceased... Could be the swedish grandfaterh she references as inspiration? Not clear.... We do know her maternal grandmother IS her major inspiration for sure. WE DO NOT know if her Maternal grandfather was of JAPANESE heritage or of other and just GREW UP or LIVED in Japan as a citizen.... it is NOT all monolithic, so I agree with your point.
Also, Jordan is her middle name... her LAST NAME is ASTAR... Sara Astar is her mom... Micheal ??? name unknown to me but he is her uncle/manager.... Meri Zemani (spelling) is the maternal grandmother, so it all does get a bit lost about the maternal grandmother to me also.. The hair , as with uncle Michael as well, could be due to Persian or due to Japanese.... Some mystery here for sure. Maybe a family member could clear it up someday, if it matters to be asked or wondered about with intrigue.

Angelina's great strength is that she is an empath. She has been able, since she was a small child, to hear the emotions in music, internalize them and communicate them through her singing. She has always been able to tap, amplify and communicate emotions EVEN IF SHE HAS NEVER ACTUALLY FELT THEM HERSELF. It seems to me she would listen to a song she wanted to cover, and while she was analyzing it musically, part of her process (and it may not even be a conscious part) is to hear the emotion in the vocal, match it with the emotion in her that would most closely evoke that feeling, and use that to inform her own vocal performance. If necessary she would rework the lyrics to help accomplish this. I could be totally full of it, but this is how it seems to me. And the result, when this empathy is combined with her incredible musicality and her total professionalism developed, practically as a toddler, is what leaves people stunned and mumbling about 'old souls'. Of course, having a ton of natural talent and being raised in a loving and musical environment and exposed to Jazz since being a baby certainly helped.

For the first time I hear and feel the lyrics of songs that I have heard several times by other artists, but never "heard" before. She is truly unique. I just love her and have followed her since 2014.❤ Also loved your reaction with all your knowledge and the explanations of technique. ❤

I always have a problem with these types of videos where someone tries to break down things like facial tension, jaw and tongue position, where artists put emphasis on words, etc. Yes, Angelina has had a lot of training, but she was doing this at 6 years of age and she didn't have a lot of training then. Angelina does the things she does because it comes naturally to her. Has she learned some techniques to help her through her training? I am sure she has, but I am also sure she is not consciously thinking of any of them when performing. She simply becomes the song, becomes the emotion, and then delivers it unlike anyone I have ever heard. There are A LOT of great singers, there is only one Angelina Jordan.

While many say Angelina is an old soul, I think she is a very empathic soul, which, from my knowledge, was encouraged by her grandfather, whose passing is the subject of this song. I think her empathy allowed her to pick up on her grandmothers love of jazz, and to make her grandmother happy, she tried singing, and as an artist herself, her grandmother encouraged this side. While encouragement is great, I think the biggest factor is Angelina's hearing. The clue to this is her mane of hair from an early age. I remembered from biology the hair follicles in the inner ear, so basically I think she could hear extremely well at an extremely young age. A couple of side notes. First on how music effects the brain, music doesn't just effect the audio cortex, it engages other parts of the brain. Second the rapid neural connections and brain development of the young, allowed music to guide her development, to give her a very unique, innate knowledge of music. Know she is just developing her voice, and song writing to match what she has in her head. Also, when you put all her covers together, it's kind of like a Tarantino soundtrack.

  • @gebendeavors907
    @gebendeavors907 3 года назад +2

Angelina’s manager from the beginning is her uncle Michael Astar.
Michael was raised in Japan and music was always his passion. After his family moved to Norway, Michael became a hip-hop DJ. As a 16-year old he was a DJ at 21+ night clubs in Oslo, Norway, getting the gigs because he looked older and no one asked his age before being hired.
After getting tired of being a DJ, Michael started a music management company in 2013, and 3 months later, with no clients yet, Angelina signed-up to try out for Norway’s Got Talent. Angelina’s first audition when 7-years old was a cover of Billie Holiday’s song “Gloomy Sunday” that went viral when it got uploaded to RUclips. Then Angelina won Norway’s Got Talent, had other viral RUclipss, performed on Norway, US and other TV shows and her career started to take off. Eventually she had over 1 billion views of her performances on RUclips and Facebook before Angelina’s appearances on the American’s Got Talent - The Champions show. Her performances their further accelerated her career.
At this point, Angelina asked her uncle Michael if it was possible for her to move to the US to pursue her music dreams. Michael says this was a tough call, and he asked himself questions like; how on earth are you going to pull this off? What about a VISA? What about finances? Are you willing to sell everything you have and own, and also get a loan to risk everything? Michael related that “These were questions I had to ask myself, several times a day. Then, I remembered, what did my mom do when she went to Japan? She didn’t even talk Japanese or knew anyone. She did it because she risked everything for a better future.”
So, Michael flew alone to Los Angeles, studied and learned anything he could learn from the people he got to know during his time in the Industry. After gathering a bunch of people, he came back to Norway and started the process. He indicated that “A few months later, I told her, PACK YOUR BAGS! We are going next week to pursue your dream! All in baby. Her smile made it all worth the hassle.”
“We stayed patient because the way this industry works is bizarre and you have to dodge bullets right and left to get anywhere. But would I do it again? Of course! Life without challenge is boring," Michael says.
For Michael, a lot of his time involves talking with industry people, to see what’s happening out there. Having recently become a father and with COVID-19, time has become even busier and more crazy than usual. “There is a lot of stuff happening with Angelina, and it requires daily briefings with a lot of people.”
America’s Got Talent had always been interested in bringing Angelina to the show, but with their normal contract, artists are being locked into a label, management, and other things for many years. Michael says that it did not matter if you get exposure or not, it was out of the question to give away that many rights.
This kind of patience eventually paid off. Michael said that “Some time passed and they again contacted me, asking if she wanted to sing on their show. I convinced them to give me a contract where Angelina is free from any deal if she performs, she is great for their TV show and Angelina will get the exposure she needs to breakthrough, because I knew, the talent is one of the kind like no other, I just needed her to be seen and was on a daily hunt for how to get the right spot for her in the USA.”
After, Angelina’s success on America’s Got Talent, she eventually signed with Republic Records in August 2020 where Angelina was told she was Republic’s highest priority new artist. Michael says the commitment with the right interest in mind has been one of the most important things when choosing a team and partners to be part of Angelina’s team. “You also need to choose someone with the right chemistry. These are the people you have to deal with on a daily basis, you have to have a good feeling and chemistry with the team you choose.”
Although no specifics yet, Michael says that the plans for Angelina include going global.
Advice from Michael: “Go with your instinct, it never fails, crazy how nature does that. Always be humble, you get way further being a nice person, people tend to be nice back. Always read the contract. Find a good lawyer (It’s super hard to find the good one, but with dedication, you can). Don’t rely on people, you want something done? Do it yourself. If you are good at something, never do it for free (Quote from the Joker).”

Even as a little girl she was able to convey the hurt and pain in a song. Not to mention understanding of the power of phrasing in singing. She doesn’t use tricks and embellishments unless it’s at the service of meaning of the song.

I believe in this performance it's appropriate that she keeps her arms close to her instead of swinging her arms around because it's a personal story, a personal emotion. I also have come ti understand that she rarely sings a song the same way twice, although she can, it’s because she sings based on how she feels ant that moment. She really sings from her heart and uses her musical talent, not to impress but to connect to her audience. Is die’s not matter if at a large concert or just her and her phone, it’s always about connecting to and spreading love, peace and happiness to us, the listener.

ithink she became fascinated with singing since she was tiny .. literally. (have you seen that video of her at one and a half years old where she picks up the mic (can barely pick it up) and then she sings right into the mic, head back as if belting and puts the mic back down ..)
So i believe that fascination was complete and not just for singing but specifically jazz, because that's what her grandmother loved and played. From that young she was inexplicable devoted to being able to make the sounds she was hearing. That's my take. she was so focused and into it that she became super disciplined but from passion rather than strictness. She is magnificent.

A genius lady at my workplace once told me that when she is conversing with somebody and is bored that she spelled each word backwards in her head as she listed to them talk. This made me think that like 1 in a million people or so have a powerful brain that even a strait-A student or a person with a doctorate can't even comprehend. Hence, Angelina may be one of these types of people that can just see the music in her head WAY better than everybody else that thinks they know what music is and therefore can manipulate it like a glassblower does glass. When I was a little of seven I was put in a highly competitive church choir. I did my 1st solo at nine. I can't remember ever being motivated by any religious meaning or any spiritual devotion. What I remember is that I loved singing and that I made people feel good. That's all that mattered. Angelina feels the music, pure and simple. At the age of 7 she sang "Gloomy Sunday". When she asked what the song meant she said it was about being sad. Angelina feels a song as much as hears it. That is why she can sing any song and not need to know what it means. As she gets older she will understand the lyrics but I hope that it doesn't detract from the way she feels music.

It's 15 June 2022 and I've just read all the comments since this was posted on 8 January 2021 ... mostly very generous and informed responses to the question 'what makes Angelina Jordan awesome'? I am 25 days away from seeing (and hearing) AJ for the first time in concert in Norway and here are my thoughts having tracked her every performance, rehearsal, interview and even TickTocks for a couple of years: Why is this artist affecting me viscerally every time she opens her mouth, like no other has over countless years of listening to music of all kinds? I'm still far from a full understanding, but I think I can offer a couple of clues that have helped me make some sense of it. Her grandma, Mery Zamani, exposed her to recordings of popular, jazz and blues singers, starting when she was still in the cradle. That's where her deep understanding of rhythm, melodic structure, timing, vocalisation, the power of negative space and, importantly, improvisation, came from ... she just binged on listening to the top singers of the past until her brain was saturated and it became part of her persona. Apart from her uncle/manager Michael Astar, who was a DJ in Oslo in his youth, there are no actual musicians in her family as far as we fans have been able to discover and so there was nobody at home to teach her how to sing ... she can only have taught herself by trial, error and a sort of symbiosis ... all generated from listening to and emulating her idols ... Ella, Etta, Billie, Frank and the others.
At the age of six, she was profoundly affected by her encounter with the 'shoeless girl' which exposed her, perhaps for the first time, to the deep unfairness of the gulf between rich and poor. She wanted to do something about it, but must have instinctively realised that she needed a public platform to spread her message worldwide. If you really want to delve into how this revelation triggered her subsequent determination to 'become a star', just read her book, which is available in English as a download from her online merch store. Lastly, and possibly also arising from that encounter ... she has a highly developed empathy for the emotional states of others, even indirectly through the songs they write and the artists who sing them. Armed with these insights and fired now with a burning ambition, she synthesised all these elements, kicked off her shoes and stepped up to the nearest microphone to begin pouring out a firehose of soul with a fearless, honest clarity ... IMHO that's why I and other grown men and women have found to their surprise that they tear up whenever Angelina Jordan Astar sings. R (Australia)

Why is Angelina as comfortably vulnerable as she appears to be?
Likely answer: Parents, grandparents and the entire Norwegian society - her SHIELD - a safe and loving environment where being able to express unusually strong emotions is acceptable, even cherished? She is certainly uniquely able to express emotions she absorbs from the songs she is covering. In a song she composed herself, coming from her own generous heart, there is no need to ask where the emotions come from. Her ability to allow the audience to take part in the emotions is exceptional.

About her humility, She has an original song "Shield" it is about her family, and in the song, she says the phrase "forgive me for what I am" well what she is and wants to be is a world-class singer, but she is very aware the sacrifices that her family is making for her to help her achieve that. She wrote that song when she was 12, what 12 year old understands the sacrifices made for them, not many that I know. I think you would like "Shield" there is a live version. She is always very open on her channel and her channel that her grandmother has of her rehearsals, there are videos of her working out how she is going to sing something experimenting with different sounds not everything on her channel is performance perfect and she is not afraid to show it.

Happy New Year Marc and thank you very much for this wonderful analysis of Angelina's vocal techniques in general and in particular in this wonderful musical gem that is Million Miles. I have listened and watched Angelina for a long time and she has always transmitted to me her great confidence in her abilities, both musical and understanding, she never shows hesitation or hesitation, identifies the path to follow and does it, with great conviction and absolute security.
It's as if she had incorporated within herself a vocal / interpretative analyzer, connected with a great capacity of analysis and musical extrapolation that she uses with the songs she plays or writes. If we think of her first performances at a very tender age, no one could have expected so much maturity in analysis and interpretation, yet she did it much quietly. Probably, the family environment that has always provided her with great support has helped her self-esteem and her choices, combined with the early exposure to so much high quality and expressive music, have helped the formation of her character and her musical taste. I don't think we will ever see Angelina interpret songs in the manner of other young singers, she seems to have at the same time a great respect for her choices and the songs she plays, as you have pointed out, she has great composure and an innate elegance, and interprets songs, as he probably interprets his life, with a lot of self-awareness and a lot of simplicity. She does not need excesses to express and communicate, in an absolutely unique way, the emotions she feels in interpreting the songs she chooses.

She was born with music in her bones. When you hear her singing at age 6 or 7 it is as if all that music is fighting to get out through that small, half-developed frame; a grown-up muse in the body of a child. Awesome!

I meet alot of people in professional venues. Sticking arms out means a couple things, after I have a chance to chat.
"Look at me...." It is something that humble people do not do. It makes one's presence larger, bolder. The arms point back to the body, "I am here....I am impressive..." It was a Sinatra icon. He could get away with it, but truly emotive singers don't need the accentuation.
AJ is emotive, vulnerable and expressive without added flourish.
Listening for a year, I remain convinced she is phenomenal. If there are improvements, it will be in her audience. People have a natural affinity for what a truly beautiful person she is.
The more they begin to understand her genius, well, you probably know what I am going to say. She is the best there is, especially in her jazzy niche.
