    Barry Manilow is so underrated. A brilliant songwriter and arranger. This song is one of my favourites, but it's not a typical pop ballad. He has quite a few more excellent songs. I hope more people discover him.

    He meant in using Chopin in the song is a compliment. Just like a copy of a original is a compliment to the original.

    You're absolutely right about the studio version being better at the end but this is still a fantastic version. Thank goodness the reactor appreciated it the way you and me.

    I agree, these younger people need the "drop" quick and all have ADHD 🙄 further, if they haven't been in love yet, they wouldn't get this song at all. This is actually my favorite Barry Manilow song - very powerful and beautiful 🥰 and yes I prefer the studio version too.

    There are dozens of pop/rock songs rooted in classical music themes ("Whiter Shade of Pale" by Procal Harum, "A Lovers Concerto" by The Toys, just for starters) so Barry's use or riff is nothing new. Also, I believe the term you're searching for is Public Domain. There are no copyright issues here -- and the other reactor's use of the term "stealing" is incorrect at best and insulting at worst, as Barry has ALWAYS (in print on his records and in all introductions of this song in concert) given reference to the Prelude in C minor by Chopin. This is my first time at your channel and if I may make a suggestion, it would be to boost the volume of the song once you begin to play it, if you want your viewers (especially the young ones) to listen to the song once it begins playing. I am glad you chose this particular reaction to review. While I don't often agree with that reactor's assessments, I credit him with being one of the few who react to more than just one or two of Manilow's songs.

    He's not talking about copyright theft. He's talking about taking a work and copying it or working it into a song. Like Lover's Concerto is straight up Minuet in G with lyrics and additional instrumentation. Maroon 5 uses a lot from classical composers, as does Muse. Muse uses a lot of Chopin also. Some artists will take several bars and use them for their melody and then ornament it to add some originality. Most of the time. Some are straight up copying and just adding words (Minuet in G).

      If I may be a bit crude, Barrys songs resemble sex in that they slowly build and slowly build to a release and then an aftermath.

  • @laurie150
    @laurie150 3 года назад +2

    If Run DMC/Aerosmith can do it how is this different? Barry never had to steal Chopin. I believe he made an amazing song in honor of Chopin and showed the beauty of this concerto.

  • @theresaewald2405
    @theresaewald2405 2 года назад

    lol Yes, the lyrics can be interpreted as sexual, and it very well could have been deliberate when writing them. Innuendo is everything here, as it is in the deliberate building, climax, and back down again at the end. It is in fact how you imagine perfect sex to be, right?! And of course, the key word in the chorus that is repeated over and over, and even angrily and anxiously as it builds - there is almost no other way to interpret it. Barry has often said that a lot of his songs were written to feel like a musical orgasm, so there ya go.

    Dude, i am a bit surprised at your saying the lyrics are "filthy". I would have thought a connoisseur like yourself would have caught the passion in this song. It is filthy lovely as this song i feel depicts the physical art of love. This is the culmination of what happens when you found the love of your life, and marry her or him. But i wouldn't know...
    As you alluded, not unlike life it starts slow then crescendos to the climax of whatever is middle age and you slowly come back to earth with that beautiful ending. Hopefully anyways. I'm still hoping for her and getting old doing it but she is out there, albeit maybe 9000 mi away. How bout you? Got hope? Kudos to (the few of?) you who have that but that's what i get for going for flash and no substance and living life my own way. Dont settle for trying to live up to the flash, grab the magic substance and run. Awesome song from back in the day and thanks for having fun widdit. God bless y'all, and get ready.
    BTW, i was given free tickets to see Barry when i was about 24, and tho i grew up on his music i was more into rock. Being as i was probably the only 24 yr old heterosexual male there i gotta say he is a performer, and a great one as i was impressed. There were far worse rock concerts.

    Every time I think or see or even hear about Barry Manilow I just think of him doing that terrible/boring cover of “I’ll Be There” in front of MJ and him seeming so unimpressed and then Rick James does a yawning motion with his hand after the performance was over OMG!!! It’s hilarious you gotta check that out LMFAO🤣🤣🤣💯

    I've been a Barry Manilow fan for 50yrs. When he listened to other Barry Manilow songs, he does the same thing. You don't know if he likes the song or not, until almost the end.

      I agree. He reacts to a number of Manilla songs, and breaks them down after the song is done. He is one of the few that I watch because he doesn't interior during the song. And he knows what he's talking about.
