can one say, once you go blackmagic, you never go back?
😂😂😂😂
I didn't 😂😂😂
You absolutely go back lmao
this comment wins
Once you go blackmagic, you never go bagic
Everybody laughed at L-mount but now it has Panasonic, Leica, Sigma, Blackmagic, DJI as members...looking kinda hot for L-mount in the coming years. All make interesting and unique cameras I their own market segments.
Also Samyang presented first lens on L-Mount: 35-150 mm 2.8
Waving around that exposed sensor gave me the heebies
i sneezed on it once it was sick

3:13 I love those lumix S-lenses. The 18 up to 100mm primes are all the same size and almost the same weight as well. So great for gimbal/steadicam work and for when you have a mattebox in front of your camera.
Weird that you call it out for not having ND's because it's a "cinema" camera, but then say you're shooting on the FX30, which is also classified as a "cinema" camera.
I actually like the shape of the BM cameras, too. They are pretty comfortable to hold in my hands--especially as it is such a large camera(which I’m willing to accept for that beautiful 5” screen) :P
I still own a GH4, it’s awesome to see how far consumer cine cams have come
dang I loved my gh4
What did you use to add film grain to the test footage? Looks really really nice.
Great stuff.. blackmagic on its way and I have the 35mm lumix so good to hear it’s so good!.. however for run and gun do you think I need a stabilised lens instead?
Did you wrap the camera in something for that shoot in the rain?
Glad you picked up this cinema beast! Love Blackmagic!
I'm 99% sure it isn't a firmware thing with prores. It's like a thing where certain sensor variants will only do certain codecs.
Are you able to make the focusing linear with the lens like they do with the Lumix cameras?
Great video! I went with Zcam instead to avoid the downsides
Great overview of the BMCC6K. Regarding box shaped cameras, they do appear to be more professional and yes they are easier to rig in many ways. But, for a low budget, indie filmmaker like myself, having a DSLR shaped camera makes run and gun shooting easier. Once you step outside with a box shaped camera, you immediately draw attention to yourself. Until I can afford to shoot with permits and have access to studios, I'm better off shooting with DSLR shaped cameras. That being said, if BM comes out with a well priced box camera I will definitely consider it. But, I will most likely have a 2nd camera that I can shoot without drawing attention.
I see your love for colours, please get a set of Dulens cine lenses ;)
What are your thoughts on the PYXIS 6K?
If I were to get a cinema camera, I would get the Canon C300 Mk3. I know it’s around $6k used but has the closest to an Arri look,16 + stops of dynamic range and your favorite built in ND filters. Plus built in image stabilization and autofocus. I gotta get that camera.
Black magic is closest to an Arri look. I’ve worked on set with many arri cameras and sometimes black magic is used as C cam or even B cam with arri being A cam.
@@jw0w757 I like the C300 more.
with a few more people jumping into the new 6K full frame, are we..... BLACK MAGICIANS?!
I mean, Dark Magicians
Hey dude! Love your channel and personality! I really don’t see an upgrade from the Sony for image in this video. The loss of amazing AF alone would make me 💩 my jorts.
Yeah, that Lumix glass is special. I have the 24-105 F4 and the 50mm, they both look great. Nice video man, thanks for sharing !
I'll have to check out those other lenses you mentioned!
@@ZachMayfieldI don't know if there's any places renting Leica L mount lenses near you, but seeing the Leica APO lenses on this would be awesome.
Wow... The image quality and price to features ratio is really something else. I am currently in the process of swapping systems and was wondering, how do you feel this would perform in conference/corporate work vs Sony FX30/FX3?
I admit I kinda do rely on auto-focus but my goodness Blackmagic really has been having me look over, even with their previous Super 35 6K Pro.
Other than the menu system I'd much rather use an FX30/FX3 for conference/corporate work. The jump in image quality isn't worth sacrificing the usability (and the image quality jump isn't that big if you know how to grade)
honestly for conference work I'd pick the FX3 just for the usability like AF and what not. Plus battery life is way more reliable/dual card slots on the sony as well.
Thanks y’all!
Honestly I am willing to overlook everything else but the abscense of internal ProRes, I have no experience with Blackmagic Raw but years of experience with ProRes workflows that's a bummer for me!
Ever tried Panasonic (S5II)? Best of both worlds :)
Sideways Shoe! Never forget lol
hahahhahaha
I wouldn't get the battery grip it seems flimsy and makes it hard to set the camera down. With my 6k pro, I either use it totally bare bones or fully built out with rods, monitor, battery, etc and it definitely excells in the later. Not really a great camera for the in between style shooting. Still my favorite camera of all time though. Great video!
Thin v mount locked onto the smart side.
I have grips on both. If you have very short rods you can set it down. I feel like I'm the only guy that uses the grip on jobs... I get 3 hours with a swap out roughly 5 5.5. But it is heavy with cage grip handle and cine lens.. very heavy.
That memory storage Card being wet inside the Blackmagic is the biggest red flag I ever seen in a Camera period. No wonder they are all over facebook marketplace.
@7:50 you forgot to remove your a-roll behind the footage - just a head's up my dude
nah its art it was on purpose
@@ZachMayfield excuse me for not seeing the vision 🥺
Bro…. Always a biggie dubs when I see one of your videos pop up
Can I buy a Davinci Resolve license from you?
As as soon as the POD Tech Mod does the Mod for this body it will be perfect.
def stoked about that
@@ZachMayfield I know everyone wants the cube, but this camera has one of the best in camera monitors out of any camera. Same with the Pockets...no need to rig an external, A cube would require rigging external
I’m starting a coalition of every camera and video nerd who’s beyond tired of hearing the word ‘creamy’.
I wear boots like that, so I guess imma have to start film making
you're the next chris nolan
Had to see what that "Still Holy" shirt was about. Oh, yeah I forgot that was a thing. Dope fest!
Indie Tribe save lives 🖤
Why no 16:9??
After reading comments… IMO, every camera is a tool. Use it as intended. Don’t buy sneakers to wear to go mountaineering, you’ll hurt yourself. I work for a production house in Australia and we use both BMs and Arris, which we own in-house… among other brands, for our client projects. Each project’s requirements dictate which camera we use. I don’t know why people bad mouth one brand over another. Go buy the appropriate camera according to your shooting style and needs.
Make the vg900 your main camera for 30 days lol.
haha that would be awesome actually. I'm working on another video of an old sony legend right now
I learned the phrase biggie dub from this video so that's a win 💪👏
The swirly look with the open gate is nice 😲 I'm gonna have to see if my lenses do that lol I've only used open gate with an anamorphic adapter which is nice but not just with regular spherical lenses 🤔
welcome to the land of biggie dubs my friend! you should def give open gate some more tests
since braw, did black magic ever offer anything else?
the og had cinema dng
yea, sure...you dont need a monitor or EVF for the FX3, but you do need one with the large 1500 nit monitor on the BM full frame!!
Is dems some Thursday Boots??
oh yaaaaaa doggie, I'm diggin em
that sensor exposed for so long gave me anxiety that i never knew i had
i live on the edge
The constant complaints that this thing doesn't have built in NDs is so incredibly dumb to me. The fact that it's "a frickin cinema camera" doesn't change things either. Unless you somehow only ever need 2, 4, or 6 stops of ND (if the camera used an LCD vari-ND) then you're going to use external NDs at some point anyway and you don't run the risk of your external ND's getting stuck like internal ND's can.
Also look at the camera you're holding and tell me where you'd put the ND filters. In order to fit one within the mount's flange distance, you'd need to use a filter wheel or an LCD vari-ND but you'd still need someplace for these things to retract away to.
The P6K Pro was able to fit them because it has an EF mount which has a large flange distance so they could have the ND's stacked in a series. It also only used a 16:9 crop of an APS-C sized sensor so each filter didn't need to be as large as they would need to be for a full-frame open-gate sensor. The only other compact cinema camera with built-in NDs is the Canon C70 which does have mirrorless mount but it isn't full-frame either and it's mount is flush with it's huge body so it could fit a filter wheel... also it's over twice the price of a 6K FF.
Also when comparing it to the FX30 when it comes to what it would need to get it "usable", it feels like you're using shifting criteria a little. If you're gonna buy a "frickin cinema camera" then I'd assume you want to shoot a film which means you probably want to record RAW and you'll be recording audio to an external field recorder. So why does it matter that you can easily put a mic on the FX30 when you're not going to use that audio? Wouldn't you be more likely to need an external recorder for it record RAW to? In that case the 6K FF already records RAW internally so you wouldn't need anything else.
Also why is it a negative that this thing needs recording media? The FX30 also uses CFExpress cards with the difference being that it uses CFExpress Type A cards which are significantly more expensive than Type B cards. With just a quick search I found a ProGrade 240GB Type A card with a sustained write speed of 600MB/s and max reads of 900MB/s for $240. Meanwhile I can get an Angelbird 1TB Type B card with sustained writes speeds of 1300MB/s and max reads of 1785MB/s for $200. I can even make my own type B card by putting a 1TB 2230 m.2 card into a $20 enclosure and get 1TB for $100. That's 3x the performance and 4.2 times more storage for $140 less.
I love Blackmagic but I wonder who this camera is for. It’s not very versatile. I understand that it’s cheaper for a full frame but the FX3 has it beat in pretty much every regard for a bit more money. Maybe if it had internal NDs but it doesn’t even have that. Someday they’ll release the full frame cube with internal NDs that blows up the market but this camera ain’t it.
yeah this cam is goofy for sure, I just can't get over how good the image looks
honestly, don't bother with the battery. Just use it with the NPF. I tried so many things and that battery grip sucks
really? Dang I just got one super cheap but I'll keep a heads up on that
@@ZachMayfield yeaa, I have a doc rig for it and I have been shooting on the 6k pro for like ever, just put your screen brightness to 10% and roll with it. 4 batteries lasts like 8 hours, like, on and off. This body type sucks for rigging too so for proper productions I just use my Red Helium
@@ZachMayfield I love the grip. I wrote elsewhere. I'm not a blackmagic shill but I've always found the grip to be fine, give it side handle cage grip with two extra batteries, you can hot swap and put the others on charge.
For corporate work I've gone all day with one or two changes... but you have to buy blsckmagic branded npfs. They have 30 percent more capacity then other brands.
You didnt tell us that you love us and to call you when we get home :(
lol
sorry my landlord was sitting right behind the camera and he looked pissed so I had to wrap up quick!! next time tho
They probably don’t wanna pay for the apple prores license to use it in their cameras
put a fucking cap on it...
420 likes brahhhhhhhhhhh
#bringmeacube
honestly kinda crazy they still haven't made it
doooooooood, wy the hell you wave it with uncovered sensor like that?
Personally the downsides are straight away deal breakers.
I got bmc 6k g2.
Honestly. I could had chosen better. But is bmc bad buy? Yes and no. Read why...
Who its for? If you want low budget cinema style camera with 12 bit raw, perhaps buy this or go "canon eos m +magic lantern" for first try outs with raw video to know work process
What I have used it for:
- company videos, fairs, this is great with tripod to use if no rigged autofocus and gimbal (quality is great, just use 2 point light system)
- interviews, artist profiles, on location videos (circus and fire art, low light environments with samyang T1.5 lenses)
- movie concepts. I havent got yet possibility to shoot full short movie or documentary, but have done testes and its suitable for this kind of production
Challenges:
- get "hands on experience" before buying, use it couple hours and also get to know rigging
- file sizes. You need to be aware of this and how you gonna handle shootings by planning more and handling data with hard drives
- By having big files sizes, you could rethink is 10bit 422 hybrid camera enough for you (with possibility for raw video with external recorder....I would go for this option)
- usability in field
- so do calculations with file sizes and storing before buiying (check davinci site for file size data+drive space for 1h video calculation)
Pros:
- image quality (this ofc leads up into heavy demand of hard drive space, prefer SSD and M2, so spinning drives, shoot mostly in 8:1 ratio to save space)
- user interface simple (but so do have some other cameras, so this argument is often "refrained" by youtubers, but argument is bit fluffy from my experience by using other cameras)
Cons:
- interface buttons on right side are not ergonomic, they should redesign this to be more usable (top buttons fine)
- No Ibis, gyro data is not 1:1 stabilization, so know limits and its gonna crop (so pre-frame your moving shots by knowing limits of gyro/crop)
- focusing manually can be challenge (especially if you have to use eye glasses, this is my experience/challenge)
- no standard 10bit video recording modes (mov etc)
- crop in proress mode
- "ventilation holes" that are problem weather dust and plastic quality (might crack if get hit)
- no weather sealing
- no continuous autofocus which is big problem if you want to buy and use camera with low budget and light setup
- filming resolutions and crops are bid odd, like if you swtich from 6k to 4k, crop happens etc. with modes
- Size. Trust me. Im used carry canon into "field" aka nature, use camera in rain and public areas and harsh conditions, so bmc is not so easy to handle in "out of studio situations" unless you want to spend time dressing this camera with "rain coat" etc.?
- non-flip screen is issue if you want to solo shoot yourself (and no continuous autofocus adds up problem in this scenario)
Zach u r not Sony fanboy, u r a camera changer 😛 I remember u made a video on 90D flat profile video, so I connected to ur channel now after 15 days u will use fuji then leica
