  • Wheel Circle Cutter. This jig is designed to cut small wheels of 2 3/4" to 6 " diameters. Though it may cut larger diameters it is by chance and not design. The wheels are for T & J model vehicles. It can also be ported to a disc sander for smooth sanding of the wheels to remove the bandsaw marks from them.
    Updated 11 Sep 2021.
    Boys and Girls,
    I have uploaded all the files I have on my PC appertaining to this small circle cutter at this link,
    u.pcloud.link/...
    Unfortunately the files are not the best organised as I never intended to fully publish the jig. I have written a preamble (included in the above link), however, here is a fast track to it,
    u.pcloud.link/...
    Keep safe.

    Hey thank you so much for you fast response and all the info. What about just getting a set of plans for the jig? How much for that please ?

      Hi Martin, The jig is available as a SketchUp model (free of charge). Please refer to my reply to DAVID BUKER below. The version you need depends on your OS (32 or 64 bit). If you don't know SketchUp, I'm sorry, however, if you want to download it (the Make version is free) from www.sketchup.com/download/all . The 2018 Viewer is the latest free version, however, it is Internet based. All measurements can be determined using the "tape measure" tool.

      Thanks Chris... They may not be a Cecil B. Demille production, full of flaws and cliches, however, I do hope they give people ideas.

    Just what I was looking for. Thank you, but please lower the blade guard on your bandsaw, I couldn't concentrate fearing for your fingers.

      @alexkara9696  5 лет назад

      Hi Tom and thanks for the kind words and wisdom of warning. Normally I have the blade guard down unless it interferes with the job. In this case it was up predominantly for ease of taking the video. Though that is a poor excuse for such folly, I'm not female thereby being a multi-tasker (sorry ladies... but that is not an insult but rather an underhanded compliment), so I do take extra care when handling the bandsaw with the guard up while trying to formulate a spoken comentary.

    Would you supply the plans or CNC file for this jig, it looks fantastic

      Hi Greg, I only have a Sketchup (SKP) model and I can make available the PDF that I export out of Layout and feed it into CorelDRAW for passing on to the laser. I believe there is a process to convert/export Sketchup files for CNC processing, but as I don't own a CNC I found no reason to learn how. The PDF's are 600mm x 300mm (which is size of my laser bed)... Sorry but I don't know how to reduce the page size and maintain the 1:1 ratio... there must be a way so all I can suggest is a bit of WEB surfing. I have uploaded to my cloud storage here
      my.pcloud.com/publink/show?code=kZVjbY7ZCEVtBr5pCrHM7ARD6AAzm7Xs1Kq7 with all files zipped to just download one file. If you can use these then please download ASAP as I cannot guarantee their longevity if I start running out of space.
      The SketchUp models are saved in 2016 version as it has the last free version that still supported 32-bit processors. If you have a later version, it is downward compatible... AT the time of witting this, the free versions of Sketchup can be found at "www.sketchup.com/download/all" however they are 2018 (WEB based) or 2017 (Make which is PC based but 64-bit only). Hope you can make use.

    Do you have plans for this or what would charge me to make one

    • @alexkara9696
      @alexkara9696  4 года назад

      Hi Bruce, Before I lose my train of thought, here is a link to all that files makes up this jig,
      u.pcloud.link/publink/show?code=kZUlKFXZN0Xk6hA2LJXJGAVAgBbeUBw0BpGk
      I use,
      1. SketchUp (2018), though I've uploaded the model in versions 2016 and 2017.
      2. Layout (2018) as transition to CorelDraw X8.
      3. PDFs of 2D drawings in 300mm x 600mm page size... The size of my laser bed... In one I have a general measurements, however, some lengths may seem "fractional" as it was designed for laser cutting and nut ruler layout and saw cutting. My suggestion may be to start at the SU model.
      4. CorelDraw (X8) files that I used to print to the laser.
      5. Trotec print files.
      6. Mathias Wandell's gear generator program.
      As for charging, I don't expect to get rich, especially from the jig, however, I'm not a charity provider... and work on an out-of-pocket cost basis (machinery and labour free). I have made and supplied several jigs as a flat-pack, however, postage is really the killer as I don't have any discount arrangements with shipping entities. That is why I have provided all that one may need as outsourcing the laser cutting to a local service provider would cost much the same as postage as all the configuration should be available in the files (or I can advise as required).
      A while back during a conversation to supply this jig to an international party (different forum), had the audacity to reply "You expect me to pay that much for the shipping", when I told him the shipping costs from Australia, after I had already cut and packaged the jig for him (Australia Post quote). The jig finished up with a local woodie and the original requestor never heard from me again despite his follow up emails to me. Unfortunately that soured my propensity to jump to the aid of strangers without question... sorry for being so obtuse, but I'm prefer to call it as it is... no more sugar coating.
      As a last resort, I can be talked into supplying the jig (at cost), however, I do encourage people try to make themselves as the primary intention of the video was to give people ideas.
      Keep safe,
      Alex

      Hi Bruce, Here is the SketchUp link to the models (Cutter and sanding jigs). They have been saved as V2016 for compatability (2016 was the last 32bit free version... the last PC free version was 2017 but that was 64bit and not everyone runs 64 bit).

      Hi Anthony, Forgive me if I hadn't replied, I cannot apologise for being old and senile, however, if I did reply I can't remember. My RUclips notification seems to be as unreliable as me in my old age and often I don't get notification of all comments.
      Unfortunately I'm not vain enough to go through my past history to see what activity has taken place (life's too short... for browsing, not vanity, just joking).
      If I didn't, looks at my reply to Bruce Bonkowsky above and you can follow the bouncing ball from there.

    would you build the circle cutter jig and sell it? and how much if you dont mind?

    • @alexkara9696
      @alexkara9696  6 лет назад +1

      Hi Martin, I probably wouldn't mind laser cutting a circle cutting jig for you, however, I am no longer prepared to do it free of charge as I have done on several occasions in the past. Having said that I am happy to do it at cost for materials and postage and handling.Materials should cost around $7.50 (Aust)... maybe +/- $1...The big issue is going to be postage. The dimensions will be about 440mm x 270mm x 70mm... a box that size should cost around $2 to $3. From past experience, that sized package could cost around $60 (Aust).The jig would come unassembled and without hardware, however, I would include fairly comprehensive assembly instructions. I would supply the 6mm locating dowels required, however you would have to supply the imperial dowels... I have specifically imported imperial dowels from USA for my use and damned if I will sent any back and deplete my stock.This costing is based on also supplying the two types of bevelling jigs touched on at the end of the video. For these jigs you will need 1/4", 1/2", 3/4" and 5/16" dowels. Approximate lengths would be around 6" of each.If the shipping costs have not scared the bjesus out of you and you'd like to go further, post me your email address and I will PM you. Alternatively you can send it to "xelaarak@hotmail.com" and advise me here as I never use that email (and I'll have to try and find it)...Your call next.

    Hi, Mr Kara, nice vid, thanks. By the way, what kind of wood are you using for your toy wheels?

    • @alexkara9696
      @alexkara9696  7 лет назад

      Hi Phyrrus2, the wood in the video was just MDF as it was for demonstration purposes. In real life I usually use walnut for my toy wheels and maple for the rim inserts.

    • @Phyrrus2
      @Phyrrus2 7 лет назад

      Thanks for the answer. Erm... i don't really know what is MDF, I'm not english, some sort of a fibreboard?

    • @alexkara9696
      @alexkara9696  7 лет назад

      Yes it is a sort of fibreboard. Great to work with but not to good to breath it's dust. I would normally use "real" timber for wheels , however, for the video I used MDF as I buggered up quite a bit and had to re-record too many times and I had to cut new sample wood for each recording.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medium-density_fibreboard

    • @Phyrrus2
      @Phyrrus2 7 лет назад

      thank you, Mr Kara. we don't have such MDF here, I mean we have something, but that looks a lot worse, something like this
      www.stelcopal.ro/wp-content/uploads/Pal-melaminat.jpg
      , wich you can't really cut or saw nicely couse it'll fall apart. Only good for cheap furniture.
      Thanks for the vids, I watched them all, I appreciate your effort of making them :)

    Hi All, For all those comments below that have not been replied to, I sincerely apologise. It's not that I have been deliberately avoidant, however, for some reason I have not received notification of all comments to this blog. May have been my spam detector or just my negligent housekeeping.
    Again, I apologise to anyone left high and dry and any request for plans or further details should be addressed to me by PM at "alex@karapens.com" and I will endevour to answer all questions.
    Just as an FYI... The jig allows for an optional mag switch (30mm), which is only there as I had some to spare as there is an adjustable stop bolt. A clamp will work just as well. All hardware is based on 1/4" dimensions and 1/4", 6mm, 8mm (5/16"), 1/2" and 3/4" dowels. I use knurled knobs only because I bought a swag of them years ago before they became popular and thereby hard to source)... wingnuts are a good substitute.
    All SU models are supplied free, however, I will attempt to restrict availability to version 2016 (which was the last free hassle free PC version) and is upward compatible.
    Mea culpa,
    Alex.

    Hi Alex can you make me a wheel cutter jig. I'm in Victoria. If you can let me know how much

    • @alexkara9696
      @alexkara9696  5 лет назад

      Hi Anthony, I do "supply" the jig at cost... Under $10 for the MDF (cut), however, hardware required is advised but will not be provided. Also the parts are shipped in a flat pack and assembly is up to you (no allen key required). I do sting you for the postage and handling which used to be around $17, however, $27 seems to crop up in my brain... and the jiffy bag (around $2). From past people with the same deal, assembly doesn't seem to be an issue. Main downside is that the jig is designed to take 1/4" hardware as I use 1/4" bolts with my preferred knurled knobs (which seem to be hard to source lately in Victoria... can be Internet purchase... with a wait).... 1/4" wingnuts are readily available and usable but not as finger friendly.
      If you wan't to pursue this further, PM me at "alex@karapens.com" and maybe a follow up pilgrimage to Churchill (save postage :-)...).
