I've adored Tanya for decades; I just today noticed the video seems to be all in one take.
Yes. The budget was for one take. Flawless.
Her facial expressions makes clear Tanya would be a star no matter if it was music, or theater,, or writing. She’s incredible.
She’s been famous since she was a teen 🤷♂️
@@jlouis4407 Sure. I bought the Chains Changed ep in 1987. The Muses had been going a couple years before that.
Oh, hey. Tanya Donelly might be the most overlooked talent from the 90's.
She got awards for the first belly record I think it sold quite well
What a voice. Unique. Criminally underrated.
sticksman1979 criminally for sure.
Absolutely. She’s one of the most influential and talented musicians of the last 30+ years yet only has a cult following.
Why are you youtubers constantly unhappy with what other people don't have?
@@wolflair3329My guess is because we're a dying civilization. In their defense, the comments are true. She's very underrated and talented. Nothing wrong with stating truth.
to say this album kept me alive during my 1st year of university is a total understatement. I would not be here if not for Lovesongs For Underdogs.
Why wasn't this a huge hit? Looking back now, it should have been.
I was an 18 year old Metalhead with a freshly broken heart when this came out, and I wore out this entire album until the CD wouldn't play anymore.
1 of the best comments I've seen on RUclips.
I did that with the king album. I only ever saw the video for this once and didn't realize she had gone solo. I've enjoyed all her music. I really miss 90s alternative music. Not many current bands left that keep it alive. Maybe skating polly, little girl blue sounds like it could have been released in 95
My most enduring celebrity crush. What an amazing talent.
Damn. Now I have to challenge you to a duel. No. I'll just take Kim Deal Nope. Duel. I gotta have them both :)
I'll kill you all for Tanya.
That smile...damn
If we're "fight clubbing" for Ms. Donnellys affections, you're all screwed because I'm too old to fist fight anymore.
Same. Not even close w anyone else. There’s nothing better than Tonya. She’s the complete package.
absolute talent. Tanya, from Throwing Muses, to Belly, to a solo career, her song writing and music has spanned almost 4 decades and should one day be in the Rock n Roll HOF
Breeders
Don’t forget her guest vocals on Catherine Wheel’s spectacular single “Judy Staring At The Sun” in 1995. I think she and C.W.’s singer were dating, but I could be wrong. Belly and C.W. did tour together that year, with a then-unknown Jewel opening.
@@ibelieveicansoar Ohh man I feel retarded. Thats one of my favorite songs and Ive always been a Throwing Muses fan..never realized she was the guest vocals until now and Ive seen the music video and all..thanks for enlightening me..fuck
RRHOF is an embarrassing joke.
Don't forget, she also did 1 album with The Breeders before Belly and before "Cannonball." She's awesome!
So it’s been a number of years since I heard Billy Star. First time I ever looked to see who the vocalist was. I’m sure glad I did.
Tanya! This video has everything: gangsters, a dance sequence, aliens at the diner and the incomparable Tanya Donelly emoting, hollywood style in close-up.
Lovely and hilarious.
I think they are "men in black"
i was mentally hearing you read that post as "Stefon" from SNL.
That wink at the start is heart melting❤️
The 90s last great bastion for true guitar rock..
well it was only invented in the 50s really
@@concars1234 true
She is such a doll!
Belly and then Tanya Donally on her own was "my" music when i was a teen - and although so much changed since then - she is still among my most favourite music artists (right along with PJ Harvey).
Me too Tanya and PJ!
Same here but without pj
How on earth did I miss this? I'm late to the party but...better late than never.
Exactly 💯
I know there's stuff going on behind her but I can't help but keep my eyes on Tanya because she's so talented and beautiful.
Don't wanna miss a second!
She is beyond captivating.
have known this song for over 20 years. only today i saw the video for the first time. love it even more :)
I only ever saw it once back then. A clip of it was used in an ad for mtv2. All the cool music videos were moved out of mainstream play
This video is so 90s. I love it.
Mega talent. Love her. Her music got through a divorce of a twenty year marriage.
Amazingly talented musician, writer, collaborator, doula- and a cheeky sense of humour! Heehee, Tanya! Coolest chic in rock!
Yes she’s amazing and I love most of her songs❣️
Tanya is gorgeous and talented...love this video!
One of the most captivating women in music.
+lkgrave Yes, my girl-rock holy trinity is Tanya Donelly, Juliana Hatfield and Kay Hanley. Girls Rock!
+robbielex I love Kay Hanley. So glad Letters To Cleo are making music again!
I tried to look away too the things that are happening behind but she is so so so-, the joy the happiness just her deep enjoyment her appreciation for film, and then her own Talent her own involvement in artistry - There's this give-and-take so Beautiful ( Perfection that her face like a movie star again her involvement saying I love you people on screen and I use it to make my on art).
I just slipped straight back into simpler times, when music meant something and having long hair wasnt just a dream. Oft nostalgia.
I joined the Tanya fan club just as the Belly days were coming to a close. I have very fond memories of seeing this video for the first time on UK TV - It was a Saturday morning! Fantastic all round. Love the single take video format and TD's facial expressions are priceless
Such a sweet, loopy smile! I love this! :D
This is my favorite 90's song that i discovered in 2020.
The TRUTH is The LIGHT that Guides US through The DARKEST of HOURS!!!!!
one of the most lovely voice of the 90's
Played this album over and over again when I was at Uni. She has a great voice, and this was a fine follow up to her Belly stuff.
Tanya Donnelly is an absolute treasure! Love this video ❤️
Listened for many years, but the more I listen, the more I love!!!
That wink!
I always loved her singing and guitar style and she is a classy lady to boot.
_wow._
she was born for the 40's aesthetic... it's perfect on her.
How does a song this great only have 82k views???
LOVE!!! first time I've seen this video. I love everything I've seen that Tanya's done so I guess I'm not that surprised. Just Love it!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TANYA, TODAY !!!
(born on July 12 1966)
Generation X er
The drums and guitars on this song f'ing rock and Tanya can wail like Robert Plant!
classic. one of our all-time favorites.
Just discovered this song. Loved Belly. I had to download all of the albums again.
I feel ashamed that I only just discovered this song in 2020.
I just discovered it yesterday and my first memory of her is the video for
"Safari" by the Breeders. Man society changed a lot from 1990-1997. By 97 I was going to raves clubs doing substances & could've cared less about liberal college snob indie rock.
2023 for me 😅
both this video & song:
Pro & timeless
Really kant believe it's been 25 years 😭. It's a shame I'm just now seeing how good Tanya's acting is in it 😭. She coulda been in the pictures! 💗
So pretty😊...luv ya Tanya!
Amazingly expressive acting by Tanya - I wonder how many times they had to film that to get it right?!
probably once!!
ive watched this 20 times in the last few days...All i can say is........ LOVE!!!
Tanya = NATIONAL TREASURE!
I love this song
original, improvised,
Very good
Great video too.
Nice song!!!
Taped this off MTV back in the 90's and was gutted when the tape got chewed up.
And a few years later came RUclips...
Time to Necro! Lovesongs for Underdogs is a fantastic record!!
In my opinion 🤔, Tanya Donelly is the greatest American 🇺🇸 singer/songwriter of all time. ⌚ 🌹😍🎼
She is. Dylan isn't bad though.
This is a very nice video. The song is great, too. I wish that I would have seen this when it first came out. I did see her 'Feed the Tree' video, and some of her videos from her 'King' album.
Gosh. Tanya you're so lovely.
"Girls names come One at a time They are such heavenly creatures."

Oh, the 90s.

I loved her so much. And I was a 17 year old boy when this came out.
best song ever....
I love Belly, but it’s nice to hear Tanya singing something different!
She is the bomb!!
What a tune, Belly could have totally done this. Great video though, captures that 50s sc-fi vibe. 👽
"I DON'T See a Sandwich Board Sign SELLING "Uncle Sam's Cider" ANYWHERE!"! !
she had the look that gets the look!
Witty video!
Amazing vocal!
The changes of her expression are amazing! They are perfectly timed with the music changes and this looks like it's a continuous shoot, no cuts. I wonder how many takes to get it right?
She comes across as a natural born actress. Good job Tanya!
Oh my days
Love this song!
I can tell you exactly where I was when I first saw this video, over 25 years ago

She did Rhode Island proud her and Kristine both power house voice's and she is so down to earth saw her show and and my buddys like lets talk to her she she remembered him but RI every one knows someone
Tanya I miss you guys I grew up listening to you when you were with belly then on your own. I'm from Rhode island and gale is still around I wish you were I miss you
This is a very nice tune sung by a very pretty lady. She has that cute American girl next door vibe about her.
excellent clip though, a little too green screeny. Would have been great as a single take, if it could be pulled off. Move towards the light... She *is* good isn't she ?
@@matthewmckenzie7687 It's not a green screen, she was actually wheeled around the set on a rig with a camera attached
The most beautiful woman I have ever seen in my life. Wow, like a bucket of cold water to the face.
I DON'T see a Sandwich Board advertising "Uncle Sams Cider!"
*TANYA DONELLY* ⚘ *(2022)*
Totally forgot about this song. I bought the CD when it came out. 24 thumbs down.....lol...why????
1000th👍thanx for the great music
What happened to music now? I know there is a lot of red tape in the music industry-- as to what gets played on the radio, but I agree with others, she was so rarely played on the radio, few people know who she is, or the bands she has been in.
Ooof just cried 😭😢😂
Was THERE a "Movie," in Perth Australia during The War to End All Wars, PART 2, called: "Tour of Duty ?"
I remember buying and loving this CD single when it came out - I know it probably isn't but, man, that guy sitting at the table to the left at 2:36 looks like Nicolas Cage. I can find no reference to it so probably isn't. Inventive video concept!
And there was me thinking I'd seen Benedict Cumberbatch at 0:55

legend
Did this amazing person predict our future - lol
Hmm, wish I had heard this back then....
That wink@ 0:39!
So much adorbz
I'll spend the rest of my life alone because I'll compare every woman to Tanya and they will all be found wanting...c'est la vie!
Why have we never seen any films with Tanya in them? Or have we....
Like the best Zoom call you never had
Remember when she was in Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun" video?
Carcass or similar type band should've used her for backing vocals on 1 song.
That would be unique and cool!
"No Men In Black Aliens Here!"! ! !
- St. Wobblers Eye."
