Kids will never know what it was like to come across music like this accidentally on TV back then. No way to search for it and save it: it was destiny.
Yeah we had a show called No Disco here in Ireland that played indie/alt stuff at 11pm on a Thursday night and that is where I saw this and many other gems played back in the day.
Found an old diary from the 1990s yesterday and I sound like a stranger, reading my own words from 25 years ago. Found the entry where I say I've just bought this CD! Like a golden thread from now to my former self ... head spin and beautiful memories.
Your name makes me want to make a lame joke related to 90's music, but my hatred of puns is preventing me from doing so. Anyway, it's a great song from a great album.
Man I remember watching this on MTV super late on school nights and just melting into my futon bed dazed and barely awake. Those sorts of things when it came to music always left me with traces of stuff that I never forgot.
I read Kim's book. She wrote that she had to call another Kim to do that, because she couldn't do that alone... It's like a 2-kim job, u know what i mean? And when Kim accepted to do that, Kim said: "we have a deal!"
The little girl walking around looking and feeling like an alien is so haunting paired with these lyrics. A troubled girl who never felt she belonged and couldn't find her balance in the world. Blown away by every aspect of this piece of art.
@@RobertScythe just spoke to Steve Shelley..he sez the “chorus” also includes Lorette Velvette and Melissa Dunn, a couple of Memphians who were hangin’ out during the recording of the album. Share the love!
I needed this song about 20 yrs ago-when i was a little troubled girl. Kim Deal and Kim Gordan?! WTF?! where the hell have i been?- This is amazingly haunting and beautiful.
No shit! You're joking right?I'm pretty sure you can distinguish 'when' somebody needs a song from it's release date... I mean I still relate to songs produced in the 50's.. but hey, go you, champ.
I was about 14 when this album came out. I bought it on CD with an "special edition", that had an extra CD with some live songs. Perfect harmonizing by the Kims here... such a perfect spacey dreamy track
Well, the only real harmonizing is in the "chorus" which is Kim Deal double tracked. I love Kim Gordon's voice but she cannot really sing that way.
@@RobertScythe true that Kim Gordon can't vocally hold a candle to Kim deal but her sort of of spoken singing is perfect for this track. Pure genius

Love the juxtaposition of the 1950's doo wop style with the high tech alien girl trying to fit in. Brilliant. And the two Kims...goddesses.
Songs like this and Tunic (Song for Karen) where Kim is just talking rather than singing are her best work with Sonic Youth.
