It's been 20 years. Barney has not only not forgotten his buddy Gordon, he still recognizes him and he still had that beer on his mind. Plus, for all he knew, he must have believed Gordon either got stranded or killed in Xen 20 years ago. In the meantime, the planet got taken over by aliens and it probably destroyed everything he had in life.
Man got his priorities straight.
The Russian localization is not original and made not by Valve but by Buka.
GoldSourceFreeman buka has good HEV voicelines imho

Well, its the one you get now when buying Half Life 2 from Steam.
Yes, there was another localization, but then buka mde their own and buka's version was better so it became original lozalization

Actually the voice actor not even Chinese. This is the Taiwan version of voice casting, and the one of China sounds really weird.

A stickypiston
A copper rod
A redstone torch
5 rdstone dust
Two repeaters
One villager spawn egg
One minecart and rail
Fences or glass
First you are going to place the minecart. Destroy the rails from under it and either surround it with a fence or glass to prevent our client from escaping. Spawn a villager or any other mob of your choice and make sure it gets into the minecart. Now what you want to do is build the sticky piston and place the copper rod on it behind the villager. And now you want to make a redstone clock behind it. Put two repeaters next to each other, one facing north and the other facing south. You now use four redstone to connwct the repeaters. Now you connect it to the sticky piston with redstone. Quickly place and break a redstone torch to get the clock working.
If you did everything right, you will now have a villager's ass being blasted.
Barney's not being enthusiastic though, he's being heart warming. He's meeting an old friend.

I'd say it's all good but the Chinese voice line has two different version (mainland and Taiwan) and this is the Taiwan version. hopefully someday the mainland version of it could be added :)

The German one sounds the best (other than English, obviously) because the voice actor sounds the most like the English actor

Honestly surprised Half-life 2 is played in China given it's a China simulator.
China was actually pretty chill at the time, from 2002-2012 under President Hu Jintao. Censorship was very less compared to Emperor Xi's regime. Now it is more like the Chinese Combine Party..
I think the Chinese language version of HL2 is from Taiwan, not China.

@@theobserver4214 yeah indeed there is a mainland version of the voice line specially made when introduced into mainland China, and many famous voice actors are invited to make this, making the voice quality like the best back in those days:))) Also, this great commitment is very much appreciated by mainland players even until now, cuz at that time u know, video games were generally considered as not-so-good or better-not-to-touch things back in the year 2004

russian translation it is incorrect.
russian translator speaks:
я должен тебе пиво - i owe you a beer
but should:
на счет того пива, которое я тебе должен - about that beer i owed ya
even google translate does it better.
Then it would suffer the same fate as Portal 2's announcer in ru dub, since all phrases on source are tied to timers that valve set up for english vo and russian sentances being longer, this was not 100% correct translation, but we didn't have to hear sped up version or voice actor trying to fit it in a time made for "about that beer I owed ya", infact, you can see this problem in action when you come out of train station and not long after there's two guys talking about how combine will find a reason to come to their block, in russian last phrase "don't worry they'll find one" can't be tanslated other than "Не беспокойся, они найдут причину" which is way prenounced way longer and source squishes it into that time interval maikng it sound awful, so this was the best way to make game sound great 99.9%, it conveys same thought anyway

@@Shak0 I DO know that. So I modified the subtitles on my HL2 Spanish with specific orthography and good dialogue as far at the English one, putting as “Latin Sub” mod. ...I wish there's an Latin Spanish (Voices).
